My mother was German she passed last year at 92. My father was stationed in Germany in the 50's where he met my mother. I had the pleasure of living in Germany as a child. I loved it and one day I would love to visit again as I still have cousins there. I am hesitant because I am black and I don't have my mother to stick up for me anymore. I have never experienced racism there but we used to get a lot of looks. I love German food, the culture, Bavarian towns, and I can go on and on. My mother was 12 when WW2 started and 18 at the end. Eva is a beautiful and loving woman and I wish everyone had a little of Eva in them. May she have many more years on this Earth and remain in good health. Bless her heart.❤️

I personally understand both Germans and refugees. Poor refugees have lost their homes and their hope to their future in their own country and therefore now they’re desperately seeking a new home with a better future, which it doesn’t always come easy. Germans have also experienced much hardships by going through war and then being a divided nation for nearly half a century, which they’re still paying for that up to this very day. They also feel that their country’s being taken over by the immigrants. And I who say this used to be a stateless refugee myself.

Eh, my understanding only goes so far, especially as concerns certain regions of Germany. E.g. to me East Germans are, in many ways, just as much refugees and immigrants as are Middle Easterners. It's not like their attitudes and world views weren't shaped as well by decades of different cultural forces than those which prevailed west of the Iron Curtain. So, there's a pretty big irony about how much of the current bigotry and far-Right politics arises out of the East when it was many East Germans that were bitching not too long ago about "where's my Mercedes and house in the country," wanting it handed out as if it were an entitlement, and resenting the W. Germans of non-European ancestry who worked hard their whole lives to have those things. And then there's the Russians of Germany ancestry that came into Germany in the 90s ...many of them came to Germany as teens, not speaking a word, and as middle-aged Germans today, still don't speak fluently. That community also disproportionately votes far-Right out of resentment of immigration and refugees, irony of ironies! It's a mess right now, granted, but I'm not terribly sympathetic when it comes to German provincialism towards foreigners, especially since Germany as a whole has benefited *tremendously* from immigration and foreign workers. So if Germany should be a welcomed home to Ossies and Russlanddeutsche, as "foreign" as they are, then it should (and can) be a welcomed home to others as well. They shouldn't be able to have it both ways. But I guess that's for Germany to figure out:p

You can't generalize the whole eastern germans as a far right supporters they have suffered enough as well as other EU countries. There is always hope for humanity. It makes me sad to see alone old people in Germany , they can't afford homes most of them . It would be really nice if some people would try to help the ones in their community . At 94 years old , it must be hard to go down the stairs . I'm not German , but I know their History , they had it pretty hard , they are hard workers and most of them have just enough to live . So to see people arriving , getting free appartments , money and more when you can't afford travelling and you worked really hard every day of your life .... don't judge people right away . Try to talk to them and know them .

One of them doesn't look Syrian He can apply for his wife to join him (If he has been accepted as a refugee). I know refugees who have applied for their immediate familiy to join them and their families have been given entry visas.

What a fantastically awesome lady, I did agree with the lady in the pub what she said about the elders not speaking the language, in my. experience this is the same, He’s got on so well because he’s bothered to speak the language I like refugees they have a lot to offer but if people are accepting them in their towns which they have paid taxes for all their lives the refugees should at least try but the elders get set in their ways and expect too much from their own children talking to everyone for them, perhaps they should have a group thing like go to a college for them to learn languages and their new way of life but both should attend the locals and their newcomers so everyone can appreciate each other and work together.i hope he finds a good job and bring his wife back soon, If we invest in him and his kind it will pay off for everyone but we all have to accept and respect each other’s way of life, everyone can learn to appreciate each other, but I hope they keep the respect for the locals God Bless them all and the very best of luck to them all for the future, he’s quite inspirational and a good advocate for his people to show them how it’s done, but you need decent people like this lovely old lady also,we all have to have a little love in our hearts and a bit. You are right in all what you said.. but sometimes it is harder for elders. you find one that had great business and beautiful house and a family lost most of them and his land and his people and friends.. what they have seen in war. its not easy to mentally heal after everything. they are in a state of shock its nice that they don't have severe depression. they needed time, they will try to start-over from the bottom. they have to. I am sure they will do it all eventually. BTW I am not Syrian or a refugee I just know their language and story.
I didn't quite understand this documentary . What was it about? An old Lady? Muslims ? Refugees? German People seem very curious and honest about this guy. We should see both sides of the coin and Based on the history that involves islam and muslims, Germans are just concern about their well being. I guess he has a blurred background and a lot of questions to answer before they can trust him. How he met the old lady? What did he used to do for a living back in Siria? Etc
I think this document's point was the interaction between refugees and natives. Mutual misconceptions and their cultural differences, it touches the every day aspects of a refugee. See how he was curious about the pub and the people inside? The people inside were curious about him and his background as well.
Oh bless the Germans. Also I can understand their concerns over the refugees not integrating with the German society, it's human nature tbh. But it's only the older generation that have troubles understanding a new place, completely different from where they grew up. The next generation will be completely integrated.

its a confusing topic in the aspect that if you bring out good refugeess from the region then youre essentailly lowering the armed forces for people who are fighting for democracy and essentially providing more numbers to terrorists since you are not able to give refuge to them. it is not better to allow them to fight for their country just like european countries had to do for the sake of their future? it seems that recovery would be much more rapid if refuge wasnt given based off this, u can argue that they would be converted to isis fighters but barely any of them since they would originally seek freedoom since they are seeking asylum etc

So after applying for her first Visa we got marries because i thought she‘s coming and then got her visa refused as well as the last 4 visas we applied for. 5 visas got refused. i didnt want to leave her in Syria, i had to!!! Usually men go to fight in their land, cheers!! But i dont wanna kill anyone or being killed... Please ppl think more. We‘re also human! Thanks!!

Return to Syria to be with your wife & family. Help rebuild your country. Visit Germany as tourists with wife. This is right thing to do. Germany must FIRST take care of its citizens. Each country MUST carry its own burden. We do our best to help each other. This cannot be a DEMAND impose upon Germany !
Why don't they escape to countries closer to them, where there is no war? Because there is no "free money" and they need to work.
