Excellent analysis - a lot of the decrease is just because the prices got so hyperinflated in 2021 when production of new ones slowed to a trickle. I prefer to think it's a "normalization"
They are not falling. The British Market because of the RHD is very small compared with all other big markets. The price of this cars is stable. The best models of Boxtrers and Caymans keep very very good second hand price.
Just bought a 2023 4.0 GTS yesterday. It was so hard finding one period. 2022's with 7500 miles are still at OG sticker. I live in California and if there is no inventory here there is no inventory anywhere else. You can count on one hand how many are in So Cal. Plus there is literally nothing in the pipeline. The good news is this is one of my favorites Porsches I've ever driven and the most fun. I've driven/ owned them all. I love the 2023 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 as a collectible for a lot of reasons.

Been considering getting my first Porsche. Was originally thinking of getting the first gen boxster (relatively affordable) but I keep noticing prices slowly coming down. There’s a ton for sale that just aren’t moving.
Spyders are really tough to find. Just bought one last week. Finding one with a manual, buckets and non-red interior was tricky! I’m wondering if the announcement that they stopped making them will keep the pricing level?

In 2018 I purchased a 2006 Boxster S. This one of the best everyday drivers on the road. You (with moderate mechanical skills and equipment) can work on it. It a blast to drive. Every twist and turn in the roadway more exciting. The drop top feature just adds to the fun.
The cost of service and repairs has spiked in the recent 2-3 years. More complex recent models had larger declines likely due to the higher cost of replacement and service of electronic control systems. This is a concern for buyers with less fun fun money to spend. The 986 becomes the value proposition because they are more likely to have been maintained with light use and simpler systems.
981 Spyder all day long. 981 S is a bargain by comparison. Have noticed the number of available good 986 S are falling, guess its as cars get older and scrapped, good for future classic car values.
I said a few years ago - it’s about production numbers , hence my money and thoughts would be with a 718 cayman / Boxster GTS in 2018 ( no opf) limited cars always boom in the longer term and anything Porsche with a turbo will always go up immaterial it’s a 4 pot etc . Watch and see
Good news considering Porsche has announced price increases for all cars to maintain a heathy profit’. I guess the used car market is now returning to the best place for the average car enthusiast.
I was on the same spot. And I chose the spyder over the gts 4.0. First,because is not my daily. So I can deal with the top of the car. Second, no opf for the spyder= better sound, third, how special spyder it is. The spyder was only made 2486 units while the 718 series even the spyder nobody know how many are made. And also the 981 had exactly the same engine as a 991 911 so more spare parts in the future and more reliable since this one didnt get any recall. So the choice was quite obvious to me. Its like choosing between and m2 and an a new 240i, not always is about the performance. And in the long term these details make a difference

Thanks for the pricing update and research. Well done. In 2018 I purchased a 2006 987 Boxster S with 38k miles on it. I had looked at many convertibles, Honda S2000’s and many versions of the Miatas. Then I found this gem. It is one of the best cars on the road. Fairly easy to work on and a blast to drive. We currently have about 70K on the odometer and will put many more miles on in the upcoming summer days.
One caveat here re the 4.0 liter models. We have to consider that those prices were unrealisticly high before they started to depreciate. Therefore the high depreciation rate for specifically 4.0 liter models is kinda biased. Its similar with luxury watches that skyrocketed until spring 2022 just to fall down like a stone and now being stable but on a high level!
Couldn’t care less. I bought mine to have fund and was always ready to take depreciation whenever I would decide to sell it. The soaring prices lead me to decide to keep it, because I am not willing under any circumstances to pay today’s ask prices. PS driving a 718 Boxster S with 17,5K miles (28K Km)
We have a Macan GTS 6 yo 20k miles. Owned from new.. Absolutely mint.. Reason we never px for a new GTS was the nearly £25k price increase,absolutely ridiculous..
The 981 is the best. Last NA flat six and much better looking and lighter than the 987.2 also having a much better interior. Get one soon, Porsche is part of the crazy climate cult and won’t be making gas powered cars in two short years. All Porsches will go up eventually imo.

I've been following the Spyder prices for a couple of months and hit the bid on one which I'll take delivery of in about a week. I don't think I timed the market perfectly, but I do see the value of Spyders settling down a little as the volume of cars available come down now that its Spring.
I’ve been tracking prices for 2-3 years and the prices are not falling. If anything the scarcity of the flat 6 models is starting to push prices up in the UK. Only time will tell what effect the next gen will have on existing generation.

