On March 14, 15, and 16, 2024, the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad held their spring meeting and get-together. One of the activities was to take the Sunset Serenade excursion on Sky Railway. Departing Santa Fe at 6:05 PM, the train moves slowly toward the Galisteo Basin.
While the weather was unpredictable springlike, the riders enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and entertainment.
Before it got too dark, we caught it as it crossed Rabbit Road in south Santa Fe and moved at restricted speed over the curved trestle over Arroyo Hondo.

Awesome as always Tom. Thanks for sharing! FYI consist on this train are 07 "Wolf" locomotive, ATSF 1370 "Acoma", SFS 99 Flatcar, SFS 1158, SFS 1195, SFS 133 Flatcar, and SFS 2948.

What's the problem with that trestle?

It's old. There's nothing specifically wrong with it.

There is a 5 mph slow order on that trestle because of a kink on the west approach. There is/was also the same for the bridge in Lamy just past the road crossing for the same issue.

They aren't very popular with the railfans, but when you own the railroad and wrote Game of Thrones, you get to do that kind of thing.

@@wicky201 Yeah, I'm not a fan either. The sad thing is that the 07 locomotive and a couple of the original CNJ cars (1158 and 1195) were painted in Du Pont Imron back in 2007, and still looked great. The current paint is already starting to show weathering after only a couple years because it was rattle canned and then cleared. But, I guess they can do whatever they want....
