Still working through this, but it's a nice breath of fresh air to have people with non-banking backgrounds be on the channel. Adds variety and new flavour! The mental health stuff was important to hear about too, especially from an athlete. I think sport has a long way to go with regards to it. Great interview as always 🙌

I know you know him personally so asking about money might be awkward but his motivation behind Wharton and Goldman still doesn’t make financial sense to me. He made around 60 million dollars in his career after taxes and agent fees that leaves him worst case scenario around 25 million. He says he spend his money wisely so lets say he has a net worth of 20 million. He also says he wants to work at Goldman or atleast the financial industry after graduation. As an analyst you make around 150-200k which is a lot for normies but not for a guy like him. He is a nfl legend if he went into coaching he would make 500k minimum as a lineman coach. So unless he aspires to be a cfo or something near that position I don’t really see the motivation behind it. Not to mention he says he wants to play with his kids, good luck finding time to do so. Don’t get me wrong his story is inspiring but it just leaves me with a lot of questions

Makes 0 sense. He's already worth beyond 99.9% what people spend 30+ years of 80 work weeks to achieve in IB. He should just buy a business. If he retired right now and lived off even 2% withdrawal, that's 400k+ spend. That's the same spend as people who earn 1.5 million+ annually on top of potentially being able to scale a business to exit

the key words are "financial sense". Yes, obviously his decision to pursue IB does not make financial sense. But the interview makes clear what his motivations are.

stop saying "i'm curious to know" to try to ease into the next question. repeat the last point he mentions and ask the question straight.

It's crazy that he has lived with stress-related anxiety, yet managed to carve out an amazing football career before choosing to go into something as stressful as investment banking Side note: It's hilarious that I used to see him on TV in either his jersey or gameday gear, and now he looks like a finance bro haha

Hi @rareliquid! I was admitted into Columbia, Johns Hopkins BME, and brown. I ended up choosing Hopkins bme because I wanted to go into med, but now I’m realizing I don’t think I hope to go into medicine. My initial acceptances to brown and Columbia would not guarantee me transfer acceptance rate. Although Johns Hopkins is a top ten school, it is not a target for investment banking. Would you recommend that I try to transfer or would I still be able to get recruited by large firms at Johns Hopkins? Thanks so much!
