One thing I wish I had emphasized more in this interview is how much becoming Catholic has strengthened and deepened my relationship with Christ. It is almost impossible to express how much the Catholic faith has deepened and strengthened my love, understanding, and experience of the Lord. When I was LDS I loved Christ as I understood Him, of course - but now I have Christ in the sacraments; Christ in the Saints; Christ in the liturgy; Christ in his body, the church. Jesus promises, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied." Christ has satisfied all my spiritual and intellectual yearnings with "the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints." There is an infinite supply of grace and wisdom available to me, the complete fulfillment of what was lacking when I was LDS. Of course, the Catholic Church has many problems. Throughout its history it has lurched from crisis to crisis. But the mark of Christ is here, especially in his glorious Saints and martyrs who have constantly been the salt and leaven of the whole world. I don't claim to be any special authority, or to have any particularly strong faith. I don't pretend to be especially saintly or righteous. But I try to live by the words of St. Benedict, who urged his monks in his famous Rule: "prefer nothing to the love of Christ (nihil amori Christi præponere)." I have found him in the Catholic faith. At every Mass I adore and receive him. The scriptures are unfolded to my understanding in ways I never thought possible. My intellect is free to wander in the pastures of truth. As I say in the interview, if you're interested in connecting with me, see the email in the description. I'll do my best to respond.

As a Latter-day Saint, anything that brings you closer to Christ is good. I may think Catholics are mistaken with some stuff, but no one is perfect, we’re all going through one type of preparatory gospel or another, if this is the path of stepping stones that is helping you progress the most, that’s great. Eventually, we’ll all be united again at the 2nd coming of Christ, and I think there will be surprises in store for all of us when the veil is lifted from our eyes.

I'm watching the interview now and want to reassure you that deepened love, faith and understanding is coming across beautifully. Thank you for being vulnerable enough here to talk about your pre-conversion fears. I'm meeting with the father at my local in a few days to discuss joining RCIA, and although I'm positive, in my spirit, it is exactly what I'm meant to do, my mind has started buzzing. My parents are atheists and my best friend is a born- again so I've actually kept it quiet. They'll be falling out of their chairs, lol. God bless you and your family 😊

Thank you for this. I am a protestant wife and I am in the process of converting. I am bringing my 7 children, oldest being 10, into the faith myself while my husband is still on the fence, though very supportive of me. I am teaching them the Baltimore Catechism along with praying and going to Mass, but there is still so much to learn as a family. Please pray for my children and especially for my husbands desire to learn more about the faith and heart's conversion. I am in such need of prayers.Thank you!🙏

My husband just converted from Protestantism to Catholicism last month. I came back to the True Faith in September this year, started praying Novenas to the Sacred Heart of Mary (Catholic Crusade is a great resource) and the daily Rosary for his conversion, without ever asking him to do it. By the end of October he came to Catholicism on his own, I am immensely grateful for Mary's intercession, every day. We now pray the Rosary every day together, asking for the conversion of all souls. I have faith She can intercede for your husband's conversion as well!

I've also met mean cruel and unjust Mormons. I've witnessed institutional injustice from members of their church who endorsed the obstruction of justice......In good measure, there is good and bad in every club, clan or church for we are all "made of feet of clay". In the Catholic Church, which has a rich limitless bottomless Treasury from the merits of its Founder Christ Himself, the nice people are not just nice in the cosmetic sense, for they are not meant to stay just at that level. They are, and called to be, as every baptised person is called, to be real saints! "That I may decrease, so my Lord may increase." Saints who follow their Lord in hidden daily loving sacrifice, or heroic martyrdom. Plus the practice of all the cardinal virtues - prudence, temperance, justice and fortitude. That's why they shine even more in adversity, outiside the comfort zone of pleasantry...Because they are connected to the Vine that our Lord is. Every person is compelled by the surpassing charity of Christ, in contrast to selfish gain or vanities....Happy Christmas 🎄

