Good job man, I can relate. Had my first development job starting at $30k 9 years ago and I'm at 150k now. Self taught, no excuses, just hard work and self belief. Congrats brother, it only gets better from here 🎉🎉🎉

5 Minutes is def not too long man! Wish I could hear more about your story. I just started an MIT Intro to CS with python course a month ago - def not easy, but I'm hoping I can land something within a year. Was planning to go over CS50 too, and/or freecodecamp + odin project, but not sure if that's a lil too much lol Great video!

I know this video was a while ago but I’m in a place that I want to be self taught I’ve been very lost in finding a career and tech does interest me but school is really not the thing I thrive on and this video is so positive to see knowing that my dedication and hard work can pay off as self taught and not school

Hey man, I just wanted to say this is super inspiring to see. I’m a photographer/videographer from Dayton as well and have fairly similar background. I’ve flirted with the web development/software engineer idea in the past but have always found a reason to not pursue it or life gets in the way of setting time aside to learn. I recently decided to fully commit to trying to learn full stack web development over the next year and land a job in about a year too. I’m just tired of gig income if I’m being honest, and need some stability especially now that I’m getting older, (just turned 30). Anyway, thanks for the inspiration, it’s nice to see someone like me follow through and get into a field I’m trying to get into when I see so many peoples stories that I just can’t connect with.

Very, very impressive stuff bro! I started CS50 and got what I think was Impostor syndrome - "how the **** have I a snuck into this class". I am now working through the Odin Project and am 50% through Foundations in a week. I will be doing CS50X alongside one I hit the Javascript section. Would be interested to see you compare CS50 to FreeCodeCamp and The Odin Project.

Howdy. What are your thoughts on Leetcode/Codewars? Did you use either of those to become job ready? About how much time would you say you spent learning your first language? I've completed a months long program with portfolio, but I definitely need more JavaScript training. What the program taught was minuscule. I've been advised to do Codewars next. Seems like gatekeeping to me. Your thoughts?
@Keithcancode
@Keithcancode Год назад
My best advice is build more projects. I personally didn’t use any of those platforms to get job ready. I landed a job by taking the time to build things outside of the initial courses I took and really craft a portfolio that I could take on interviews and be able to speak to instead of just showing them projects I basically copied from a course.

@@1SquidBoy my question was out of curiosity not judgement. The story wasn't clear as he mention he had a daughter around 2016 but that doesn't mean he started studying at that point. A lot of self taught people and boot camps report 3 months to a year depending on what is being built or maintained(web, cloud, OS,etc).
@Keithcancode

I started and stopped quite a lot, if I had been focused fully that time probably gets cut in half. That and actually taking the time to craft a proper portfolio, I def would have got a job sooner
