I was in Bhutan for a week. My days were packed with travelling from one place to another. But I observed people who live there. Those are precious memories. I will try to answer this question as I saw some people living in various places in Bhutan and will try to use my imagination a bit as I write -
1. The owner of a litttle Thukpa place by the road from Phoontshilling to Thimpu - He used to work in a call centre in India. He did not like his job. He did not like his boss. He did not like the city life. So one day he left for his native land and opened up a little place beside his family run grocery store. No more waking up every day into a dreadful city life in the midst of a bustling city where every one is trying hard to meet their goals and excel in their jobs which they don't like. He wakes up in his wooden home now listening to the chirping of birds, breaths in the purest quality of air as he comes out of his home in the morning. Life is itself laid back in Bhutan. No more setting an alarm clock. A man who is happy doing what he does does not need an alarm clock to wake up. When he gets bored working in his little Thukpa place, he just walks outside and stares at the mighty mountains and the lush green valleys down below. Only when you look at something so majestic and powerful , do you realize how trifling you and your problems are. He is a happy man.
2. The security guard at the Tigers Nest Monastery - He lives in the valley of Paro. He has a wife and two sons. However if you look at him you would probably think he is still in his twenties. That is what happiness and excellent climate do to your health. He greets all the visitors with a smile. He appears to be shy however if you start talking to him you would find out that he can be a chatty man. He would tell you his story. About his boys who go to school. May be the older one will become a cop someday. The younger one is not so promising , he is always playing around. This man wakes up early enough everyday and then climbs up to the Tigers nest before anyone else and in the late after noon when the monastery closes he rushes back to the valley to his family. It took us three hours almost to climb to the top and one and half hour more to climb down but I can bet that he can climb up and then walk down all the way to the valley within ninety minutes max. He will offer you biscuits free of cost if you talk to him long enough. His days are happy working at the holiest and most prestigious site in Bhutan and nights are happier with his family.