Iii@@DanDeueligual So worth a copy! I grew up in New Mexico. Never once did I question my family’s income. It was never a discussion. We ate homemade meals consisting of meat, potatoes, and vegetables - (which were not an optional choice). No vegetables = no dessert!!! We had chores EVERYDAY, and we did them WITHOUT complaining, because it was expected of us. We never touched anything that did not belong to us. We never opened a refrigerator at anyone's house unless asked to do so. We were taught to respect other peoples property. And we were rewarded for acting properly. We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, shoveled snow, babysat, helped with all chores. We by no means were given everything we wanted. We went outside a lot to play, ran with friends, played hide and seek, or went bike riding. We rarely just sat inside. Bottled water was unheard of. If we had a soda, it was a treat. We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and be home before dark (if street lights were on meant you were in the yard).. You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW and you did not question it and you had better know it! We watched what we said around our elders and neighbors because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up, we would get a real good whooping! It wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline! We held the doors for others and carried the groceries into the house. We gave up our seat for an older person without being asked. You didn't hear swear words on the radio in songs or on TV. “Please and Thank you", were part of our daily vocabulary! The world we live in now is just so full of people who hate and disrespect others. Friends, consider re-posting if you're thankful for your childhood. I will never forget where I came from and only wish children and people nowadays had half the chance at the fun and respect for real life we grew up with! And we were never bored! Copied and pasted (change where YOU grew up).9

And Jesus said to him, 'Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.' Another of the disciples said to him, 'Lord, let me first go and bury my father.' And Jesus said to him, 'Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.' You can be the place Jesus can rest in and lay his head. You can leave those who choose death, because God has called you to eternal life. God bless you friend.

When I was on my mission I came across several passages in the BOM that were copied directly from the new testament, this bothered me because we were always taught the new testament had been corrupted so how did the BOM read the same if it had been translated purely and seperately? I asked one of the heads of the department of CES (church educational services) who happened to live in my mission area. His response was "well joseph came across that in the golden plates and decided to just copy over from the new testament to save time" Also the Joseph smith papers were released while I was on my mission (4 first visions that are completely contradictory) and the King Follet Discourse (completely contradictory to the doctrine of Jesus)@@alisterrebelo9013

God bless you because you mean well. I find it sad that the BOM has zero ancient manuscripts confirming it, not a single authentic second hand copy of it or outside source confirming it... but constantly attacks the bible which has 40,000+ ancient manuscripts confirming its authenticity. Including the dead sea scrolls dated back to 400BC found in the 1940s in Israel. Which all prove that the catholic church didnt change a single verse. I mean we could end this debate right now, let's excavate the hill cummorah which joesph marked in upstate new york and it is a church history site. Lets find the hundreds of thousands of dead lamanites and nephites, the swords and the chariots, the breast plates. Lets dig it up!! The book of mormon fails every test and has been changed thousands of times it used to be highly trinitarian and still has some trinitarian verses remaining. You should watch "Test of a prophet: The bible vs joseph smith" My grandfather was a mormon historian who died in nauvoo, i have an original 1832 book of mormon and can show you how much its changed over the years. It used to be highly trinitarian I'll pray for you, may God lead you home to the church he established and prophesied "And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" @@dylanwilliams2202

Would highly recommend “How the Earliest Christians Worshipped” here on youtube. I feel the apostolic succession argument is easily one of the strongest for Catholicism and seems to disprove LDS teachings on the Great Apostasy, as Paul mentions priests and bishops in the epistles, which is the only real argument as to why mainstream Christianity is false. My family is LDS and I grew up with a lot of those perspectives, and I really have found that Catholicism is the one true Church. It is what the LDS church claims to be, but with true sacraments, thousands of years of theological history, and a rich culture. I hope the best for you, keep looking and I think you will come to the same conclusion. God bless you

@@CatholicKitThanks, very cool, I will check it out. TBH - in my mind at this point I think my burning question is regarding the legitimacy of Catholicism Versus Orthodox Christianity. Most people you find that have truly been down this road have already deconstructed Mainstream Mormonism. Many like me have passed though many belief structures ranging from agnosticism to atheism to paganism and nihilism, in my case I found some comfort and relief in shamanism, which again to be honest, opened me up to prayers of intercession involving the saints and Mother Mary. One thing I think I've got out of this journey is that we are here learning the lessons we need and in some cases different beliefs may indeed be like stepping stones for those that are desiring to know progress towards God. The problem is we do not have the omniscient view that God hadls and it can be difficult to take a step back and have the faith need and trust that God is there and things will turn out OK, not just for ourselves but even more regarding our children and family. I will check out your recommendation. Right now it's like drinking from the firehose. 😅

