In this episode we’re going to talk about using 3D printing to create something new and unique. And we’ll also discuss my "tiny" mistake that set off some soul searching and a guilty conscience, but ultimately culminated in a much more satisfactory outcome.

Joe, I make cardboard mockups of everything. While I am a scale guy, the issue of compression has to often be used. On the paint, Narrow Gauge Modeling Co. has over 8,000 Floquil, Polly Scale and Model Master on the shelf.

A mock-up wasn’t going to help here. The dimensions of the tower were fine. It was the detail that seemed oversize.

Oh God, yes. Some people just don't see the difference, but it jumps out at me immediately. Plus, they don't have the detail that the rest of the modeling typically has.

Thats looking much better, the whole structure's come together nicely. I have the same issue with things being out of scale - having modelled in OO, seeing HO scale vehicles on an OO layout was always an issue for me (back when OO scale vehicles were hard to source).

I'm pretty happy with it so far! As I said to someone else, the scale thing is a blessing and a curse. It would be SO much cheaper to get away with Matchboxes on a layout (and I'd have someple to put the ones I still have in the attic from childhood). Maybe I need to model S scale? 🙂

My only critique with this tower is I would have added some architectural detail to hide the joining of the two parts, as that seam is a little obvious. But, im sure there are other ways to hide it that I'm not aware of. In admitting to my own mistakes, I picked up stuff to start soldering feeders to the track and, while practicing, burnt my finger because I was too focused on the work than where my big sausage fingers were. My ego hurt longer than my finger lol

@@AnonOmis1000 Maybe. Maybe not. I'll give it a closer look and some consideration. Since the prototype doesn't have any kind of architectural detail down the sides, I'm hesitant to add any, but not opposed to it if it will help the overall effect.

@The Pixel Depot while it's not prototypical, would vines look good on that tower? I suppose the tower is too tall for vines to climb that high. In the end, it's your layout, if you're happy with it I'm not going to complain. Regardless they are beautiful prints.

@@AnonOmis1000 I’m not sure they’re too high, but it think the way the tower is oriented over the other parts of the building that it’s unlikely they would grow in that pattern. But I like the idea conceptually.
