@@elygonzalez677 They don't really like each other, just the thought of each other. One of the main, if not the main reason, why they don't make a good couple is that they don't respect each other. Ross doesn't respect Rachel's job because he thinks that fashion is shallow and not as important as what he does, which is academics. Rachel doesn't respect Ross's job because she thinks it's boring. You don't have to like or even be interested in each other's jobs, but at least respect that it's what your partner likes and wants to have a career in. Yes they were on a break so technically Ross didn't cheat on her, but if you're going to sleep with someone 2 hours after you"break up" with someone that just shows how little you respect your relationship in the first place. Ross never listens to Rachel or gives her time to explain herslef. Incident 1. If he had just let Rachel explain that Mark was just trying to comfort her and she was not romantically interested in him instead of just hanging up, then the whole night could have been avoided. Incident number 2. When he just threw away the number from the guy at the bar that called Rachel without talking to her about it. If he wasn't happy he should've told her instead of try to control who she can and can't talk to. Incident number 3. When he saw Rachel kiss Gavin and immediately sprung into action to pick up whichever girl he could find. When Rachel came home and wanted to talk to Ross about Gavin, he didn't let her talk. He lashed out and they had an argument resulting in her moving out. He's very controlling and condescending towards Rachel. Even years later he still assumes that he was "still right about the whole Mark thing" even though Rachel rejected his advances. She recognized that she was wrong and told Mark that she would be with him for the wrong reasons. He didn't listen to Monica when she made a very obvious in saying that even if Mark wanted something from Rachel it doesn't mean he's going to get it because Rachel wouldn't do that so he should trust her. Rachel wants Ross to be single so that he could be her second option. She tells Monica she knows they're off/on again and wants him around because she assumes they'll be on again. She also tells Ross that with them, sex will never be off the table. If you want to be with someone, be with them. Don't have them around so that you can date other guys and then go back to him if it doesn't work out between you and another guy. When you create that option, it forms a thought in your head that it's not worth giving it your all with any other options because you have a back up that you'll eventually run back to. You may say that they love each other, but it's more of their minds associating love with one other. They're each other's backups so they eventually get back together because they just "love each other so much". Love is not enough to keep a relationship going. There's communication, understanding, loyalty, and respect that's needed which they don't have. What they have is infatuation and an unhealthy attachment to each other.

Also, some womem value men who are difficult to get more than the one easily available. she honestly is right to keep talking about it, because both of them would ignore it otherwise, and the simple fact is that she put him on "pause" because he was being a jerk so of course the next thing that he did was go out and have meaningless sex with another woman (so meaningless that AFAIK the show never even mentioned or showed her at all). She should have kept talking about it as long as he kept talking about getting back together with her. Of course, she's such a flattery-hound that his merely continuing to talk about getting back together with her made her happy enough to actually do it. This is exactly why relationships explode: because one side rewards the other for fucking-up, and then surprisingly the fuck-ups increase both in frequency and magnitude. She was absolutely right and it made perfect sense for her to kick him to the curb. But he refused to be kicked to the curb by her. Normally when that happens, in the long run someone ends-up in either a hospital or a morgue. The truth is that in the real world neither Ross nor Rachel would have found the other to be an acceptable mate because they BOTH are psychotic. It's really a stunning thing. Yes it's just a TV show. No, we shouldn't make too much of it. But this is just such fantasy and such fantasies are the basis for such violence. And that is extremely circular. ...all wrapped up in a tidy bow when Rachel got pregnant and didn't know who the father was yet Ross stuck by her anyway and it eventually became clear that Ross was the father... ...yet... ...they still didn't consider themselves to be together again so Ross kept on dating other women while Rachel dealt with mothering his 2nd child...while watching him date other women...and Rachel went to the absolute mountaintop of Jealousy and demanded that Ross become her partner, 24/7. And he said, "ok". Which is what he wanted all along. When HE got what he wanted all along? Then she finally got what she needed from him. Or at least what she thinks that she needs. And wants. And the show conveniently ended rather than test that hypothesis. And that is just mind-blowingly unrealistic. In the real world the show doesn't conveniently "just end". It might be 5 years, 10, 15 even 20 years. But eventually the woman realizes that she doesn't need the guy anymore, begins to remember what she went through to get there...meanwhile the guy is thinking of all the time, energy and patience that he devoted to this woman...and, surprisingly, they are right back where they started. Except now they're 20 years older. Ross and Rachel at 50 is going to be a very different thing than Ross and Rachel at 30. If they stay together that long. Realistically I see them making it 5, 10 years tops. Until she's 40, independent, and just doesn't need Ross anymore. Meanwhile Ross at 40 is an older, fatter, even more arrogant and childish version of Ross at 30. And the question then becomes just how bad it gets for them. The lesson here is that you write all that shit about someone who comes to your office in the middle of the day, acts like a self-centered ass, interferes with your work and won't leave your office...behavior that was borderline tolerable when you were a waitress in a coffee-shop but definitely intolerable when you're a buyer for a major fashion-chain? Wake the fuck up. It just makes me shudder to think of how unrealistic that part of the show was. ...plus a lot of what he went through with Rachel was just to avoid being a triple-divorcee'. Rachel was, to a large degree, Ross' personal man-certificate. Does that spell "possessive" to you? When two people get into and maintain a relationship just to avoid being single, just for status in general? That's usually a very-bad thing. Now that's a good 2 pages of complaint from me about this and I have to admit that I think that Ross and Rachel are serious poison. Rachel and Monica are not a lot better, Rachel and Joey was really an outright mockery of them both, and Gunther...the guy worked with her and could barely get a word in edgewise with her. The only one smart enough to keep his distance from her was Chandler probably because he was very familiar with the downside of relationships based on possessiveness and ego-reinforcement. At least as far as his character went...oy...anyway...this is just not a humorous topic. People die behind this shit.

But the thing we have to remember is: Rachel flirted with Ross while he was in a relationship, the same guy she chose to 'have a break with' then broke up with him for good (for right or wrong is irrelevant), got into a huff because he was still with Bonnie, another woman, despite Rachel's flirting. Rachel then happily, laughingly sabotages his relationship with said other woman, only to tell Ross she still can't forgive him for his side of their breaking up despite knowingly flirting with him and sabotaging his current relationship. He chooses her but then she finds it okay suddenly put the breaks on the same guy she was flirting with while he was in a relationship, just to give him a novel that collects her thoughts for him to what, speed read at 5 in the morning, to explain why he was entirely in the wrong for their break up and that she won't get together with him unless he fully admits to being the only one in the wrong. This all coming after Rachel put Ross into this place of realising his continuing feelings by flirting with him while he was in a relationship and sabotaging his current relationship to make him want to be with her? More fool him for chasing her like he always did because at this point in the show, Rachel was utterly repulsive. Mind you, so was Ross for kissing Rachel while he was in a relationship (Julie aside!) and putting himself into this situation, so I don't disagree with your assessment of his faults but I'd certainly see Rachel as the clear saboteur and by far and away the main cause of their toxicity in this specific part of the show.
