If you need to get new shingles, look for "class 4" shingles. They are more expensive up front but your insurance company will likely give you a good discount on your policy that will more than recover the cost. In our case, the class 4 shingles cost $3,000 more than regular shingles, but we get a $450 discount each year for the next 15 years on our insurance.
