JD! THE MAN! You have made me feel so much more comfortable with the idea of dropping my hair back like you as I’m thinning up top as well. Look forward seeing you continue to come into your own.
I recall a few years ago, Luke Thomas, MMA/boxing podcaster, talk about reaching out to USA Wrestling to do analysis, breakdown, help grow the sport etc and he alluded to them being very standoffish. I wish I could find the clip, but the gist was those folks were just fine with where the sport is/was and had no intention of growing it further.
Wrestling might be blue-collar in nature, but financially it isn’t. Wrestling clubs cost a lot of money, traveling for wrestling matches cost a lot of money and while the actual wrestling tournament doesn’t cost a lot of money the surrounding expenses are exponential.
The Olympic swimming thing is definitely because of the “race based” outcome. We start racing each other in elementary school, we all know what it looks like, we all know the feeling of being in one and trying to win one😂
Probably cuz wrestling fans are going over because of all the wrestlers in the UFC and bellator. That's probably the 20% as where UFC and MMA ain't coming back this way
… that’s literal bullshit. Actually no, what do you mean by former? Because I can name off a LOT of former wrestlers that actually watch wrestling/keep up with it. Some of them… are kinda famous.
Punishment for loser of the draft: they have to eat the largest burrito possible during the show while still trying to make good points in a heated debate.
Zero Marketing is why wrestling is floundering. The coaches pull their guys out of top 5 matchups & the best matches dont happen until the end of the year if even then due to what happens in the brackets. Stop ducking. Get stalling under control, market the sport. It solves itself after that
I think throws, laterals, etc need to make a comeback for less average fans to be drawn in. Or crazy moves like Spladdes - look how much attention Mendez and Hardy brought to the sports world because of it.
Limited access to wrestling on TV. ESPN will show dog contests, darts, spelling bees and other nonsense. I get one weekend of wrestling on there a year.
