arthas is to warcraft what anakin is to star wars. not matter how much lore and characters they add, there forever will be the main pillar supporting their respective franchises, even compared to anduin and luke. I would pledge my soul to the lich king for an Arthas videogame trilogy, reliving his three warcraft III campaigns, made in the style of ryse: son of rome. it would be epic beyond measure.
Oh wow… now that would be a game I would play…. I’ll take it a step further though: In the beginning it starts out as Ryse with combat styles and fighting mechanisms, but as it progresses it becomes more like the latest God of War, especially once he obtains Frostmourne and all of his Powers.
BROOOOOO THAT WOULD BE SOOOO COOL!!!! Or even better, being able to play as the Legend that is Arthas Menethil. And playing his ENTIRE story line, in a Ryse: Son of Rome way.
He was the purest of heart.... ... A prince that wanted happiness for his homeland.... ... Instead of saving them, he slaughtered them... ... He became a King of Lordaeron.... .... Then.... A King of the Undead..... .... He May be evil..... ... But he is my One.... .... TRUE..... ... *KING!!*
He was actually Never a Good King and his heart was quite Literally Canonically Corrupted by Ner’Zhul when Arthas was a New Born Baby. . In Canon Lore, Arthas never had a Choice and he never had a Chance. He was destined before he was even Born to Always be Ner’Zhul’s champion and to Always destroy everything. . There was no possibility of Redeeming Arthas even before he was Conceived, let alone as a Baby or a Child or a Grown Man. By the time he was 5 years old in Canon Lore, he was already the Mindless Puppet of Ner’Zhul’s Whispers. There is no Redemption possible for Arthas.
@@desercitus Nothing Arthas or anyone else could do. The scourge would have taken Lordaeron either way. Arthas was faced with two options: 1. Use the priviledge as a noble to flee to the west saving himself and his closest family and friends. 2. Do everything he can to save his homeland even if it means dying with it. He chose the right one.
@@jesusmendax6815 yes, everything would be different, if his love Jaina and one of the best friends Uther, didnt left him and stand against scourge alone ...He wouldnt have to use Frostmourne as the only option to beat Mal ganis if they went all together beat scourge down.
He works so well as a villain because we got to watch the situations that caused his descent into madness/evil. Plus most of the decisions he made within those circumstances are easily understandable and hard to disagree with. Purging Stratholme was such a pivotal moment in his character arc, and I remember first playing through Warcraft 3 and agreeing with his decision, immoral as it may have been. His perception of Jaina and Uther betraying/judging him for his decision is truly the moment that changed him and drove him to chase vengeance and power over light and morality.
Also, because he was one of the smartest villains ever existed, he was trying to control the players and make them do his will. If he succeeded, the players easily could've been the strongest army any ingame npc can have, let alone villain!
Man. If this music video/audio book (calling it that since it tells a grand story) inspires my author's imagination and drive. I may subscribe, BTW my first book that's 4-5 yrs in the making is ironically similar to this in a way...
It makes me so sad... Arthas' story is so painful. Killing his father, killing Uther... consumed by darkness. Losing everything. Facing his father at the moment of his death...and seeing upcoming darkness. At the moment it seems Arthas found himself or at least part of it in Anduin and Uther is feeling it somehow. I wish some sort of... redemption for him in some way. He wasn't himself... lost son, as we feel sometimes... sorry for dramatic comment :D
Arthas did nothing wrong. Uther is the villain of the story. He should have aided the purging of Stratholme and protected and mentored the young prince instead of betraying him. Betrayed him in life, and in death.
Arthas is last hero of Azeroth he want protect kingdom and go to the north kill demon lord Malganish and get Frostmurn yust to protect his kingdom. Long life to Arthas !
World of Warcraft story was bad but bro Warcraft III story was absolutely beutiful. I would love to be Arthas yet again. My Hero, MY KING!! Long live Arthas our true and only KING!
To be honest I don't actually see Arthas as much of a hero. He was a good guy because he was raised to be one. But it really didn't take much to change him. After the first real attacks of the scourge, Arthas very quickly loses sight of his priorities to Uther, Jaina, his father, his order, and his people, and is immediately consumed with the need for revenge, despite all the warnings he is given. Even with Frostmourne taken out of the picture, Arthas's corruption was well on its way. That said, this makes him more interesting to me, not less. He's someone who was raised to be believed by everyone including himself that he was noble or good, but put under pressure, the true man is revealed.
