While this war was referred to as "two bald men fighting over a comb" it has to be remembered the Falklands were seized by a totalitarian military dictatorship that murdered and tortured their own people, and the people on that island were British. In a sense the war itself was one of the largest rescue operations in the world.

Not to mention the fact that when the Argentinians took over the Falklands, their Soldiers trashed the place. I recall reading that the Argentinian Soldiers had pillaged buildings, defecated on the floors etc.. and in general, behaved like animals during their occupation.

@@tuff9486 There's numerous accounts from the islanders themselves about their stuff being seized and the aforementioned behavior of the troops, I am pretty sure the government did request that its soldiers treat the Islanders with respect, but quite a lot of the time, this was overstepped, most notably by Major Patricio Dowling who would often resort to Violence.

@tuff9486 the defecation within public buildings is true and port Stanley looked like A Rubbish dump. @@IanFromSmoshReal Hi I am a former military man, I had veteran teachers from the Malvinas war who were officers there: 1. The "Rosario Operation" was based on regaining control of the Islands to negotiate their sovereignty (as had been happening since 1833). This Operation consisted of taking the islands without causing civilian or military casualties (something crazy, going to war without killing) but that was fulfilled perfectly, in fact we had one casualty on our side "Captain Pedro Giacchino" who was the first casualty of the conflict and some wounded. 2. It is true that we had a dictatorial government, but it was supported by the United States and NATO to fight the subversion of communism (which we had already been fighting in the previous democratic government with a constitutional decree and the "Operation Independence" that established the annihilation of subversive groups). 3. In our preamble to the National Constitution (you can look it up on Google) it says in brief terms that any person who steps on or inhabits Argentine soil must be considered Argentine, therefore, the Kelpers are Argentine and Commander Busser was very clear in saying that any person who harms the physical and material integrity of the Kelpers will receive the "maximum penalty" because they would be harming other Argentines (they are on Argentine soil, they are considered Argentine).

Not a lot of actual footage of the War itself and from what the veterans have said it was awful, muddy, wet (Very) and cold with trenches. Honestly the naval stuff sounds worse, constant bombing and unnecessary delays causing horrible situations like the ship at 04:57 (People having to leave their comrades and then almost killing themselves and others shut in a corridor with fire coming down which stays with them forever, horrible.).

you can find many videos and interviews by the argentine reporter nicolas kansanzev (although unfortunately his lack of neutrality in the reports is noticeable) he has a lot of interesting information and got to interview the argentine commandos after shooting down harriers with blowpipes also the delay of the bombs It was done mainly for the safety of the Argentine pilots where, thanks to the engineers, they had more security in the attacks since one second less could cause friendly casualties between pilots. This was said by themselves.

Actually it wasn't bad maintenance, it was because the Argie pilots weren't properly trained and kept releasing the bombs at too low an altitude for their fuses to arm. It really is amazing how must nastier the war would have been for the Brits if the Argies had just been a little less incompetent.
@fhlostonparaphrase
@fhlostonparaphrase 2 года назад
@@kvant13 Actually, they were brave pilots with skills, but in order to avoid anti-air and the fact that the topography of the San Carlos area forced them to go in very low, which meant that the bombs didn't have enough time to arm after release. Lessons were learned though, to HMS Coventry and Galahads chagrin (though both of those incidents was partly due to British errors). But sure, the Argie pilot could have pulled up before releasing, but who knows how many more planes and pilots more they would have lost then?
@unpibeargentino7085

@@kvant13 the argies they were good at flying, what happened was that the combination of low-altitude flight and slowing down the fuses to the maximum in a homemade way caused many failures in their activation, this was said by the Argentine pilots themselves and the English veterans
@unpibeargentino7085
@unpibeargentino7085 2 года назад
@@kvant13 I would also like to add something, which is that although there was an obvious difference between the conscript soldiers on land, in my opinion the result (not of the war, but of the fighting) would have been more horrible if the Argentine logistics had been better, for example, they had dozens of 155mm guns in argentina and only 2 or 3 were taken to war, many garments did not arrive and supplies were horribly managed

Paul Cardin's book 'return to bomb alley' shows how UK govt under thatcher gave many signs to Argentina that UK didn't care Abt Falklands, wouldn't risk war over Falklands and had many severe military cuts on top of this only to turn on a dime when Argentina acted on these(to them) encouraging signals. The whole thing was goaded on and happened due to British diplomatic action. It could've been avoided totally Argentina didn't attack out of nowhere with no aide or encouragement from Brit side. - it's eerily similar to how Saddam was given the go ahead diplomatically by the US to invade Kuwait then suddenly "this aggression will not stand" - Bush snr

nah, the Argentines (civilian population) had confidence because of a dictatorship that used this war as a political strategy (the same with thatcher who took advantage of the conflict) and the censorship and editions in the news giving falsehoods, the truth is that for both sides in combat nothing seemed to go anywhere since for example the royal navy had less than 3 or 2 intact ships at the end of the war, the most important ship that carried the necessary transport for the troops was sunk by Argentine pilots which forced the infantry to walk, for the Argentine navy the sinking of the ARA general belgrano constituted a great threat to its fleet and aircraft carriers causing them to withdraw and greatly reducing the potential for attacks along with horrible logistics for the conscripts and soldiers on the ground
