50kg silicone is about £650, why not cast your own ears? You can make them on demand if you get small quantities of silicone, say 5kg tubs they work out a little more expensive than bulk purchases, and you can make your own unique colours. How are you going to market these? Is your personal channel bigger than this one? Some ears, in my opinion, ‘work’ better than others, as long as they are not deformed, as some types have deformities that can confuse the person as to where sounds are coming from as you could possible get to identical tones from two directions, good pinna have unique tones at any given angle, pinna have a defined ‘colour’ of tones that can be mapped, the majority of people have a vaguely similar tone maps so finding an ear that falls within the majority ‘colour map’ should give the best results the the majority. I think Numann had a few hundred scans of random people and used the average final ear as a accumulation of all of them, it’s still just an ear shape at the end of the day, looking at an ear has two objectives, looks, and function in my most humble opinion.
Custom colors is a "nice to have" that is something I can work towards in the future! Silicone color is not a blocker, but getting a plastic in a matching color is a more difficult task. My main focus is to create a quality microphone first with a minimalistic aesthetic and then work from there. I agree on the ears. The ears on Prototype #5a just were not good at all even for sound which is why I went with different ears for #5b.
