This soundtrack is what used to remind me of what America was all about, brave pioneers, explorers, freedom and justice, now i look at America with sadness and muted horror at what it has become
This has been released on CD already - I bought it years ago. The disc shows 1998 HBO and the number CTDP095029. It only has the main theme from Michael Kamen, along with 12 1960s pop songs from the series.
If, like me, this song really gets you excited, I suggest you look into the game "Kerbal Space Program." It's essentially a giant love letter to NASA in which you run your own space program. NASA started cooperating with them to release new game content, too.
@Iranian Bob To be fair, i grew up on this program, love music, and still appreciate the KSP reference. Its a good game, nothing worth getting upset over.
"We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Because that goal will serve to organize the best of our energies and skills. Because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others too." - President John F. Kennedy, Rice University, 1962.
12 Could you imagine? First one of course.. legendary But 12 out of 7 billion. What did they see back on earth looking into the night sky. No wonder Armstrong became elusive to find. Imagine filling out a resume and just writing your name on it
In July of 1969 the first 2 men stepped on the moon after that there was 6 more missions to the moon. Apollo 17 was the last but we promised we would go back someday. It has been 55 years. Humanity has waited long enough it's time.
I really loved the images of the APOLLO mission patches in the video. I have a special connection in that I was an eye witness to one of the crashes of the "Flying Bedstead", aka the LLTV (Lunar Landing Training Vehicle). At Ellington Air Force Base in Houston Texas, on 29 January 1971, while cutting across a field to base OPS, to my amazement, I heard the piercing whine of an engine, as test vehicle LLTV-2 took off and started its flight test. I had never seen anything like it, and was suddenly fixated as it seemed to lurch out of control like a kind of a slow motion horror rollercoaster ride. Test pilot Stuart M. Present was at the controls when a failure of its primary electrical system, required Present to eject to safety as the LLTV-2 crashed in a fireball.
@rawyld That's "We choose to go to the Moon. We choose to go to the Moon...We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard." Great speech though! JFK was the President who took the space program seriously to understand it's potential for future generations.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for all of these amazing audio/video clips. Well Done.... Another message for HBO: You are missing out on soundtrack revenue....
With Will of Power you can do anything within your heart desire. My Godfather God rest his soul. Worked with NASA from APollo 1 to Apollo XVII. Wish i was there in flight control.
17 was the joint Apollo/Soyuz hookup mission. It was the last ever flight of an Apollo Spacecraft and too place in Earth Orbit in 1975 when an Apollo Spacecraft and a Soyuz Capsule met and docked using a special Adapter Module, It was essentakky a Cikd War Detente publicity stunt bur was also the first time the two Space Agencies NASA and the Soviet Space Command worked together.
