No no no no why settle for the 41 mm when just a couple of weeks would have given you the perfect 36 mm version? Really makes me sad, man. I know, you know, we all know that 41 mm for time only is too much. I own the 124270 like you. Wait for the 36 mm. Sorry for being so honest, but I can sense that you agree here. Best of luck.
He did the right thing. Rolex reps are banking on him to say he’ll wait because in reality they will never deliver on their promises. 2-3 weeks turns into 2-3 months due to”demand” suddenly he’s waiting a year. Whole goal for them is to wait him out and hope he gives up.
Everyone saying they prefer a smaller watch 36mm is because you have small hands and wrist. I can only wear 40mm-41mm otherwise it looks like ladies watch on my wrist. Its not about whats betrer or price points or what you prefer. Its what looks right on each persons wrist
I have big hands and love how small watches lay on my wrist. Its all about ergonomy for me. I understand you though, like my dad, bigger hands than mine, he loves big watches 😊
I have an 8 inch wrist and I prefer smaller watches. Big watches smack into things and won't go under a cuff. My black bay 54 looks normal on my wrist.
I have a 36 datejust 1990 all gold with diamonds original and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m a big muscular guy at 6’3 250 lbs and I still love that 36 for classy occasions and it’s so easy to manage long sleeves and suits with the 36 size. My wife just got me a brand new sea dweller gold 43 mm at retail without having to wait long and I can pull off the 43mm like a normal person would look with a 36mm or 41mm. You should get a 36 later down the road for rare occasions and the 41 as a daily/casual outings
It looks really good on you man dont let the small watch company get you. I tried the 36mm but it wears to small. People who havent tried it cant really tell how it wears. I bought the 41 and I have 6.5 inch wrist and it looks and wears perfect.
I understand and respect the 36mm choice for this watch. Personally it looks too small on my wrist so 41mm is what I am aiming for and I think this is a very Peaceful watch. Minimalistic, no hype around it, great color changes of the dial, amazing matt bracelet, minimalistic clasp. It is a very classic watch and I think it can be silent and loud, which is an attribute not many watches have.
I think you did the right thing, I have both sizes in green and have a smaller wrist, but for this color of dial... it's more sporty in the 39.5mm case size. The 36mm I have - brand new, I cant seem to sell. Now if it were black or silver dial you'd may want to sway to the 36 as its a bit more dressy.
Don't ask what do you guys think, just wear what you enjoy. I was all 41 OP but when i saw the 36 i was surprised how much i liked it in person with the silver dial. My disappointment with rolex was a tad bit different story, if we talk disappointment. Purchased my first "expensive" watch, back in 2008 seamaster chrono 2225.80. Back then there weren't ton of videos on youtube, let alone watch videos/reviews/dealers, so i just enjoyed the watch. It was chunky, the bracelet didn't taper, ran +/- 2 sec a week, insanely accurate, and it was what gave my my initial experience as far as quality/feel/etc goes. Sold it in 2015 and bought a no date ceramic sub, which was double the price. When the sub arrived, i was gobsmacked. Didn't understand what costs twice the price on it, as it wasn't better built, wasn't more luxurius, didn't feel more robust, it was simply a nice watch. So the submariner went after a week. Btw i'm not a rolex hater.
I wore 36mm explorer just like you and got 41 green op in a trade from a friend and never looked back. I love the size, I think it fits perfectly for this watch. Watch is still super comfortable and lightweight.
Looks excellent on you. From what I seen, it measures at 39 mm in actuality. Love the new Explorer 40 as well. Always thought those sizes were too big but the proportionality is perfect so they wear better than expected. Keep it!!
The 41mm looks great. I wear a 41mm DJ and I love it. I’m also not a small guy so the 41 suits my wrist well. Great choice. I know many prefer the 36 but ultimately you should pick what YOU like it. That’s the fun of watches right? Something for everyone.
42 looks great! There is no right or wrong here - depends on the size of your wrist and style - there is a trend towards smaller watches these days, but that OP looks amazing in 41 too. Depends upon the lugs as well in terms of big it wears
Funny how ADs don’t have anything to sell but when this was mistake was identified all of a sudden they can get a new 36mm in a couple of weeks. Additionally, be able to immediately hand him a 41mm for their mistake, but walk into any AD and they have nothing to sell.
Unless you’re a really large individual…. OPs are meant to be 36mm. It’s the perfect size and wears much more comfy. And that’s the “look” of an OP… smaller.
I like the 41 better I tired to like the 36mm .. but it looks too small.....maybe Im too used to my sub.. but then again these are all just opinions... what YOU like better is the right answer
That worked out for good. Many times in life things that seem devastating produce good outcomes. I have a smaller wrist and my wife always picks larger watches. I’m waiting for a 41mm Datejust that she picked out. Watch looks amazing on you and I love the green dial. Super sophisticated. Great job! 😊
The 41 looks good. I’m not a fan of that size but it wears well on you. Especially since it’s a sports watch. If you had a 41mm dress watch with no base or case overhang, it’d be too much. And remember, it looks bigger when you look down on it. However, if you’re partial to 36mm I have this sneaking suspicion that you’re still going to want that. You may even start to question the negative space on the dial of the 41.
