In this video I create my dream desk out of a live edge piece of Spalted Maple... I use a Vorii Sit to stand desk base to accommodate the large slab. I will like the base below as well as some tools i used on this build... Any questions feel free to comment down below and please drop a thumbs up on the video and subscribe for more! Thanks for watching!

Great job - beautiful piece. It is nice to see a talented woodworker not using Dominos and $800 sanders. Thank you for sharing!

Beautiful job! A belt sander will take the epoxy down way faster than the orbital.

Great table! What epoxy did you use to fill the voids? I have couple slabs of spalted maple and want to do table like yours. And you are right about the fact that spalted maple is just so nice to look at.

Thanks a lot! Have you done anything with your slabs yet? I just used a 2 part epoxy from amazon.

Well I’ll be damned… saw dust and epoxy, never thought of doing that. Pretty awesome trick, thank you for sharing. This desktop came out pretty good. Keep up the good work, wish you all the luck here on RU-vid

I have to agree with you there, Black Walnut may be the " It thing" but, I love spalted maple, ambrosia maple, sugar maple, Manitoba Maple ( box elder ) that has a lot of that red tinge in it. That's just me though, if everyone else is using something, I want to find the beauty in something else.

100% agree. I'm always looking to break away from the majority. I love black walnut too but spalted maple, really any spalted wood actually is just so unique. Thanks for watching man 👊

What's the best finish or stuff u could put on any wood to protect it from cupping and twisting?

More importantly it needs to be properly dried. Finish doesn't really matter much as If it's not properly dried that is where cupping and twisting happens. In laid c channel can help though on big slabs.

Great idea, great execution. The desk makes the room! Ya, spalted stuff always looks good. I used spalted tamarind in a floor inlay once, came out nice

One: you need a new chair Two: that would have taken a bunch of beer if I was doing it Not that I could Three: hell of a nice job
