Exactly! People are full of experiences and memories that made them who they are now. And I want to share those stories. I want to go away from the over dramatic/ over the top videos that we all are used to watch, but focus much more on telling the story in an engaging but honest perspective. Thank you so much! How does it feel watching with subtitles? I want to bring different cultures and languages to the channel, but I'm wondering how people feel about it

​@@epochstoriesI am fine with subtitles. It feels a lot more natural when someone speaks in the language they are comfortable with. A problem I have had subtitles is I can get too ingrained into them and not focus on what is happening in the video. You do a wonderful job in finding a balance of editing in scenes where I can just see Pedro's emotions, actions, and observe his surroundings. I liked how there were little pauses after the subtitle, I have noticed in other docs and media in which the subtitles staying on screen for too long. Compared to the documentary you had about Emmanuel, I notice a lot of improvement. Subtitles already included in the video instead of having youtube cc look a lot better. RU-vid captions can be optimized to the viewer's liking but a lot of people neglect it. Another issue I noticed in the Emmanuel doc, subtitles were moving fast thus making the subtitles seem out of sync at times. I realize that may just be some sentences in another language are much longer when translated into English or may have just been Emmanuel's way of speaking. In my experience when speaking a different language than my first language, I have a tough time expressing how I really feel. Hearing the emotions from someone's voice can just be as impactful as watching them, It is worth keeping subtitles even if they may take away a small part of the viewing experience, in my opinion.

Wow that's such an in depth reply. Thank you so much for the amazing feedback. My biggest fear about subtitles is exactly that one. That it puts people off because they can't focus on the visuals. But I'm still playing with it and I'm trying my best for it to become a joyful experience to watch. I do value other languages and I hope I can bring a lot more here. haha some people told me that too already. I hope I can develop and grow my own style of documenting stories :) Thank you for the amazing support. I usually find people through searching on social media, newspapers, local news, recommendation by others or just asking around.

From a variety of places really. For example, some people I get in contact with me, others I find through friends, others I find online. For example, I found Pedro through Instagram and then I just send a bunch of emails or messages to people. Some of them reply, and others don't. Also, everytime I go to a coffee, barber, etc, I talk with the staff about my project and I ask them if they know someone. I'm honestly not to picky with the stories. Obviously it needs to be something where I can work with and it's somehow relatable for the audience. And even though drama sells, I don't look for it. If a story is sad, is sad and if it's happy it's happy. I care a lot about being close to real. And as people, we all have something to share. I'm also currently working on a few mini series with a specific topic (very exciting). And in this case I just research a lot and try to get in contact with anything related with certain topic. I hope this helps

I think it's great that you want to share your story. However, if it's personal, I recommend to not rush it. Your story will be always there, and there's no point in rushing it if you don't feel it's the time really. You'll always be a bit nervous about it, but when the time comes, I think you'll definitely know it. It's your story after all, treat it with care. But I'm no expert, that's just an opinion

Thank you very much for your in depth comment. I'm an artist myself and I completely get your point. Pedro also told me he has been having a lot of "commission" work and he plans to make more of his own creations this year. He's just trying to find the time for it. However, the more involved I am with art, the more I see that art is the perception that people have when they experience it. We all connect with different pieces of art. So I try to not really put into boxes what is art and not. And from spending the day with Pedro, I did see the amount of passion and dedication he has towards his art. That's what I tried to portrait.

@@epochstories I understand, its just that to me art is like an ultimate playground for experimentation where you can do absolutly anything, and it can take so many different forms that its bothering me to see it being portrayed the same way over and over again. It's totally fine for people to create whatever they want to without the pressure of wanting to make good art, but if you call yourself an artist, I feel like you should live up to it. But I'll be looking forward for a more personnal work from him, and I totally support the fact that you give many people more visibility !
