When Europe faces the refugee crisis, Salam Aldeen, a young Dane with personal refugee experience, ventures to Greece as a volunteer. Inspired by his own journey fleeing civil war in Moldova, Salam dedicates himself to rescuing refugees in the Aegean Sea.
However, his mission takes a drastic turn when he's arrested and accused of human smuggling while searching for a lost refugee family.
Facing the possibility of a life sentence in a Greek prison, Salam's case becomes a pivotal moment for the future of humanity in Europe, challenging democratic values in the birthplace of democracy.
