We have one, after having had a black lab mix. We loved him, but our new chocolate lab is already in our hearts as if she's been there for years, but she's just been with us for five weeks! Are chocolate labs really more mellow than black or yellow?

@@connyjensen1877 Yellow are much more excitable, ive had both, never had a black lab though. Seems chocolate are the most relaxed.

I’m getting a chocolate lab puppy in the summer

I’ve been thinking of getting a chocolate lab as well but I’m not sure if I’m fully ready or if it’s the right dog. I’ve dreamed of having a golden retriever but there are no breeders near me and it would cost way to much to get one sent to me. Idk

Ours does that when I leave. I guess she imprinted on me :) I love having her near, except when I have to go back and forth in the house. She often follows me around, unless she is very tired.

chocolate labrador's are the dilute form of black, so basically the chocolate gene turns the black coat into a lighter color which is the brown. dilute coat colors also lighten the dogs eyes, so chocolate labradors generally have brighter eyes such as hazel or green/greenish-yellow eyes.

@@W_T_D so basically yellow is a completely separate color from the black and chocolate genes. there is no dilute version for the yellow color, however yellow labradors can come in many shades from a deep yellow to even red shade (called fox red) to even very pale cream colors or even almost white. because the yellow color is not a dilute gene, yellow labs should have dark noses and brown/dark eyes. there are "dudley" yellow labradors which the yellow labrador will have a pink or tan nose and more paler eyes, however generally it's not encouraged to breed them and usually come from bad breeders like backyard breeders who try to sell them for a higher price to try and scam and lie to people that they are a "rare" color. dudley labradors can sometimes still pop up in litters bred by responsible breeders however the color is generally not encouraged due to breed standard
