The answer isn't always just food and every horse is a little different. Of course, we arent able to share every thing we do to help, because we would have to write down the complete stories of all the horses who have come through, all our failures and successes, everything we learned to use and not to use, and when. But we did our best to summarize. Our best advice is to work with your veterinarian to make sure your horse stays on the right track.
Feel free to share your tips and stories down below ❤️

In the end they recovered due to the compassion, thoughtful healing methods and patience. The fact that you don't just throw "hay" at them shows what a science it is feeding your horses.

Thank you ❤️ it is definitely a science 😅 we spend a lot of time researching different feeds and supplements for each case and reading peer reviewed articles and case studies. But in the end, every horse is different!

I've just found your channel. I'm too old to have my own horses anymore, but I have thoroughly enjoyed watching. So informative & clearly explained. I'm sure you're of benefit to many caring for their horses. I'm off to find your past posts. Thank you for the effort & time you are putting in to help others.

Every horse, just like people have their own personality; which horse currently has the most fun loving personality??

Hmmm fun loving? Rio is definitely the goofiest since he is just a kid, but for fun loving I think that would have to be Fennec 😊 she LOVES to buck and play and get all the other horses all riled up!

How do you feel about food grade Diatomaceous earth for deworming?

To be honest, I don't know very much about it. The only time we tend to struggle with parasites is when the horses first arrive. Fecal analyses have consistently shown our horses to have very low egg counts. I'd definitely ask your vet about this 😊

Ive just found your channel after taking over the care of an emaciated horse. He has been given the OK by the vet, and we have him refeeding. He has lost a lot of muscle tone, and he is a big 18hh 4 year old Clydesdale. He is quite weak and unbalanced due to the lack of muscle and weight. He has started to go out to a small pasture every day, and he doesnt move around a lot. Hes too interested in eating. Would you recommend starting to exercise him? Hes only 3 days under my care but i have known him a few months. We have trust and he is a gentleman. I want him to get strength as soon as he can but i am scared that walking him around will be too much too soon. Would you start walking your horses soon after resuce? In hand and not on the lunge. He wont be ridden for a while yet and he is unbroken. Thank you in advance for your reply

If he has been seen and okayed by the vet it sounds like it might be good to start some hand walks. Not seeing him, it's hard to say. But some walking and grooming can do wonders for morale, building a relationship, and starting to build muscles. ☺️

Soak the feed! even the hay should be soaked. Dry feeds just don't seem to digest as easy for the horse and wet feeds are just better for them.
