From homosapiens to FOMOsapiens __ a theory conceptualized in an invigorating talk by Dr. Khurram Sadiq, a leading psychiatrist from UK who addressed the audience as addicts of screen time. In an eye-opening session, he made the audience aware of the feel-good chemical dopamine which is released when viewing screens on an average of 200 times a day. The fear of missing out called FOMO replaces family and personal relationships with a desire to always be vigilant about the world around them. He also highlighted the importance of spreading awareness of mental health which becomes affected as a result. His interaction with the attendees in the networking break was quite beneficial.
Dr. Khurram Sadiq is a Consultant Psychiatrist, blogger, musician, passionate activist and soon to be vlogger. He is a public speaker who has appeared in many talk shows and TV interviews around the globe, talking about the mental health, well-being and psychological issues. He is working on bringing widespread awareness about autism to Pakistan, especially through TV interviews and delivering talks in Pakistan. He is also in the process of developing linkages with leading Pakistani schools to bring acceptance of psychological issues in students. A brilliant talk and a real eye-opener for me. We are so ill-informed, unaware of how all the excessive screen-time and constant social media is affecting us physically, psychologically and emotionally... Towards the end, how Dr. Khurram breaks it down for us and provides guidance on managing screen-time addiction in our personal lives is really practical. I am already starting to introduce these things in my everyday life. I hope more people can pick up the practical lessons in this talk. Do watch it till the end!

I think this video was truly brilliant. The contrast between pauses and short sentences was exceptionally wonderful. I was intrigued by the constant yet life changing information that is based on the way our life revolves around social media. You’re performance was quite informative to all audiences including myself. I can easily see you have put a tremendous effort to go up and perform to a ton of people on TEDx. This was a wonderful thing to watch, well done.

Our evolution from Homosapiens to FOMOsapiens, the last two decades have rendered us inapt interms of our social interactions, learning social skills, coping mechanisms leading to social isolation and less resilience.

What an eye opening and engaging talk! Really captivated by the speaker’s ability to engage with the audience on a personal level. Came away from the talk having a hugely different approach to screen use in my daily life. Highly recommend a watch!

I am awestruck to see your ability to engage the audience. As you rightly said, attention is a commodity and to gain ones is surely an art these days. It’s ironic how leisure time and sitting with oneself has become a luxury in these modern times where almost everything we deal with automated. It was a pleasure to hear this talk.