Arthas, his path showed us that the path to hell is paved with the best of intentions. Everything he did was for the good and well being of his people. Going further and further from the light for them until he could no longer see it.
@@edhu9 Not even in the slightest. Arthas truly had the best of intentions, even purging the city, it was to prevent the spread from becoming worse. Then he fell harder after taking up Frostmourne. Anakin fell to save 1 person because he thought she was dying, spurred on by denials at things he believed he deserved. In short, Arthas' tale is of how duty and righteousness can lead to one falling from grace if the consequences of failure are high enough. Anakin's is a tale of how pride and love can bring about the same fall.
@@Grigeral You’re fighting over two characters that were literally written after Lucifer. Lucifer was supposed to be the Greatest of all God’s Creations, the Perfect Angel of Heaven; Just like how Arthas was called the Last Great Hero of Azeroth, the Perfect King of Lordearon. Lucifer believed he was Better than all else because of the praise even God himself had given to him in Heaven, and thus believed he was meant to become the One True God, and that All Power was to belong to him; Just like how Anakin was told he was the Chosen One, He who was meant to bring Balance to the Force, and it drove him to believing he was meant to be given All Power in the Galaxy, that he alone was the Strongest Force User. . Lucifer was Cast out of Heaven for his treasonous attempt at rebelling against god, ransacking Heaven before being Cast out and banished to Hell to become its Ruler. He desired Power over All and thus he was given power over All the Dead. Arthas fell from Grace because the only thing he cared about was saving his people, to the point that he doomed them all and killed them himself so that he could raise them as Undead. Anakin, in his mind, was already cast out of the Jedi order when they denied him the position of Jedi Master, and so, he turned to Evil in order to obtain the Power he believed he deserved.
@@jamiebrown1991 hate to break it to you, but Lucifer was not the first mythological creature to rebel against his father and/or deity. Religions were doing it tens of thousands of years before Christianity even became a conception. Set, Loki, Hades are 3 which immediately come to mind, although the entire Olympian pantheon ousted the Titans in a rebellion. So no... They weren't modeled after Lucifer at all. It's a trope which has been used for literally tens of thousands of years.
@@Grigeral you did not. Please tell me you did not!! You realize Norse mythology has been traced back to its origins in the 9th century AD, right???? 900 years AFTER the supposed time of Jesus? You did not seriously just try and say one of the newest forms of “Ancient” lore was older than Abrahamic religions that have been shown concrete evidence to have been started in at least 3,500 BCE? Before that, only Ancient Native stories are verifiable, like the Hopi of Arizona and the Black Africans of the Nile River.
This is magic, bro, because it seems you looked for every song that could tell every chapter of Warcraft III and that's a hard work. WE appreciate that . Keep like that, plz.
It is indeed. Though personally the one that gives me chills to this day more than any other is the "Succeeding you... Father..." line. His storyline was handled perfectly, one reason I'll be pissed if they throw a redemption arc at him.

I am so glad to know that there is still someone who dedicate his/her time to create Warcraft-based content in RU-vid (video, music, etc). And finding one with a very high quality such as this music is delight! Thank you very much. ((reading the comment section, I am glad to know there are still many who remember the awe, dread, and disbelief when playing Warcraft 3. I pity the new generation who will not have such an experience))
Arthas' story is an interesting one, symbolically. For generations humans and orcs fought one another as mortal enemies. Then Arthas heard the call of the Lich King, Ner'Zhul, who, as it turned out, was an undead orc. When Arthas picks up the Lich King's helmet and wears it, making himself one with the Lich King, he joins humans and orcs together in undeath. The people who could not make peace in life would be at peace in death.
He was willing to commit the greatest sacrifices for what he thought was right, in order to save what remained of his people. Driven by love for his people, and then consumed by vengeance, leading to the loss of his soul and will. His story in WC3 and until his fall at Icecrown remains one of my favourite character archs and stories. I still think he deserves a chance for retribution. Thanks for making this!
