You wally! He's had 14 year carrier, yet you say he couldn't hack football. The RAF regt get the same amount of basic training squaddies do. The only difference is they're mainly for defense, protection and security. Not assault... they can however hold their own in the field, just as much as anyone else can. This man's got my respect, keep it up Lee!
@uvuvwevwevweonyetenyevweug185
No.1 squadron does the protection, no.2 does sf support, and so they would be very capable of assault and offensive procedures

Sad to read some of these nobodies who have never done anything in their life but be armchair critics. I've read it all before but until you've served best to keep quiet and not look stupid

Just spotted this vid and i must say i found the story inspirational, i myself am just about to embark on RAF basic training and as a 33 year old father of 2 i was a bit nervous about how i would be looked upon and this really has put my mind at rest.

Also to add, the RAF Regt are infact FULLY trained in offensive roles but just so happens we spend most of our time on patrols. We don't 'just' guard airfields as you think and rarely use the training we're given to our full potential. I, personally passed POC with the Royal Marines back in 2001, but was fortunate enough to speak to careers before joining, in the end opted for RAF instead as the RAF tend to look after and treat their personnel better. Which they do and I've never looked back!

The RAF Reg, Rock Apes, Gunners- Whatever you want to call them, don't deserve the hate they get. Yeah sure they have made some mistakes, but; Army infantry, Marines, Navy Sailors- aren't exactly saints and have also all made mistakes just a questionable through history. It's war, shit happens. Yeah they may big themselves up to much by saying they are equal to marines, but some of the most arrogant cocky people I have met are from the Army who act like Action heroes. And to be honest some of the specialist roles in the Reg are almost as advanced as something a Marine could be called out to do. I personally wouldn't say as dangerous (although they can always be) or equal to what a Marine would do, but still specialist for a reason! The Gunners can also join a dedicated SFSG within the Reg! Now... the Special Forces wouldn't want people not good enough to support them would they? The Gunners are chosen for a reason. You can call them glorified security guards but the reality is they; do some seriously important jobs, train hard, and they are a family. No they may not; charge into battle first on a regular basis, or fight behind enemy lines, or have as many battles or kills in the line of duty, but so what? What if some people aren't designed to kill on order, to go out with the intention to kill for a career- But prefer to rather kill if needed, to be more tactical towards combat and taking lives, to protect lives? What if they want to be more free-minded and listened too? What is wrong with guarding lives? Nothing. What is wrong with taking lives? Could be a lot (Depending.) The RAF Reg have had losses in battle- It doesn't matter if it is 1 death or 1000, they still gave their blood, and life for the country- And that makes them equal to any other armed forces in the UK. The RAF Reg get; shot at, blown up, attacked, meet confrontation in towns (Like patrols around potential insurgent towns in the middle east). They; are responsible for removing weapons or bombs from possible insurgents homes, have to drive multiple types of vehicle, patrol, learn multiple weapons systems, carry the same guns, go up in helicopters, get dropped in dangerous places, they are away from their families, could die, could see their brothers (or sisters) die. You know who else does all of that? Every other member of the Armed Forces. You are all the same, it doesn't matter what; cap badge is worn, what uniform, division, rank- RAF, Navy or Army. Stop being assholes to each other, I know banter is a big thing, but the things said about the Gunners is disgusting sometimes, they don't deserve to be questioned, hated or treated like lesser warriors. Everyone who serves is equal.

I'd rather be a convicted criminal than join the RAF Regt! They are the laughing stock of the forces. MPGS have more credibility than these morons! All anyone can think about now when the RAF Regt is mentioned, is the "5 miler of death!" 😂 😂 😂

Easy to criticise, carp or name call. But these lads fly into combat zones and provide close protection while wounded servicemen are evacuated often under fire. They perform a role within a bigger team and are only knocked by those who know no better. But rivalry and banter among service personnel is part and parcel of service life.

Vinny let the children play.... Difference is being part of the RAF whichever trade inc Gunner you are encouraged to have free thought to think outside the norm, your not infantry your far more qualified than most OR 2-3's (NATO Ranking for below JNCO) you are trained to follow orders like the rest but you are all trained to think for yourselves. How many other Regiments, Sqaudrons etc habitually ask for their juniors to put forward their opinions on proposed tasks.....not all are listened too

OK...the RAF Regt are BASED at Bastion, it was a night time surprise assault and obviously the RAF Regt would always be on alert for attacks. They cut down all the Insurgents and captured one, if the attack was more successful many more planes/equipment would be destroyed and probably loss of ISAF lives. They saved the most important UK base in Afghanistan. And its more than 5 aswell geeze. Like i said its not about the numbers, one-two they're all individual lives and 1 loss is too much.

Im not making up shit, OK..army infantry is massive- i mean huge maybe 600-800 soldiers in one batalion?, RAF will have 30 gunners in a flight (equivlant too batalion) so its fukin obvouis the army will tragically have more casualties becuase of more men and in terms of man power you have those capabilitys.. Its the same for us forces, they're 2000+ dead and they could easily be ignorant like you and be like "lol only 400+ british" but you gotta learn too respect the dead man

Says one wanting to join the Intelligence Corps, you are one to talk. Infact you'd fit right in because all they do is sit behind a desk all day and "act" intelligent...I'm not on here to prove myself to you or anyone, but you have no idea how ridiculous and daft you sound. On every single tour I've done since 2003 near enough every single patrol, my flight's had a scrap. I'd love for you to look into the eyes of every single guy that I served along side and tell them how you feel bout the Regt!
