The younger generations don't realize how bad things got after 9/11 - obviously that event wasn't the single cause but it feels like it marked a very definitive line for which I remember life being much better before and things turned very dark in the years after, never to return again. I genuinely believe we were happier, healthier and were more prosperous before cell phones, instant communication at all times, the massive amount of regulations and monitoring and inflation -at the end of the 90's it was easy to get a $6 - $7 an hour job at Burger King or something and you could still afford to fill your gas tank half full with a $5 bill and you could get a week's worth of food at the grocery store for $15....essentially $20 a week was the only thing really REQUIRED to make it to work and back and get through the day. Today, many people are working for $9 an hour but a tank of gas is $50 and you MIGHT be able to eat for 2 days on $10 worth of groceries and then you've got the stress of being plugged in and essentially "on" all the time with cell phones and social media. .....I think back to the 90s and the thing I absolutely miss the most was the ability to get in your car and just disappear for an afternoon and NOBODY would be upset at you.....there weren't any cell phones - at least not for normal people - so it's not like you were expected to constantly be looking at it. If you stopped in the park and just sat for 2 hours it would be no big deal. It's gotten so bad......sometimes I feel like a frog being boiled alive in 21st century western culture.

@@davidkeetz I have made a similar point so I know exactly how you feel. It feels like there was a fleeting moment, where we were just in a solid spot. Not everyone of course. But from the mid 90s until those planes hit those towers, there was a real sense of country, unity. We had a budget surplus by the end of Clinton’s years. We had dealt with some bs over in Kosovo, and we were in a good spot. The nation was not perfect, but we were close. I would love for our young people to be able to experience the 1990s. What a time to be alive!

Very interesting how optimistic he was. The end of the cold war. Seems like we are back in a warm war. Seems like a simpler, more friendly time. Politicians being cooperative and accepting the results of the election. Hinesight is 20/20, but i wish we could go back to this.

facts, my friend. facts. young people have no idea just how much worse life is on the whole today. I think back to that time and I miss so much about it. I miss how much buying power a minimum wage job had compared to today. I was happy working a crappy job because I could still fill my gas tank, get a pack of smokes and take out lunch for under $20....and then I could just decide to go for a four drive into the country and it would be fine because I was expected to constantly be checking this stupid cell phone. Time with friends felt more valuable because you weren't constantly seeing them on social media - - there was a feeling of real exploration without a GPS map in your pocket at all times. The world was SO DIFFERENT before 2001. @@jmjfanss

Not gonna lie. I didn’t vote for Bill Clinton in ‘92, nor ‘96. (Yes, I was a diehard Republican who voted for Bush and Dole.) But as time went on, scandals aside, Clinton actually had more of our interests at heart than any president before or since (save for maybe Reagan). I actually appreciated President Clinton’s approach to leadership. Even willing to reach out to Republicans to achieve a greater good. You rarely see that anymore in politics.

I was 31 years younger then and I was in awe of Bill Clinton. I thought he communicated so well. When I listen and watch now, I am not that impressed. In fact it seemed that he sounded and came across as so boring. Time and experience does change perceptions.

Fair enough, but I think most would agree that Clinton's strength was as a master retail politician more than as a public speaker. The joke was that his speech st the '88 DNC was a flop.

Four years earlier, Dan had to cut an interview with Senator-elect Charles Robb of Virginia short to announce that Missouri - and the presidency - went to George H.W. Bush; dunno if he went back to Robb or not. By the way…ABC also called Ohio for Clinton; unsure about NBC.

The election in 2000 took weeks to finish. Republicans under fund elections, and you blame everyone else? They attack poll workers for doing their civil duty FOR FREE. We need a minimum of 250 million dollars to properly fund presidential elections. Biden asked for 130 million, and Republicans gave him 20 million. They want to break the system and then point to it and say that the election was rigged. They purposefully try to destroy our election system so that they don't lose. You don't see that? Please do some research!
