Frieren and her clone are summoning blackholes and throwing away plasma balls while the rest of the class is playing with mud and icicles. It's actually hilarious. That last look on the face of the clone... "Playtime is over. Time to crush you like the insect you are."
@@TheCselSee I had the same thought but then remembered that his fire tornado scorched the ground where as her hellfire incinerated an entire column of probably stone in less than a second!!!! The feats in this show are not only beautiful but insanely powerful
Frieren is a great teacher, she let her Student gain experience and took a hit for her opening. It wasnt absolutly needed to fight like that. Of course an all out battle would be dangerous for Fern.
Attrition means something like stalling and wearing down the opponent slowly over time while conserving your own strength. Usually when you are too evenly matched to finish it quickly.
I've been waiting for this ep the whole season. I really like how it uses the concept of visualization in the magic system, and Ubel is the perfect way to explain it. With her visual cutting and how she can use empathy to feel her way into using other people's spells. Plus all the characters working together to pass the test.
I missed the discussion on pacifism in the previous ep, but I was also waiting until this one. There are different nuances to the definition of pacifism, but in most cases it is against using war and conflict to solve your problems and not necessarily against all violence like self defense. And I am guessing Sense isnt against fighting the demons. From her comments on the first test she disliked forcing the candidates to fight each other and lose valuable mages with potential for something as pointless as an exam. So her test forced people to work together and she took extra precautions to give them a chance at surviving. I think she surely had the test planned before Frieren enrolled, so she probably assume she would be the final boss of the dungeon. And if the duplicates inherit some of the personality of the original, like Ubel's duplicate knowing about the golem-jar and stealing it. Sense's duplicate probably knew that with the golem-jars the easiest way to get the intruders to leave is to severely injure them, and that is what the real Sense would have done. So with this as my head-canon it explains why Sense's clone didnt just kill everyone and why all the impaling wasnt lethal.
You say 'pushed into a corner' , which for the clone , MAYBE , SLIGHTLY , but this isnt a scared frieren we see in the clone , this is the OLD frieren , Pre-Adventure , earlier episode its said 'i used to use flashier spells but himmel got mad at me' , the fact Fern's detection cant tell this is even MAGIC , is proof , this isnt just powerful magic this is likely Elvish ancient magic. so not really backed in a corner , this is how frieren actually is when shes not restricting herself , which she had done for over 1000 years at this point , using mainly basic human-magic
yeah, what we usually see is "human magic" that humans can understand and have decoded. So maybe Frieren has older elf magic more like the demon curses that is hard to comprehend and unravel. Or maybe its more like bending reality with visualization to the point it doesn't register as magic anymore? I think the flashier spells bit was more about blowing dead bodies of honorable people into little pieces though. If she didn't really know zoltrak very well at that point, she probably fought Aura with fireballs and lightning etc.
This is such a great point and I never even thought of this "Elvish ancient magic" possibility. It was always implied in the show that humans simply cannot comprehend Demon magic, so it should be the same with Elvish magic. Fern not recognizing that as an attack or a spell should be a hint that Frieren casted some kind of Elvish magic that has always been on her arsenal pre-Flamme apprenticeship.
@@mirai7233 The impact somehow reminds me of the first scene were Flamme meets Frieren. The crushed dead general looks a bit like the attack Frieren showed here. Frieren showed her recless self from the past in this fight as a clone. The real Frieren now is very focused on getting Fern ready, she doesnt focus 100% on the fight but how Fern can shine. She really holds back as a mentor and only interfere if its really necessary.
Attrition basically means overcoming adversity through hard work and endurance. A battle of attrition is a fight that will take you a long time to complete, and will cost you considerable effort to wear down your opponent.
it wasnt a gut reaction, more like a final resort, defo not a gt reaction tho, a gut reaction woul be instinctual whereas it was clear tthat she intended to do it
@@priestofthighs3013Pretty much, it seems to be some kind of "OH SHIT OH FUCK" attack, a last resort kind of. I mean, Clone was already done for. Even more important is the glaring problem that the attack has: It leaves Frieren wide open. Last she used it was with the Demon Lord, but she wasn't alone at the time.-
what clone did to Fern? No. It was deliberate. Frieren even said right after that she hasn't had to use that spell in 80 years. Basically saying the last time she was under that much pressure to let her guard down for that attack was against the Demon King.
Toriyama-sensei has been unemployed for a long time, receiving 500 yen a day from his parents, which he spends every day at a cafe reading and writing manga. I wanted more money to play, but I couldn't even ask my parents because I was unemployed and felt guilty about causing trouble to them, so I decided to apply for a contest where I could get paid to write a manga I happened to see at a cafe, which led me to start manga. It became home. An episode like that was aired on Japanese TV.