Its cool to see my fanart of Arthas at 29:00 when I was noob in the art world. I dont even have this image anywhere :D Very cool Mix, very nicely constructed with all the voices
I agree. Despite all the similarities between Arthas and Vader, there is one main difference between them: Vader/Anakin redeemed himself in the end, Arthas did not (I have no idea where Shadowland story will bring us. I considered Arthas story ended in WotLK) How can it happen? Anakin was very lucky, he has Luke. His pure, kind-hearted son who, despite never knowing him personally, still believes there is still goodness in him. Padme believed too, but she failed bringing Anakin back (in Mustafar), because Anakin believed that Padme betrayed him. It was similar with Arthas. Jaina failed in bringing him back since she left him when he need her the most (Stratholme). Luke was different. He only knows Vader at the height of his infamous reputation. He did not have prior history with Anakin. Yet he still believed in his father. And that is why he managed to bring Anakin back in the end. Arthas did not have such person. By the time of WotLK, all people of Azeroth wanted to end him. Even Jaina gave up. In my headcanon, I thought his soul was doomed for eternity, a tragedy at its finest (T_T)
Old blizzard was so good at telling a story that even today master pieces like this exist inspired by their actions. I wish blizzard was still like that today.
Can we get a From Hero to Villain Arthas part 2 please, this was an amazing collection of songs that go from "good/hero" to "evil/villain", this is my favorite of all your others make part 2 arthas plz !!
the first video i saw.. was about anduin and i went totally crazy, i was commenting there the best, i was just shock and now i am watching his all movies and i can tell .. get beer guys this is long traveling
"Arthas. The last hero of azeroth. You give me a greater gift than you know, Friend." I am not entirely sure who says that but damn those words have some power in them.
Those are the words of Uther the Lightbringer, one of the First Paladins to ever Exist in Lordearon, part of the Council of Five and the Order of the Silver Hand. He was the Man who trained Arthas to become a Paladin. And he was the one who Arthas slaughtered and raised as a Corpse of the Damned simply because Uther refused to hand over the Urn that contained the Ashes of Arthas’ father.
The last part.. really couldn't have ended it more perfectly. It covers what we know about Arthas and his soul without extrapolating. And the track is perfection.
Light, give me one final blessing, give me the strength…to shatter these bonds…” It is said that is why the Light could not protect Tirion at the Broken Shore. He made a pact with the Light that day for a final Miracle. The Light did not abandon him, it even protected him from Undeath. But, it did honor its Last Blessing for Tirion Fordring. Tirion didn’t sacrifice at the broken shore, he sacrificed himself at Icecrown.
Arthas. Someone who is purely devoted to the tenants of the light while upholding the righteous virtues. Going where darkness is thickest to fight evil. He endures the torment of his foes, constantly reaching for his hammer to smash them all down, underneath his feet! Fierce in his gaze, prudent with his words, the strong arm of the holy alliance! Prince Arthas!~ The righteous paladin!~
No idea how many times I've listened to this now! Listening to this at work, at the gym, it's massively tempting me to get back into painting fan art of WOW. You're very talented putting this together. I love the storyline told through music with the quotes. Keeping my fingers crossed for more music timelines from you.
In many ways, Arthas is Anakin done right. 1:15:34 Even in the darkest of places, there is still a hope for redemption. 1:30:52 Even if that hope is only clear long after the danger and the darkness is past. In the end, we are all either slaves to the darkness or to the light. What will you choose? And will you always choose it again and again and again, even if you don't want to choose it? Will you choose it again after choosing the other? Will you stay with the one you love or betray it for the other?
Currently listening to a few chapters of Christie Golden's Arthas: Rise of the Lich King book then playing this when i get tired. Wonderful nostalgia for the time i played WOW 2008-9 just as WOTLK was released. Took over my life for a year. All these years later and Azeroth still feels like a place where I actually lived and worked.
Arthas story arc is just my favorite thing in the WarCraft franchise, nothing tops it. That mix got me through so many emotions... a different way to appreciate that great story, you absolutely nailed it.
I must have OD'd on the caffeine today because between this post and the comments I'm bawling like a baby. Thank you for sharing this creation and your comments!
This is so amazingly well done!! WoTLK was my introduction to WoW when I was 10 years old and it always brings back such good memories of myself doing Wintergrasp, farming the Time-Lost Proto Drake, doing ICC and killing Lich King whenever I hear this music. 10/10