I grew up in a Catholic family. Converted to LDS at age 18. Still love being LDS. I really enjoyed this conversation. I remember doing some genealogy work, and just being very proud that I come from a long line of believers. Because of my catholic ancestors, my family and extended family has faith in Christ. That was very powerful to me. The Catholic Church has helped both my great grandfather and my grandfather spiritually, when it came time for them to bury their children. This has been their spiritual support for centuries. I disagree with many aspects of Catholic tradition, but I will always be a friend to Catholics and the Catholic Church for the good they’ve done to my family. Without them, we wouldn’t enjoy living under the umbrella of a Christian world view like we do now. And like Isaac Hess said regarding how him and his wife navigate their flavors of Christianity in the home-- they still have so much in common, and so do we. We believe in the parables, the sermon on the mount, the resurrection, and so much more.
@Clementine202
@Clementine202 4 месяца назад
I also appreciate the love and respect with which many Catholics and LDS treat each other. However, I personally hesitate to consider LDS a different “flavor” of Christianity because belief of Jesus as a divine deity and member of the Trinity doesn’t exist in LDS, and Jesus’ claims in the Bible can’t be skirted off like that. His claims were huge. It makes me think of C.S. Lewis’ Trilemma argument for Jesus being truly the Lord! If you haven’t heard of it, please look into it! It’s written in ‘Mere Christianity.’
@halffeelee
@halffeelee 4 месяца назад
@@Clementine202 we believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. I'm not sure if it gets more divine than that. Jesus is Lord. In the title page of the Book of Mormon, when explaining one of the purposes of the Book of Mormon, it says "...to the convincing of the Jew and the Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God...". Now, of course there are differences in how we view the trinity. And of course you believe in your point of view and I believe in mine. And you are welcome to hesitate to consider us a flavor of Christianity. Respectfully, it's not your validation or approval that we are seeking.

Sometimes when Mormons encounter something that shakes their faith, they don’t go to anyone for help or tell anyone because it feels shameful to have read something that can cause doubt or it just feels shameful to have had any doubt. It’s like a dark secret that you don’t want anyone to find out. That was my experience when I first started to encounter problems with Mormon truth claims.

I know I'm late here man, but I can't tell you how valuable I found this. I've been on a recent journey to find answers that have lead me to the early Church and have gained a appreciation for the discipline and what I immediately recognize as a type of reverence that accompanies traditional religious practices in a way that doesn't seem to widely exist, at least to the same degree, within the bulk of Protestant denominations. This is a anecdotal example of my personal experience in a few different Protestant Churches over about a 20 year period or more, but I don't believe this to be something most Protestants accept or believe to be generally valuable, to the degree it wouldn't often be acknowledged as something worth cultivating within their view of how the Church should be or operate. That may be a bit muddled, but I hope it kind of makes sense. Anyway, I just wanted to add that I not only appreciated the wealth of information, but the manner in which you conducted yourself and handled this discussion, you were a absolute and scholarly gentleman that offered all here a honest picture of these fellow Christians, without the insecure need to mock or belittle even the things you knew would likely be fertile grounds for disagreement. You've earned a follow and I'll be sending others to support you as well. Thank you and God bless.

Just saw three young Mormon missionaries today at the metro today in my country, Malaysia. It'd be inspiring if it isn't also sad (I hope I put it the right way) that these men braved their way to lesser known places in the world for a non-Catholic faith. I simply offered the rosary that I was praying for their conversion and carried on with my business.

On a side note, thank you for also sharing the story about the native Americans. It's always brings tears to my eyes when someone realizes that we were & still are a civilized & intellectual people. @LenaSheppard I honor the Native American peoples and am proud that our Catholic ancestors helped (and protected, in many cases - thinking of St. Junipero Serra) bring Jesus Christ to them. Being of Irish ancestry, I fondly recall that the Cherokee people - who had next to nothing at the time - donated to the starving Irish people. We have much more in common than that which might divide us. Do you know the story of Venerable Mary of Agreda? She bilocated from Spain to Texas, teaching and preparing the Native Americans to receive the Gospel, in the 1700s. May God grant you His peace.

Great until the end. I cannot comprehend not fighting to keep children away from false teaching. I get that it would put their marriage on some rocky ground, but some fights are worth it. John 4 - the Father seeks those who worship in spirit and truth. That is the message I give to LDS missionaries when they come to hang out at my house. We look at John 4, I openly appreciate their willingness to venture out into the world for what they think is pleasing to God, but then I gently point out they lack the truth. We shouldn't skip that opportunity, even if our spouse isn't a fan of the idea...

LDS guy here. Appreciate the respect shown to the faith. Of course disagree with Isaac's conclusions but I know many (including myself) who have wrestled with similar questions. For some, those questions are cause to leave; for me wrestling through those questions has humbled me, stretched me, but ultimately led to more certainty about God's hand in the LDS faith than ever before. I've had dreams, experiences, dare I say visions, that I cannot deny. To do so would be to blaspheme against the Holy Ghost. But those are personal to me, and I can only speak for myself. I pray that the Lord will be merciful to me as I know I have many weaknesses and failures. As Jordan Peterson emphasizes, being in the house of "Israel" means to "wrestle with God". We all have our own "wrestles" with the Lord and it seems like Isaac is sincerely seeking the truth here. I wish him no ill will and truly hope that he continues to come closer to Christ. I pray that we'll meet at Jesus' feet and worship him together, with the saints, for eternity.

