Frigidaire Gas Oven Valve Fail

The oven was not firing up in this three-year-old Frigidaire gas range. I troubleshot the problem to a defective bake igniter, insufficient current draw to open the gas valve. I replaced the bake igniter only to then reveal that the gas valve had failed, too. In this case, the gas valve now opens but it fails to close all the way, allowing gas to continue to flow. Again, keep in mind: this range is only three years old! I am seeing these types of premature failures with increasing frequency, particularly in lower-end appliances of all brands. If the customer had replaced the igniter himself, he would have thought "mission accomplished," oblivious to the dangerous situation he just created.
Moral of the story:
You don't know what you don't know and what you don't know CAN kill you!

Dude I don’t know why this video doesn’t have millions of views. That is so dangerous, and his education is on the subject is super important. Thanks a lot man.

So glad I found this video! I just experienced the same exact dangerous scenario. I had a repairman come out because my oven was making a roaring noise and because gas/propane equipment intimidates me. He adjusted the gas/air mix, lit it and said "all good" then left. When I returned back home later & entered my kitchen, I could smell the gas coming from from the oven. (Of course I performed the safety precautions). This is the only video I have found that shows the problem. Everything else only tells you it's a gas leak, run for your life. This has confirmed the DIY spirit, if you want something done right...

It would be useful if you/the video described how the value failed, how to fix it, how to "check your work" as the video described.

I don't know why this video didn't come up as I've searched gas oven issues. No one mentioned anything about the safety valve possibly being bad even if it had 3000 ohms of resistance or whatever it was. As with yours the gas wasn't shutting completely off on mine. I found out the same way you did, by lighting the nozzle directly. So until the igniter failed this could have been happening for who knows how long. Safety Valves can be a real hidden danger. With the gas off to the oven I lit the Safety Valve directly and it stayed lit, I tapped it with a hammer and the flame went up then down then back up so I tapped it on the front and it went out, but when I relit it the flame started again. I replaced both the igniter and the Safety Valve.

That seems like faulty equipment from Frigidaire right dare! That should never be an issue, ever! I'm glad you know better to have caught that but thats a liability on them and other makes if that problem exist with them as well.

Hello. Thank you for the informative video. I have a fridgidaire propane stove--problem is "NO BAKE." Broiler works and burners work. We replaced the ignitor and still having same problem. Do you have any suggestions? The ignitor was brand new from Amazon. It looks a little different from the original one that was in the stove but upon searching the model #, the new one we bought was a match based on the number. The old one's ceramic piece is a bit longer... that's really the only difference.

I am having the exact same issue. Did it turn out to be your gas valve? If s, where did you purchase it? I would appreciate your help. Thank you!

I've got a ge spectra that has a low flame. I've cleaned and scrubbed everything. Nothing is obstructed or blocked. It doesn't seem to get enough gas. I looked at the oven and it lights but only a few holes. Even on high. The burners are the same. Very low flame even on high. I cleaned all the cook top parts also.

good info. I own the same oven and replaced the ignitor and things were fine for a year. Now the oven does not turn on. Do you know the cause? Thank you.

Help please!!! My oven won’t bake (stovetop and broiler work), I replaced the igniter but it still won’t bake. Someone suggested it may be the valve. Any thoughts???

Hi I had a leak like that at the end of the video so I spent $200+ on a new safety valve and the new one is exactly the same. Did they sell me a bad valve or the problem could be somewhere else? I mean it seems like too much coincidence that the new in the box valve has the same failure (specially for a $200+ part) as the original valve.What else could cause a small leak on the valve? could it be the regulator? (but the broiler burner does not leak) could it be the voltage connected to the valve? How do I troubleshoot this? Thanks!

2 bad valves, could be possible. I dont know but if your gas pressure/regulator is too high that may cause it to leak.

0:46 - What gave you the indication that using a lighter on a faulty gas valve with an un determined amount of gas flowing in a small space was safe?! Did you already know from experience that there was not enough gas coming through to blow up in your face?
@badboidenis
@badboidenis Год назад
That’s just left over gas. The amount of it isn’t enough to explode.

Can anybody please explain to me how come that valve is not igniting during the normal function or how is gas not leaking through there. Obviously it is not sealed. I don't understand

The safety valve I need to replace is a Y-30128-35 for a frigidair but it is on average 50 dollars more expensive than the GE Y-30128-77 which seems to look exactly the same (except for a small mounting bracket) and has all the exact same Voltage, Amps, PSI, etc. Can I just use the cheaper one? Thank you in advance!
