Wow beautiful! I love Emotive Colour. It brings out better colours, and it makes it look "creamy" with the nice highlight roll off. And your film emulation on top of that is just a chef's kiss. Love the video and music, subbed!

This is by far the best comment I could ever get! Thank you so much for that, and I’m glad you like it! Emotive Color is indeed incredible! Thanks for stopping by and subscribing! ❤️ Watch my last video for a taste of my full film emulation in a more cinematic context! A lot more to come, as soon as I finish fixing my computer.. 😬😅

Looks amazing. I am planning on buying the s5iix although im wondering if the lumix can record prores 422 hq 5.8k internally without an external recorder
@davidmultimedia2024
@davidmultimedia2024 5 месяцев назад
Thanks man! Yes, it does (on external SSD via USB C port). You only need an external recorder if you want to record RAW, or ProRes without any internal processing.

Which setting would you go for for shooting the highest quality cinematic images with this camera? Pro res 5.8k? Opengate 6k? raw? if raw is first choice what second choice would you go for? Would love your input and/or potentially a video about it than you!
@davidmultimedia2024
@davidmultimedia2024 7 месяцев назад
Well, ProRes 422 HQ is the highest quality codec available on this camera, but it won’t make your images more “cinematic”… it’s just a much higher bitrate so it will have less compression artifacts when pushing grades to the extremes (not always visible).. and motions will look a bit better especially because ProRes is an All-Intra codec (it records every frame, unlike LongGOP codecs like the H.265 6K Open Gate). It will also edit A LOT smoother (easier for your CPU). Cinematic images has more to do with lighting, composition, look, camera movements, and most importantly.. GOOD story telling! ;)

@@davidmultimedia2024 Thank you, of course most aspect of an image being cinematic is down to other factors, I meant aside from those. Thank you for the precise reply. Just you didn't include Raw. Is the raw recording above the pro press 422 hd on here?
@davidmultimedia2024

@@warrendupuyphotosvideos8540Shooting RAW has both pros and cons, and they all should be considered wisely. Pros : - Bypasses internal processing completely (like sharpening and noise reduction, which sadly aren’t 100% disabled when set to 0), allowing you to better control the way you process your image in post production. - It allows you to change WB in post without affecting image quality (can be useful, but you can still fine-tune WB with other codecs without affecting image quality too much if it’s not too far off). - 12 bit color over 10 bit can give you more headroom to push the limits of the codec… but 10 bit is more than enough in most cases (I don’t miss having 12 bit at all.. I can still achieve great results). Cons : - You need to buy an external recorder (Atomos Ninja V or BMD Video Assist 12G), which are expensive. - File sizes are similar to ProRes 422 HQ, but compared to other codecs.. it’s A LOT bigger, so you’ll need a lot of storage. - Since RAW doesn’t allow downscaling in camera, you can only shoot 5.8K in full frame (all other resolutions are cropped, unlike with other codecs). - Having an external monitor always hooked to your rig can be cumbersome and heavy.. and any HDMI cable will block your camera screen from tilting (which is a huge limitation sometimes, especially when you need to use the camera screen to control autofocus) - Shooting externally always adds the potential risk of corrupted files caused by a problem with the HDMI cable/HDMI port, or sometimes you may encounter glitches in the image for a few frames. - Lumix cameras introduce an awful lag through the HDMI port, which can be reduced when bypassing audio.. but that’s limiting and not completely gone.. and that’s not cool! - Shooting RAW is often more prone to have even more Moiré issues compared to internal codecs. That pretty much sums it up! If you’re relatively new to filmmaking/videography, I would definitely not bother considering RAW videos.. You should concentrate on learning lighting, composition, nailing exposure, color grading, and story telling. Even the lowest quality LongGOP codec is totally good enough for achieving cinematic images.. Hope that helps! Cheers! PS : Don’t forget to like and subscribe, and watch my latest video for more cinematic examples!

did you see that there's a company that can add an OLPF for like $600 to the ii/x
@davidmultimedia2024
@davidmultimedia2024 7 месяцев назад
Kolari Vision, sure! From what I’ve seen, it’s great! But it’s $699 USD.. and I live in Canada (CAD is x1.35 the USD = 943.65$ CAD), so I’d have to ship my camera to the USA ($$$) and pay for shipping it back (including customs fees)… The whole thing would be quite pricey for me! 😬 I’m also waiting to see the next Lumix camera releases 😅✌🏻

Does what work with Canon R7? The diffusion fx? Sure, you can apply those on any footage you’d like. Emotive Color (the Alexa conversion) doesn’t support Canon cameras though. You can see the list of supported cameras in the "Buy" section (link is in the description). Thanks for stopping by!

all that hard work...and sadly, due to the massive You Tube compression I get here in Brunei...it all looked exactly the same!! Sorry, but YT is the worst for these sorts of videos lol.
@davidmultimedia2024
@davidmultimedia2024 6 месяцев назад
Yea.. RU-vid compression is indeed horrible, but it doesn’t kill the differences in colors and light diffusion. I would recommend grabing a screenshot of each example (same frame) and analyze them by comparing using the arrow keys on your keyboard. That way, the differences will pop out/flash on screen. Trust me, it’s there (even after RU-vid’s compression). The differences in diffusion fx is subtle so you have to understand what to look for in order to see it. You can also find that video on Vimeo for a better quality. Thanks for stopping by! Cheers!

@davidmultimedia2024
@davidmultimedia2024 8 месяцев назад
I'm sorry you feel that way, but are you sure you actually know what to look for in this comparison? It's mainly all about subtle light diffusion technics done in post. You need to look at this on your computer and not on a smartphone screen. Finally, make sure the full 4K resolution is loading, otherwise you won't be able to pick up the nuances. Maybe you should jump to the still images transition near the end of the video, and take a screenshot of all 9 examples. Then compare the still images by scrolling from one to the next using your arrow keys. You will see the differences quite easily that way (splashes of light will appear on different areas of the image, blooming the highlights and spilling into the shadows). If you still can't see them.. then maybe this kind of detail won't matter to you, but it does matter to a lot of people trying to level up the filmic caracteristics of their digital footage. Colorgrading is all about tiny details/moves that add up to the whole final look man! If you still can't see the differences after that, come back and THEN we'll talk! ;)

😮 Even when watching the still images fading from the Panasonic Rec709 (01) to the full Film Emulation (09)?! I understand that examples 3 to 8 are harder to notice because it’s the same Alexa look, but only with different stages of light diffusion FX (the light scatters/spills in the shadows more and more from 3 to 8). The full film look at the end has completely different colors (bluer greens, warmer skintones, etc). I suggest you watch it again and pay attention to the shadows around the cap visor, for instance. If you still can’t notice the differences, you can also take a screenshot of the same frame for each examples and then scroll them with your keyboard arrows (you will see the differences very easily that way). Thanks for watching and commenting anyway! :)
