I honestly think the advice the Sheikh gave was excellent. Her depressive feelings are sudden as she stated. Why would she need to be medicated? Getting hobbies, having less excessive free time, spending time with love ones, being busy, reading Quran and remembering Allah are great things to add into your life if you’re feeling depressed. Talk therapy as well depending on the individual can be of benefit too. Overall very comprehensive advice, May Allah bless the sheikh.
@ I’ve suffered with depression on and off from teen years until my early 20’s. I have a degree in psychology. I genuinely think his advice is amazing, and very well stated. There’s so many changes you can make to your life, especially in getting closer to Allah and getting hobbies to stop yourself from overthinking and negative thoughts. Exercising too helps so much. Medication is the last thing I’d suggest in all honesty.
With respect, some people are talking about 'clinical depression' as though that disqualifies the sufferer from needing to heed the advice of the sheikh... Depression ('clinical' of otherwise) is just how the condition of unexplained sadness is recognised in our dimension but as Muslims we understand the _spiritual_ aspects of mental illness and addiction as a manifestation of evil having been perpetrated to the victim - sorcery, the bad eye, a rogue Jinn (may Allah Protect us)... It's one and the same thing - I'm not saying don't get therapy, I'm just saying dont think that the sheikh's advice doesn't apply to you or wouldn't be beneficial to you (on the contrary!). What he said rings true: stay occupied by doing things that please Allah, pray on time and stay clean as this acts as a protective barrier from malicious intentions, try to continuously understand life from an islamic perspective - this life is just a temporary state in which our characters will be assessed to determine our final destination, insha'Allah we will meet each other in Jannah where we will never feel sad. May Allah heal our hearts and minds, as only He can. 🤲🏻 🪷
The questioner said this depression is sudden, almost random. Why would anyone suggest she get medicated? Medication is not the best solution in many cases, I think a lot of people are over medicated. The advice the sheikh suggested is great actually. She could do talk therapy I guess. I wouldn’t take medication, go google the adverse effects of anti-depression medication and SSRIs there’s people living with after effects that are irreversible.
