Austin Rivers was once ranked higher than Anthony Davis coming out of high school. But after an unspectacular time at Duke, plus his early season struggles - Rivers was on the verge of falling out of the NBA...until....

No, it is that bad. He was ranked #1 coming out of HS and a lottery pick. For his career, he averaged 8 points a game which is just a point more than his second year. He was a below average player with no specialty. If he wasn't Doc's son, this video wouldn't even exsist.

He got a little too much hate. He wasn't the best player of his class by far, but once he got his role established he was productive. Plenty of guys completely bust out and can't even get to a 2nd contract. Once he left college, I think the expectations were a bit more grounded. Nobody expected him to be amazing the second he got to New Orleans.

Overrated in his initial pre-draft ranking, went to the wrong school that didn’t use him correctly as a combo guard scorer, and was caudlled. His father being GM/coach gave him more time to reach any type of potential that he had left. Overall solid 7th man. Should’ve been a 2nd round or late first round pick.

Nobody thought he was ging to be a superstar except his fans. I don't think NO drafted him because Doc Rivers is his old man. Nepotism is getting something because a relative is in a position to benefit you due to the relation. Doc traded for a backup PG that just so happened to be his son, and his numbers in LA kinda justified the move. I seriously doubt that he could spend 12 years in the NBA just because of his daddy. Teams seemed to have felt he was good enough to keep around. The NBA is full of father-son connections, be it player to player, exec to player or coach to player.

I’m sorry…youre saying Doc Rivers wanted a back up PG and he signed a back up PG who happened to be his son? Just happened to be his son? Just coincidence??
