The entrapped air release holes and pegs - very cunning! The kinetic sand for the masked areas looks really promising on my own projects. I need to fill areas .25 of a mil across by .7 of a mil deep, though. As well as remove the masking material from the silicone afterwards. Perhaps kinetic sand and a magnifying glass is the way to go. I need to avoid the feathery edge left if I pour in a liquid filler. It always pulls back (down) slightly from the surface of the master.
@DoasIDo1
@DoasIDo1 4 месяца назад
It seems to me that kinetic sand is not suitable for such sizes, plasticine is better.

@DoasIDo2 Thanks for your experienced and considered reply. In the UK we have Chavant. It's a heavy duty modelling plasticine, so I'll go with that.
@Acheiropoietos
@Acheiropoietos 4 месяца назад
I believe it has to be sulphur free plasticine to be compatible with silicone.
@larryfroot
@larryfroot 4 месяца назад
@Acheiropoietos I think Chavant is advertised as being sulphur free - but I will double check. Thanks for the heads up.

Could’ve made a jacket mold and used less silicone instead of a flood mold , also if you’re doing a flood mold on something that small , you could pour it in one lump and cut it open afterwards, make the cuts jagged and you e got your location sorted.

Could have just used cura as a slicer and loaded up an object with the mold option on and just 3d print the mold
@TheNerdArmory
@TheNerdArmory 4 месяца назад
You /want/ to sand with projects like this. You can cut corners the way you suggest, but it will lead to an inferior result that will come out on every piece you make. Better to perfect one model and then mold it with silicone so you can use it MANY times over.
@JoshuaSmith-sb6wk
@JoshuaSmith-sb6wk 4 месяца назад
@@TheNerdArmory one thing I have done to cut back on sanding is to layer on 3d resin with a brush. Put it under uv. Rinse repeat. Just an idear

Another awesome video I’m curious I have a resin 3d printer would the process be the same or would I need a silicon with a tougher hardness rating to make a copy I’d love to see a video on this also u got a sub from me

Thank you very much! A resin 3D printer would be even better. You won't have to process the master model so carefully.

Why not make a reverse mold from the original in the 3d modeling software and then 3d print the mold?

How long takes it till you have to change the ventilator? Without protection it gets so fast paint on the surface that it will get sooner broken than normal.

Why did you spray silicone removing spray before putting the putty on and again before painting? Shouldn't you only put that on before the mold?

k this may be dum to some people but my last model i made i did the filling differently becus moste filler primers do a really bad job at filling the layerlines this was my step by step: light sand to make it a little bit smoother then a tick varnish let it cure sand and then again a thick varnish after that it was just wet polish the model with a 1000grid and it was ready for paint maby an idea for next time
