Totally agree. Due to the increased convenience and efficiency of laundering clothes and cloth in general, the hygiene standard was raised which contributed to lower rates of infections due to contact with contaminated fibres
Lernen, the First Class mage that saw through Frieren's mana and tried to pick a fight with her, is Ehre's grandfather. In the end credits you can see her introducing her exame group to him. Ehre is the mage in Wirble's group who fought Fern in the first exam, and said fighting Fern felt like fighting her grandfather. That's some pretty high praise.
Damn, i didnt catch that, when ehre was saying it felt like fighting her grandfather, i thought it was just a throwaway line to say that fern's style was archaic. That is pretty high praise considering lernen was able to draw blood.
One of the reasons I like your channel is because of how sharp and insightful you all can be. Like realizing that Serie wasn't really egging Lernen on to fight Frieren, just stating facts that he was probably a better fighter than her and that living in a peaceful era never gave him the chance to prove it. And also noticing that Frieren was a lot like Serie before Himmel died in that she never realized how much she cared about him and the other members of her party and that she had a lot of help figuring all that out.
True in real life, takes 3 to 4 hours to do a laundry if you don't have a high quality washing machine and have to manually wash clothes with your hands. It is time consuming, tiring and very hated task most of the time so I agree with Fern here. She is practical.
I think Serie really wants one of her students to overtake her. Which is why she's frustrated with her human students who just can't live long enough to do it, and even more frustrated with Frieren who could do it but doesn't really care to.
Spoilers: In chapter 93 she did reveal she's the legendary mage of the Mythical Era, which is the same era the Goddess was known to walk among mortals, both the Goddess and Serie is still a mystery, but they might have known each other.
I saw a bunch of people being surprised with Ubel passing and those who weren't contribute it to Serie liking her psycho side. But if you think about it, Ubel deserved to pass. She killed an "untouchable" 1st class mage in her previous exam by just walking past him, she completely dominated another one (Sense) both in and out of combat, she learned a dangerous binding spell on her own by just copying it and Sense basically admitted she's on another level with her abilitiy to visualize...I'd say it's enough to impress Serie, no need to resort to "she wack so Serie likes her" explanation.
(4:12) Land's ability is an introvert dream lol, the audacity for him to lie about being there with another clone😂 Serie took one look at Ubel, saw crazy, liked it, and moved on LOL Everyone had valid reasons to pass, it made sense and built on the brief info we knew about their characters
Think its important to note that Lernen might very well have been able to kill Frieren. Serie belives he could beat her. Lernan's zoltrak also immediately smashes through all of Frieren's shields which the clone Friren wasnt able to do.
My best guess is that it was a modern Zoltraak. The old Zoltraak, the repurposed one, has a mostly white coloration and is now called "regular combat magic" both Zoltraaks from Frieren's clone, when she broke her shield, and Lernen's had a black colour to them. It's really similar to the original Zoltraak
Adding to Fernando's idea. My idea is that it was a Zoltraak compressed into an orb attack, slower than usual but dense enough to tear through ordinary defense magic like paper. It still has the tracking ability that Zoltraak has, but one thing I also noticed is that it made the lights around it fluctuate (which I think are magic items), which might mean it also absorbs mana around it, likely at the cost of being slower than a normal Zoltraak.
That battle definitely could have gone either way, but the fact that she got to see his variation of Zolteraak more than three times means that she would probably have adjusted her defensive magic to counter it had the fight gone on much longer. Honestly, those first few strikes may well have been his best chance at actually killing Frieren.
@@soumyajitmandal6028 Yes, modifying defensive magic does have drawbacks, but doing so against pretty straightforward pure magical spells like Zoltraak is something that Frieren is capable of on the fly. In later parts of the story there very well may be opportunities to see her do so against demons. Also, Frieren and Lernen were both not "really trying" yet, since we've seen what Frieren is capable of from the last few episodes.
a laundry spell for traveler in that time would be super legendary. They mostly stay outdoor too so it's really2 convinient. Also the fact that getting blood on her clothes actually almost killed her before make it more convicing.