Is the bracelet a bit loose? Looks like the watch is hanging rather than sitting snugly on your wrist. Can I ask what size your wrist is? The 41 looks great to me but I could be biased as I’m on the waitlist for one! 🙏🏼
My wrist is 6.7 inch, i love how 36 mm watches look, but sometimes we have to be opened to new things. The good thing is that if i don’t like it i can sell it or exchange it for something else.
I’d say you are very lucky. Things happen for a reason and you were meant to have the 41mm. I also think the 41 looks better, 36 is too small for a man.
There is no right or wrong but for me personally the 36mm would be the better choice on my 7 inch wrist. I had a similar size choice but with the BB36 vs BB41. The proportions and size with the BB36 was perfection, the 41mm just seemed a bit disjointed. 😊
I have an OP 36 and the rehaut doesn’t have that thick of an edge to even see scratches which makes me wonder!!! I think I would have sent it in to Rolex to be serviced and have the dealer pay for the repairs. It’s surprising that he didn’t offer to do that.
I have a 16.3cm wrist and always go for 36mm or less, but dayum, that 41mm! I think it looks great, and hell, it's a fkin Rolex, ROOOOOOOOOLIIEEE anyway, i'd take it and wear it proud, kinda like the watch chose you instead of the other way situation
It doesn't look too big on your wrist tbh but if your choice is 36mm, then maybe you are the only one that should decide. My 6 inch wrist probably will crave the 36mm if I able to get it someday.
The 41 is bigger and costs more, but you feel like it is a little too big for your wrist. If that is the case, then you ended up settling for what was available, and for the price you paid, you shouldn't. The only reason I would have taken it was so that I could sell it, make a profit, and get the size of the watch that I wanted and was comfortable with.
I owned the 41 and what I didn't like is the gap between the bezel and the endlink of the bracelet. I felt it was not perfectly engineered. I saw the Tissot homage of this watch and it was just perfect. Everything aligned as it should be. I became obsessed, and I didn't see anything but this gap each time I wore the watch. I ended up trading it with a friend for something else.
The scratches and other flaws are common in Swiss watches. There is even a You Tube channel that focuses on flaws in high end watches. With Rolex it may be a manufacturing quality control problem. They produce so many watches per year some flaws on the final product will get passed. I was at an Omega AD a while back and saw a crack at 12 o'clock in the ceramic bezel on a Speedmaster. When I pointed it out to the manager he looked at the window display and did not seem that surprised. He then told me they were also having problems with the newer Tag Heurer models. He also said any watch with movement complications will need more servicing. Some ceramic watches will shatter when dropped.
That is crazy. I’m sorry this happened to you. I’m just starting my journey with my Explorers. I have one in 36mm and the other in 39mm. Both times I had no issues and I came out of the AD playing Million Dollar Baby. That’s how it should feel every single time you buy a Rolex. Even if your OP is a daily driver. I’m glad they made things right for you. I have Tudors in 41mm so I know it also looks good on my wrist and in the video yours as well. As long as you’re happy in the end I’m all for it. Thank you for sharing this experience. I will be looking at my watches with over zealous detail now 😅
41s are easier on the resale, that’s a plus and they hold more money - also it’s good to mix up your collection. It will grow on you as time goes by promise
Very disappointing experience with the 36 mm OP indeed. I had bought a 39 mm Explorer from a second hand dealer in Paris and realized later the glass wasn't an original Rolex part. Made me quite sad too Which is why I bought a Traska Commuter Woodland Green, new, and am extremely happy with the watch.
mamacoo You are so well-informed about luxury watches. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much
Is it possible the 36 mm version was a high quality fake? Hard to believe that the internal quality was that bad on a genuine Rolex. The 41 mm looks good.
it was totally legit, i checked it and the serial number and card and everything all checked out and i took it to my watchmaker and it checked out too. I
That is though about it too but i hade the little white tag too and it gave the right Number which was 126000-0005. my guess is that they broke the watch replaced the crystal and dial and they couldn’t do anything about the rehaut. Idk
I agree 2-3 is way too long a wait time for a prefect Rolex “really “. The dealer AP F’ed up on a multi thousand dollar purchase and then up sold you. Really. 41 or 36 mm personal preference but the rest of the story Really.
I was on a waitlist for a silver dial 36 op for 3 years. When I finally tried it on this past spring, it looked and felt way too small on my average-size wrist (I'm 5.9 feet slim build). So back on the waitlist I went! Now 2 months ago I was super lucky to get another shot at 41 in op from my dealer. It was perfect! Love at first sight. 41 wears perfect on an average man's wrist, trust me. The people who praise 36 inches either have very small wrists or don't know what they are talking about. Good choice mate! Wear it proudly :)
Enjoy your new watch and ignore the clown watch comments. I have a large wrist and the 36mm is not too small, but your 41 looks good on your wrist, perhaps a bit more sporty.
I've been hearing alot of quality control issues from Rolex recently. Thats unacceptable for an expensive luxury watch, everything should be perfect off the line. Thats disappointing.
The OP41 measures 39.5mm at the case and 39mm at the bezel. It is not 41mm. I think it looks perfectly fine on you. That said, if you wanted the 36 I would have waited the 2-3 weeks to get what you wanted. Now you will have years of OP41 ownership wishing you would have waited a couple of weeks to get what you wanted.
It looks fine on you. But do consider as we age, our wrist bone and flesh will shriver, so any watch size that looks fine before will be overwhelming later.
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MaMaCoo I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
