Thanks for doing the video, I was there as part of the 2RTR Recce Troop 2003. Good to see some footage of the time.

I was there as a full screw with my section, we waited at the border in the desert, it was a long wait. When the time came we all line up our vehicles and crossed the anti tank ditchs and into the interior. We headed north on the opposite side of a highway, stopped a few times to set up road blocks and vehicle harbours in all round defence. Eventually we ended at the airport and dug in, at night I sat there watching the AS90s firing their shells arching into the night towards targets... I was also part of the first Gulf War as a young Lance Jack, the war was over so quickly. We were give the task to provide security to abandoned weapons and ammunition from the iraqis. It ended up being piled up high, locals were either trying to buy it or steal it from us.

I was there. I passed thru the British sector in Basra. My grandfather (British) had been to Basra in WWII.

I have similar memories of the rolling coverage. A surreal time.

I remember being at my Grandparents house and it being on all the channels, I think we all stopped and watched it was so oddly captivating.

Thank you for this video I was there at the beginning and lately I’ve been feeling that we have been forgotten that it’s a part of history that people want to forget about. That it was all for nothing and those who had made the ultimate sacrifice and those of us who came back broken mentally and physically and emotionally for what to be forgotten already I don’t want glory or medals for what we did I just want people to remembered and acknowledge us for what we went through Nothing more instead of feeling ashamed because we were there.

20 years ago today I was sat in Basra, wondering why the Americans' got a mobile Burger King while all we got were egg banjos and spam. (Again.)