I love how this show gave such a wonderful and intelligent reason behind all the gamer habits and video game idiosynchracies. Search the whole level before moving on in a dungeon? Cuz its fun, and who knows what you might find that could help! Doing all the little side quests, fetch quests, stubborn lady quest chains? Because how can you leave a person in need of help? And down the line, even the small things do make a big difference. Some phenomenal writing for this show. Going to miss it, and it'd be criminal to not have a season 2.
I don't know why I cried especially at the end , I guess that's the beauty of frieren the little details the chill "insignificant" moments that makes this anime ( and life ) beautiful t, I'm gonna miss this anime so much, it was such a beautiful journey and I had fun watching you too
Frieren does something amazing in being more than just an anime. It's just good fantasy fiction that really hits hard with the walk of life, and probably hits harder for those who've experienced more. It also shares a lot of the things that makes Ghibli films great, which is focusing on bringing to life realistic characters and allowing even the mundane parts of life be important, and then carrying out a good whimsical story with some good thoughtful life lessons.
Serie seems to be a tsundere battle junkie. She smiled at the line "Magic is used for killing" and Frieren's comment of "Mages who only know how to fight can be so awkward," could apply to Serie as well. Serie doesn't know how to communicate with her students.
I'm glad I got to enjoy this one with y'all. Can't wait for whatever season 2 has in store for us. Idk what I'm gonna do without my Frieren Fridays now though 😂
Wirbel actually came to the same conclusion as goblin slayer, saving the world is meaningless if nobody is left to live in it. The difference being that goblin slayer could have gone off to try and kill the demon lord but choose to protect the villages while wirbel only had the choice of saving the villages or running away, since the demon king is already dead and it seems like there is no new one yet.
Isn't Goblin Slayer to weak for that? Like in season one they showed the hero party and they were leagues above professional adventurers. The hero and her party have fantasy novel MC levels of strenght.
@@ACSMEX In part of the novels the Hero party fought monsters explicitly stated to be from the Lovecraftian mythos... Those guys are Justice League level strong, honestly they're in the wrong genre.
@@ACSMEX yes, but in the same way that goblin slayer learned to deal with champions the heros had to learn to deal with demons and grow stronger with each foe. he is weaker because he has reached the power needed to kill goblins and hobgoblins which are the ones he fights most and not because he cant grow stronger. Growing stronger comes from overcoming obstacles and goblins and hobs arent obstacles while champions are simply too rare to impact his growth much. Think of it this way: someone who only fights rats will probably never grow strong enough to go toe to toe with a troll, but someone who started with rats but now fights trolls daily will have a much easier time. If he had chosen the adventurer life he would have probably grown stronger then he is now. But the whole idea in GS is that he is an background npc that was never meant to be a hero but refuses that reality and becomes one for the people in the villages. His "saving the world is pointless if all the villages are dead" works in reverse from the villagers points of view, for them the thoughts of goblins is as terrifying as the demon king because both are death and the people who save them from that are both heros, even if one is clearly stronger then the other. So in conclusion i would say he has the capability to become strong enough to be the hero but was not chosen by the gods to walk that path. Sorry for the rant 😅
I think what Serie meant by it's disappointing is not about his lack of achievement but such a talented person who can achieve so much has so little time left.
Director got the emotion of Serie exactly right in my book. Serie loves Flamme. I still remember when she found it she died she told Frieren a story about Flamme. I have done the same thing with passed loved ones.
I feel like when the old guy said, "Truly, we are awkward," he meant it to himself and Serie. He wanted her to remember and acknowledge him, and she already has but doesn't express it. They don't know how to tell each other how they feel because they both are mages made for war.
