Honestly, thank you so much for this video. As almost a new grad with the dream of making it into big tech, this feels so reassuring. I do feel like I am very similar in plenty of ways. Hopefully, I will be able to get on the same path you got on. Again, thank you!
As someone who had mainly a finance undergrad with a minor in data science, and now enrolled in a data science/ engineering grad program. You definitely feel like everyone is way smarter or you are way behind. And sometimes the only thing you can do is keep grinding, it definitely is hard but it's the only way.
Success is relative. To me, I think Kevin is a successful software engineer and person in general, despite his struggles. You know, he works in Google, he’s worked at Amazon- and those are pretty much the only things you can see from the outside. But when you start to dive into his lore, you really start to understand that he didn’t start out like that. He had to do chip damage like a miner in Clash Royale to build up the experience he needed to finally get to Amazon, or get to a dream company like Google. And that’s something about him I never knew, which makes it all the more admirable because it’s something I can relate to, worrying that I’ll never be able to break into big tech or tech at all nowadays. He’s like living proof that you don’t have to be a hot shot software engineer, right out of a big-name college, having done multiple internships, etc- even though that’s the stereotypical pipeline into big tech. Thanks for sharing!
Quality video, been following both of you for a few years and I really appreciate the honest and real stories, it’s motivating. Best of luck to both of you in life and your careers!
Failing like this is very humbling and develops a certain amount of grit, persistence and overall wisdom that you cannot really teach. Notice how he mentioned not being so stressed after getting laid off, I would assume the journey he had up until that point likely had made him develop a higher stress tolerance, proving that facing failures and moving forward develops strong character.
This is what i needed. I failing a little bit to in CS and its can be hard at times. but the little wins is what we need to keep going !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you
This video was super helpful to me! I’m apply for internships right now and going through the rejections and it’s tough. Thanks for the helpful advice!
Its amazing how much less stress you have when you aren't spending 8+hrs of your day at work. Thats why remote work is so great. You can be employed and have a life outside of work.
