#3dprinting #earth #blender Challenged myself to create a 3D printed earth starting from a flat print. I underestimated this one! 3D files and instructions for my newest version availaible on printables: www.printables.com/model/4543...
A new version of this model is now available on printables. --> www.printables.com/model/454302-flat-earth I did not include the foldable version because that one is tricky and has big gaps. I think the new version looks much better. If people really want the foldable one I will consider uploading it, but with a big warning that it will not look great as to avoid lots of complaints and bad reviews.
It's very difficult to get a perfect sphere with a 3d printer usually requires post processing. But he could make it look nice and glossy with some post processing
Stop with all the lies, the earth is a TRAPEZOID billions of years ago the pacific plate collided with the north American plate and bent it into a TRAPEZOID. when we go slightly outside of the earth, say to the moon, we see it as a sphere because of the humans eyes natural roundness. PLUS we have gravity because of a slope down on the trapezoid.
Dude that's awesome, it seemed so simple at first but it's quite elaborate really. Gotta love how much personality the desing has despite being for something so "basic"
this also nicely visualizes why stuff away from the equator are bigger, to make it a nice neat rectangle, youll see you need to stretch the top and bottom as opposed to doing nothing at exactly the equator, the stretching making the landmasses look bigger
Fun fact: Every 2D map of the world is technically wrong, since because the Earth is a sphere, it’s impossible to display the surface fully flat without distorting it in some way
It’s not actually a sphere, it’s a geoid 😂 Yep, the Earth is a shape 😂 Or rather, it has such a unique shape that the name of our planet is also the shape’s name 😂
@@NavyDigital.Earth isn't a perfect sphere, it can't be I mean we have mountains but it's the easiest way to make it into a globe and it's close enough to make sense still
@@user-bt8xr5si9y, add the mass that settles at the equator because the planet rotates, so Earth is wider than if measured from the top to bottom around.
That's so nice ! I teach geographic information systems at my local university, and this video is perfect to explain why it's difficult to represent a round planet on a flat paper 😁
@@BeepBeepLettuce5 do you have a 3D printer? do you work with plastic? that outer shell is thick enough that with a small design tweak you could just glue the outer shell 'pieces' onto each other and it'd hold perfectly fine.. look at how thin plastic jigsaw balls are and yet once you assemble them its extremely hard to take em apart since it supports itself perfectly
I feel like this would be a good demonstration for school when kids are learning about maps. It can be hard to imagine the map as a round object and this is a nice way to show that
Print half at a time/one segment at a time depending on the plate size. You can use the alignment cube for quarters or even eights of the center sphere too, you can totally pull this off!
the Kingdom of GOD is coming…“Silver is for the kettle, and gold for the furnace, but The LORD is the tester of hearts- Bible” your heart is like discovered silver, dirty and not pure, when silver is purified it is melted over and over, to the point that when it’s melted and glows red hot, it is pure enough to see your own reflection in the puddle, so also does the LORD purify your heart, till HE can see HIS own reflection in it, seek the LORD and be reborn, ask The LORD to renew and restore you, repent and ask The LORD for HIS Salvation for those who seek will find and those who knock the door will be open unto them, no man is good, all are in need of salvation, Jesus died so that our sins will be wiped away and so that we could be made new, seek The Kingdom of GOD for if you would be wise you would be wise for yourself, pick up your cross and deny your flesh and follow the path of GOD, for The Kingdom of GOD is at hand, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME Amen and Amen

Lots of you have asked for the stl file for this model. I have however decided to make a new version of this model that will be better in every single way (and using magnets as some of you have suggested). This will add a lot more value as it can be a puzzle but also allows you to switch between “flat earth” to spherical earth. I will make a new video about that but will also share the link to this new model here. Thanks all.
there can't be a flat earth because the north pole wouldn't exist so that means Santa wouldn't exist and since flat earthers are fricking morons they would believe in Santa so flat earthers would probably be defeated because they understand Santa more the fricking gravity.
If this short gets dislikes, it's probably from the flat earthers 😂 Edit: Thx for the likes Edit 2: It's just a joke- Edit 3: CALM DOWN YALL IT WAS A JOKE
why is it actually so hard for flat earthers to believe that the earth is actually round? genuine question. what even made them think that in the first?😭
they like the idea that they have their third eye open so much that they lock themselves inside an echo chamber of misinformation and ignore all logical reasoning
We shouldnt have night on a round earth with there excuse for the sun it should be instant from day to night covering like a cloak in the sky as it's going over a horizen on flat earth we believe local sun so it would just be gradually geting darker and darker then lighter and lighter
@@tooru-kun4178the ice wall bigger maps the book of genisis the profit of it is to keep us caged and kept away from that stuff keep us locked in our little cell slowly roting away
@@infebrisdoesn't work on round earth a horizen would make the night come in like a cloak hold a flash light over a table then move it over the edge it would be instantly blocked not gradually rudceing unlike flat earthers who believe in a local sun where it moves around so it would gradually get darker and darker
I don't know if anyone else has commented about this, but the fact that you included New Zealand on the globe is just as impressive as the globe itself that you made as many maps and globes exclude NZ.
@@Clara.V NZ is very small, so a lot of people just forget. It's only recently had a cultural impact on the world so I'm glad to see representation for my home!
Already awesome, but it would be even cooler if you had multiple layers which could each be folded to make all the different layers of the earth. i.e. inner core (sphere), outer core (half spheres), mantle (folded sphere), and crust (folded sphere).
Hi Print Challenge, Very creative and cool idea! I like it! I've been getting into 3D printing myself and seeing this 2D object roll into 3D gives me a lot of ideas, great work!
I had an atlas with a paper cut out that did this. It had that shape attached to strings on a pull tab, so when you pulled it, it formed the hemisphere.
Should not have glued it down, this is a perfect demonstration of how countries are distorted on maps, it would have been great to see that up against a Mercator map so that you can tell why things have to be distorted to put a globe on a flat piece of paper.