Even at 80 years old Himmel anthem was Mobb deep SHOOK ONES II. Those demons were scared of him even with a walking stick. Only acted up when he died lol

First off sick burn by Frieren calling Serie a child, for Fren that was a great choice of a spell to clean that such a time saver, & alas this was the Season 1 last episode but like Frieren mentioned it would be great to get to go on another journey with them
The writing on this is just something else man. From beginning to end. The animation was superb, madhouse is known for amazing animation, especially in fight scenes, but they really outdid themselves with this one. The choice of music was spot on. There was at least a feet frame in every episode, amazing attention to detail. Truly the work of men of culture. The VAs were bloody incredible, the humor was amazing. One of the few animes that genuinely got me laughing when it was trying to be funny, the comedy was very well executed. It came in the appropriate quantity, and at the appropriate times, which is rare nowadays, when there's comedy it tends to be in excessive amounts, take eminence in shadow for example, yeah it's funny, but it tries to hard (personal opinion) Overall, this easily gets into my personal top 3 anime stories of 2020-2025, alongside "To your eternity" and "Oshi no ko", in no particular order
i think serie avoided a conversation with ubel because ubel has a knack for empathy. once ubel empathizes with serie herself, it would just spell all sorts of troubles.
Just a reminder Lauren has a chance of beating Frieren in a Fight, he broke her barrier three times in a row (Something her own replica had trouble doing) And Serie said its a fight he could win.
Nah, plot armor prevents that from happening. Breaking a barrier is just the first step, if Frieren fought him like she fought the Demon King he'd be dust in no time.
@@sepg5084 From what we can see, frieren alone wouldnt have been able to defeat the demon king. She needed a full team of OP fighters to beat the demon king. Also, dont underestimate non mage combatants, they can overpower mages.
@@sepg5084 Dont underestimate Lernen he made golems that can heal with holy magic, destroy walls even Denkin cant destroy and hold Zense hair attacks, and that wasnt one golem
@@tsj8726 Lernen is easily the strongest human mage for sure, and the fact he should have all his golems at disposal is nothing to scoff at, but I do feel the moment Frieren used that spell that Fern couldn't even recognize, it's probably lights out
I have a feeling the reason why Serie didn't want to hold a convo with Ubel because she knows about the fact that Ubel can use the magic of others by empathizing w/ them. Serie didn't want Ubel to empathize w/ her
I think it’s more just she didn’t need to hold a conversation, she didn’t hold one with Kanne either. A lot of the people she failed were the same way they just walked in and were told they failed. She can recognize the way people react to her mana. In most cases she senses their fear or apprehension and failed them, Ubel though is the type who likely had no fear because mana level doesn’t really matter to her as shown in the flashback of the previous test when she accidentally killed Burg. So she saw Serie and didn’t flinch so Serie passed her.
A bit of a spoiler When Serie gives away a spell or privilege, she herself forgets it and has to relearn it. This implies she has to do laundry the traditional way for now lol.
No. That was a special case because there's no way Denken could possibly learn the spell with the time remaining to him. The context of Denken's comment is that he finally understood how the privilege was ALWAYS granted, even when it should be impossible to do so. Like we see here, for the laundry spell Serie can just hand Fern a regular grimoire and Fern just learns it in the usual way. She only needs a few minutes, like she did for the x-ray spell.
I've watched 5 reacts cause this is the final episode to such a special series and NOONE hates Lernen. I think its so weird lol some dude trying to sneak Frieren for infamy seems like everyone would hate him. Anyway I'm gonna be sad no more Frieren Fridays and no more discussions with friends. I like Serie a lot. Yes, she is petty, but for people who can see more to her character than that, you can actually appreciate her a lot more. No, i'm not talking about the feet😂 someone commented and i never thought of it this way: Frieren lost Himmel, who was her friend, and Flamme, who was like a mother....Serie lost probably multiple students, who is basically losing your kid....so if she is harsh in order to create distance against others, it's not that difficult to empathize with her. This woman probably suffered a lot more than Frieren ever have.
Also, notice how Serie burned down Flamme's letter about her last wish, asking Serie to lead humanity's magic. Serie was "mad" and rejected it immediately. But then you see her building the mage association and electing first class mages
