Frieren vs. Dungeon Meshi: Who Wins? 

For me is dungeon meshi. You have to watched anime from 2000s to know lot of “hit” anime nowadays just based on the same thing that being produced decades ago. In the genre of Frieren, Mushishi is better, the anime really chill but bittersweet, it’s also linked the real world problems and explained in a beautiful way. And the value that audiences look toward anime has been shifted, before we’re all love a journey that brings tear of happiness at the end. Now they want tragic ending to feel more real. People now seeing anime as pure fiction, they don’t want to immerse with any messages the show may hint.

Frieren has a very interesting premise, but after the first quarter of the season it just becomes the same old stuff we've seen thousands of times. It's got more money and work put into it, so it looks and sounds better, for sure, but the insides are all the same sadly, and it annoys me. Dungeon Meshi is the opposite - it has a very standard and seen-too-many-times premise, and it didn't get as much budget put into it, but past the first 2-3 episodes it blooms into something phantasmagoric and really interesting! It doesn't follow the tropes as much, and it builds its characters well! So in the end, by looks - yes, Frieren wins, you're right here. But by the contents and experiences - it doesn't come close to Dungeon Meshi.

Frieren had a good first 5 episodes where it was unique, then it became just another adventure story, train, be overpowered and watch bad guys get crumpled. Dungeon meshi is way more smart despite being more cartoony, they actually aren't strong and have to think to win despite being a show about eating monsters.

Gotta watch that dub with my favorite member of the Anime Crimes Division.

I think Frieren is the pretty anime with lots of money put into it that had some real deep moments that kinda makes you think it's better but after watching dunmeshi the writing is just so much more interesting to me, it gives you bits and pieces to fill in about an actual entire world with other cultures and experiences and it's just so amazing how in depth it gets. The characters all have a shining moment and you get to learn about them like they're actual people who have lived an actual realistic life in the setting they grew up in and it's just so mind boggling. The creatures have traits that make them unique and feel like they belong there, I absolutely adore learning more about animals so I may be a bit biased about why I think dunmeshi is better but there are also just objectively obvious things that make it better. Also Senshi is the best, I will not hear of this slander get out of that cosplay and wear a nice thick beard lol

Frieren was boring AF. Dungeon was pretty funny and I looked forward to the next episode.

Honestly I just think Frieren is overrated trash, even more so than evangelion. It's so boring and uninspired but people slop it up. Dugeon meshi is unique and has ACTUAL world building and actually does something with it's themes in a really clever way. Also handles the immortality elf thing and demons a lot better.