Food for thought. Is it possible that 1. Porsche hype is cooling down a little bit as too many were built (67K cars in 2002 vs. 321K in 2022), and aren't as rare / exclusive anymore. Plus some buyers have moved on to other brands due to bad experience with Porsche dealerships & their games. 2. Baby boomers got it out of their system during the pandemic and have slowed down sports car purchases.
981 Spyder over the 718 4.0 GTS every time. I really like the 4.0 GTS and it’s one of the best cars Porsche makes right now but the 981 Spyder is really special. It looks better, sounds better, weighs less, and more fun to drive. It has this more raw and pure driving feel to it that got lost in with the newer 718s. It is also rarer as they produced far fewer in only one model year.
From what l see here in Australia Prices went crazy for the 718 4.0l. Spyder & gt4 pushing 300k! So naturally they will get a steeper correction. 981 market has slowed alot since the intro of the faster t4, ppl chasing g8 performance from the premium sportscar brand. With 4.0l prices at crazy lvls, and fewer 981 cars in demand, the turbo 4 has been the car to go for. Like all turbo cars they are highly tunable giving performance levels well above their price tags. The t4 is giving its buyers alot of bang for bucks. Consequently t4 prices are going up with demand being higher then the supply.
About the 986s/987s : The LHD Price is dropping because of taxes for export. It was an easy way for us (France ) to buy low priced Boxsters. There is also always a drop of the price on the raining months and a rise of this prices before summer. Today, a nice 986 3.2, start at 20 000 € ... a nice 2.5 will be between 15000 € and 20 000 € It was less than 10 000 € before covid ( and LHD were about 5000 - 7000 € ) .. So I assume this is for UK market only and it will be temporary. The Boxster is the last affordable Flat 6 . The price will probably again rise after this local "Brexit" effect .
Interesting you bought supply into it. I wanted a boxster turbo here in Australia but haven’t been able to get one at all. There are quite a few 6 cyl versions available so will prob end up there, hadn’t even considered supply issues being a problem
Thanks for the update. Your right about scarcity. The dealer in Dallas told me it was very rare for them to get a used guards red 718. I bought mine the first week it was traded in. Someone tried to buy it before me but they didn’t have the credit

There are way more spyder than gts 4.0 on used market for sale now. I do not think gts 4.0 price will drop quickly from my point of view. The price also depends on different cities/locations. When I was trying to order a gts 4.0 from Porsche beaverton in Oregon, I was told I would not have a chance to get one before Porsche stopped the ICE 718 (turn to EV) production. So how come the gts4.0 price will drop in such a market.....
You know, I've been watching your videos for a long time... there as so much numbers that it's just too hard to follow. At the end of each video, I recommend you to show a "strong sell, sell, hold, buy, and strong buy" meter for the various trim levels that you're covering. You kinda need to dumb it down for us. @@fourwheeltrader I would like to know how mileage on 718 Spyder impacts prices. I am seeing cars with 8-9000 miles asking 125K-130K this week. This is $15K-20K over MSRP from 2020/2021 . Porsche is going to stop making the Spyder but there are probably 2500 sold in the US now which is almost 3x the 981 Spyder. I see dealers and Private Party ads from $115K -$140K but on the Car Auction sites Cars wit 3-4k miles are going for 115K plus auction fee. Granted not enough sales to show a trend but the market has definitely softened

It was a fake market to begin with. My 2005 Boxster was worth $10k in 2017. Then suddenly in 2021 my old Boxster increased to over $20k. The price needs to drop significantly lower to be correct. The car has been overpriced for some time now.
What are the parts costs and maintenance costs of owning one of these cars? How about the reliability? I would not expect Toyota reliability but not as bad as an an Italian car.

I’ve never seen so few Cayman models online on Porsche’s second-hand PA French pages. Whether 981 or 982. Prices very much sustained, in part thanks to this year’s increase in CO2-based state fee for new model sales. Your narrative is very much country-dependent.
I wouldn't worry about the milage too much unless it's like 100k+. You just need to find a car that's well maintained and get a proper PPI from a certified porsche mechanic. I picked up a fully loaded 981 base for 35k a couple weeks ago. A low milage S will run you 45k+. You can find base 981's around 30-45k depending on milage. Best of luck brotha.