Just now watched this interview....I'm a Catholic in the SLC area. I'm really impressed with how well it sounds like Isaac and his wife are making a mixed faith marriage work while raising their children. My brother married a woman of the LDS church. He was not active in the Catholic church at the time of their marriage. He later decided to return only to find out he could not get the marriage blessed because even though she has been supportive of his faith journey, she is not willing to consider having children with him, and even if they did have children, she would not agree to raising them Catholic. He has not returned to the Catholic Church since it is too depressing for him to come and be permanently barred from the sacraments. It's encouraging to hear of a Catholic-LDS couple making it work and still raising their children in both churches. My LDS in-laws and I are very close and find many ways to share our faith with each other even if we can't agree theologically on everything.

I'm thinking about relocating to Utah, potentially for a job opportunity in Provo. I've heard great things about the Catholic community, particularly in Park City. As someone considering a career move to this area, I'm interested in learning more about the Catholic lifestyle in Provo, especially regarding family life. My husband and I are devout Catholics, attending the traditional Latin Mass, and he's currently shifting his career towards software engineering. We're trying to gauge if Provo is a suitable place for his career prospects and for raising our family in a Catholic environment. We're also curious about the dynamics of the local Catholic community, like at St. Mary's. Are there many young Catholic families there? We're a bit concerned about integrating into an area that might have a predominant LDS (Latter-day Saints) presence. Any insights into the Catholic culture and community in this region would be really helpful.

But the more I studied, and spoke to the LDS members, it was apparent that while LDS has wonderful members and family structures, they clearly follow a totally false doctrine. They are not Christians, in the true sense of the faith. Joseph Smith, was obviously a influential leader in his time, but he was clearly a morally corrupt, manipulative person.

They started making a determination about a prophets opinion vs revelation at the time of David O’Mackay. They had an issue with general authorities of the LDS church spouting opinion and people taking it as revelation. So, generally the pattern would be if a “prophet” said something like “thus saith the lord” or openly proclaimed a revelation and of course that would need to go into the Doctrine and Covenants (LDS scripture)

The _”problem”_ with the epistles is reading and interpreting them *IN CONTEXT.* Paul, Peter, etc. wrote many of the NT books to address certain issues within the recipient churches. Imagine that you were a religious leader addressing an issue with a certain parish. Now imagine that email, telephones, or any modern technology. Now imagine further that you didn’t *KNOW* that your writings would become part of sacred Scripture. How would you write such a letter? You probably wouldn’t write explanatory background material to explain a problem they already knew all too well! You might write (as a Catholic): _”Dear Father xxxx: About that issue with those false teachers, here’s what you need to know …”_

@@SJohnson529 yeah that would probably do it. Something that can be retested over and over again would be great. For something as specific as Jesus or Zeus, it would require a lot. Maybe a first hand sighting and an impressive feat, like Zeus coming out of the clouds and hurling a lightning bolt. Idk though, I’m agnostic, but I’m extremely doubtful about any of the major religions. Any with a god or gods that have wills. Just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m more like to believe in a sort of “oneness” of the universe and all energy. I’ve experienced telepathy multiple times, so it seems more likely that we’re all connected. But Zeus, Jesus, Shiva, these are all just made up characters. The main reason most people believe in Jesus is because they were taught from an early, impressionable age. All of that “I feel the lord’s love” is just the power of our minds, and the ability to hallucinate. Same sort of thing happens with pagan shamans.

40:11 what Joseph taught in his king follett sermon was that if the veil was rent and you could see God you would see a man sitting on the throne in yonder heavens. He backs this up by reasoning in the Bible that the Son does what the Father did. (If I’m correct he is referencing John 5:19). So as a Latter day Saint, do I think God was a sinner? No. I think the Father was a savior just like the Son, and thus committed no sin. Be that as it may, if we enter into the fullness of God as joint heirs with Christ being full of grace and truth, can we still be considered sinners at that point?

Hi there, lucky for you I just came by to check comments. :) I use an NTI-style device, which I wear over my top teeth, though mine is flat on the bottom with nothing protruding, so all my four bottom front teeth make contact simultaneously. This relaxes the jaw muscles when you clench. So _if_ your pain is caused by muscle issues due to clenching, it should help. Beware, though, that it can cause your bite to change. Your molars will super-erupt, and your front teeth may no longer make contact when you close your mouth. This makes biting into food difficult. However, I consider this a fine trade-off to be pain free.
