We posted a video earlier this week of Pat working this horse with the flag and tarp. In this video from our old membership website, we get to see the fruits of our labor and watch this horse load in a trailer with dignity and without being nervous about it. And it took right around 25 minutes start to finish. For more information, visit our website www.thedisciplinedride.com. Please take a moment to hit the Like button, Subscribe to our Channel, and Share with your friends. Thank you for watching!

I continue to learn, get a chuckle and become a better horseman watching these videos Pat & Deb. This particular one really helped me teaching a four year old, who somewhat out of the blue, decided he wasn't going to go in the trailer anymore. Anyway, great video, worked like a charm and I now have my horse going in and out of trailer with no effort at all. Thx!!

Thank you. I’m getting up in age, and I was taught to walk the horse in... it isn’t working so well, with me literally climbing in, while my horse simply wants to load. You’ve taught me to stand aside and use the cues.

Pat thank you for that video. By golly, prior to watching you mate I learnt how to deep breath with my anxiety, with and from humans not horses. Mate eh, I've been doin it on one of the mares here at home, and she now lowers her head nearly to the ground. Her hind legs would always cook but now I have her head. 🇦🇺

I wish I had found this video before starting to try to train my new filly to trailer load. At least I have a better direction to go forward. I suppose admitting you have a problem is the first step to fixing it. I am a dink. Admittedly said.😂 Thanks for the insight Pat and Deb.

I'm from Montana. Wish I would have been smart enough to do ranching . At 72 , way to late now but I really enjoy how patiently you train your horses. Only hoarse rancher I 've been around Ross Ranch up by Jordan , had one older brother mugg the colt or pony and the younger brother got on and went for a wild ride . There horses always seemed jumpy to me . I like your way better but I don't think they felt they had time like you do . Thanks again

I have watched many "Difficult Horse" trailer loading videos - this is by far the best of them all. The quiet, firm way he goes about everything - the way he gives the horse room to think and learn, but still having to be respectful - the fact that he teaches the horse how to chose to go properly into the trailer, then stand quietly, then turn around and go quietly out when asked. Makes more sense than any other video I've seen. His explanations about how the horse thinks and why it does what it does, and how he can cause the horse to think differently and make right choices is amazing! My horse is gone now - but I wish I would have seen this video years ago. I knew ground work was important, and was willing to spend the time - I just didn't have anyone to teach me how the horse thinks and how to work with that to get the desired results in a relaxed quiet way. Also - I never saw anyone explain about letting the horse turn around to go out of the trailer head first - it makes such sense! My horse never liked backing out and having to step down while going backwards - not a natural feeling for a horse. THANK YOU for this video!

Pat you have pearls of wisdom, to me the key this time " like your waiting for a bus" I have gotten in more trouble trying to put a training in a certain amount of time. A humans time schedule is not the priority - - Yes you act like you do not care, but also know this (whatever task it is ) will get done. Best attitude. A tell my horse if we begin we will finish do not be in a hurry. Gratefully V.

I had a horse that loved trailers so much that you didn't dare leave the trailer door open when it was parked. She'd go and get inside if she could. If she was a dog, she'd have always begged to go for a ride.

Best trailer loading video I've ever seen. In most of them, the horse wasn't that worried and wasn't all that hard to load, so you don't learn much. I will say that the horse I need to work with is nervous enough that I wouldn't follow him in and stand by his shoulder like that. He could bend around to the left and mow me over trying to get out. It won't always be like that, but it is now. Obviously Pat knows this horse and can read whether it's safe to do that.

I have searched through your archives for a statement Pat made regarding when putting a halter on the horse tie the halter below the knot. If you do not it will require a knot wrench to remove. It was just a comment and finding it in the videos has not been successful. Thank you if you can identify or re-show the process. I am sure there are some innuendos regarding quality of the halter.

Pat, What do you think caused the rushing out of the trailer? I've experienced this before and I think there are places on the horse that are less confident than others.
@PatnDebPuckett
@PatnDebPuckett 3 года назад
I think a lot of people get caught up in wondering why their horses do certain things when it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is teaching the horse to walk out of the trailer without rushing. If I had to guess, the horse was allowed to rush out of a trailer and it became a habit.

I have a problem with my horse. My horse physically will not go into the arena or uphill on a trail. He is fit and use to do it all the time can anyone help?
@PatnDebPuckett
@PatnDebPuckett 3 года назад
This might be happening for one of two reasons. Either you have spent too much time in the arena doing mind numbing and repetitive exercises that the horse absolutely hates it. You’ve made him resentful and sore so he also doesn’t like going up hills. The solution for this scenario is riding outside on a loose at the trot and learning to post. Once the horse is freed up and no longer resentful, your problem should be solved. The other reason might be that your horse started refusing to go places for you in small and subtle ways until he only goes where he wants to go because you didn’t see the signs early on. The solution to that scenario is to get off and drive him into the arena or up the hill then get back on. When you get tired of getting on and off, you’ll step up, block all movements except forward ones, and get him to go where you want. Only you can determine which scenario is the correct one.
@leonlopez8097
@leonlopez8097 3 года назад
