Frodo's Journey Ch. 1: The Shire

The first part in an ongoing series following in the steps of Frodo Baggins. In this chapter we follow Frodo as he travels from Bag End to Buckland, using the detailed world of Lord of the Rings Online, and words taken directly from Tolkien's writings.
This is a completely revised version of the video I originally published on June 9th, 2018. The audio was re-recorded, with more direct quotations from the story, to bring it more into line with later videos. I also re-recorded the footage to compensate for the expanded writing, and altered the music. It also fixes a mistake I made at the end of the original video, when I went to the wrong house (not Crickhollow!).
September 23rd: 5 hours travelled, covering 18 miles
September 24th: 8 hours travelled, covering 28 miles
September 25th: 7.5 hours travelled, covering 27 miles (7 by wagon)

If you play the "Flying the Coop" quest line in which you explore Eriador as a chicken, you can actually speak to the fox (as well as other noteworthy animals), who tells you he saw the odd sight of three hobbits sleeping out of doors!

OMG thats so cool they included the fox at 8:37 from the book. I thought it was funny that Tolkien decided to include a fox's opinion of the hobbits in LOTR lol

The Shire in LOTRO has always been one of my favourite regions, along with the connecting Ered Luin. I began my LOTRO journey there eleven years ago. I can no longer commit much time to the game, so this is a lovely way to revisit the world by comparison with the story. Hope to see more!

This is marvelous! I had considered doing something of the same in game, just to see the detail and care LotRO put in. I always feel like wandering around the Birthday. (I am rereading the books for the umpteenth time.) Glad I stumbled onto this! Bravo!

Thank you so much for this video series and your attention to detail and the addition of audio excerpts. Just a work of art. I have been hoping for a visual geographical reading companion to follow Frodo's, Bilbo's and or other members of the the fellowship. I have just discovered your channel through this series and have not explored your channel further. Do you have a series following the path of Bilbo and the dwarves to the Lonely Mountain? I believe LOTRO actually put the lonely mountain in game though I have not yet been there myself. Anyways, superb work. Thank you to the cracks of Mount Doom and back!

Here's a HUGE 'thank you' for maiking this! I have played TLOTRO over the years, but have become a bit too busy to play lately. I considered doing exactly what you did here, but decided to see if someone else had already done it and recorded it. And here YOU did it! Awesome! Now that the game has Mordor finished, do you have plans to the whole book? Perhaps journies of the other characters?

Awesome, been looking for something like this, I've been reading the books and well english isn't my first language so I struggle to understand some of the things that Tolkien tried to describe, this gives me a better idea of the path they took. Edit: Will you make one for Bilbo's Journey? i don't know much about LOTR Online, idk if the entire journey and places are modeled so i don't know if it's possible or if you thought of recording it too

Loving this series! just wondering what sources you're using for the travel distances in miles, I'm hoping to do this walk myself in real life and want to get the distances right! yours seem legit!
