Here is my flight review for the FMS PA-18 Super Cub 1700mm EP. This is a really great flying airplane that looks good as well. It's surprisingly aerobatic and has great power but at the same time has fantastic slow flight characteristics which is really fun. Oh, and it even comes with floats which is nice if you're looking for some float flying. #SuperCub #FlyDay #ProductReview

Heck ya I just installed a 6s power plant in my Super Cub! It is a really well made airframe, I wouldn't push the flight envelope too much with it but so far the flight times are over 10 mins on 3300 6s. Great to see you review this bird, I really hope this one stays in production.

A friend of mine has one on floats. It is an awesome flyer. One of our club's top pilots can knife edge loop it!!! And that's stock configuration and on floats!

I’ve owned mine for a little over two years now. It’s the only airplane in my hangar that goes to the field every time I go. I love it! The plastics over time will crack on you so watch out for that, but other than that it’s been a rock solid flyer.

I bought the FMS kingfisher. Absolutely love that 1.4m cub. Propped it on a 12x5 master airscrew prop. More than enough power/speed to weight ratio on a 4s smart pack with zero nose weight! Still get at least 12 minute flight times! 👍

fantastic plane, I use it primarily in the winter with my jets are stored. I recently upgraded the ESC (factory one burned out) to 65amps and am now flying on 6s; which gives a lot more power and overall a better flight.

@@qqff3192 Original motor, new ESC though. The FMS ESC burned out on me while running 4s batteries, 6s would of surely smoked it. probably want to go down and inch in the prop (no 100% necessary but a good practice) as the motor would get hot!

How do you set up the down elevator with the flaps? Im trying to get this (PNP) as my first plane. What Tx/Rx should i get?? Does it require spektrum or is FlySky ok?

The pnp means that you install your own receiver, so you can use any radio system you like. On the Spektrum radio, in the flap system setup menu, there’s an elevator mix function that allows you to adjust the elevator trim with the flap actuation.

yep great plane , have mine set up with matek elrs on inav fpv and cruise the river with floats , on a 4s 5000 it cruises nicely, and for stol i put kavan 5'' air light weight tires . i always said when i fly a cub i quit rc lol but it is pretty sweet to set a flight plan and let it fly and enjoy looking around with the headtracker. added additional lights for those night flights at the river. and added a reversing esc. tow it down to the boat ramp with with my axial scx6 and back it off the trailer fpv and go for a old guy cruise a few clicks each way up and down the river

Bought this and assembled it over a year ago, but wanting to maiden now. Video is very informative, being as another I watched says the tires are air filled rubber? Mine are not, and I bought 4-s batteries, so the extra Video was helpful. Subbed

Hi Chris I have this plane , arrived last Friday from FMS Canada. I also have the Draco. Neither are built yet and of course we had another quick blizzard this afternoon so no rush to build yet. I am wondering what the slow flight characteristics of the PA-18 1700 are like and your impression of the flight stability between the Cub and the Draco. I want my grandsons to enjoy their learning experience. Not like when I taught my daughter to drive lol Cheers Bob

40% down elevator on full flaps is crazy ive never needed anything over 27% on a high wing plane with full flaps

@@Thercgeek Agreed i like to set my flap to elevator mix so when i hit the 1st position flaps to 2nd position flaps at 20% percent throttle there is no pitch up or down...That has been my rule of thumb on all my high wing planes.

@@misaelramos83 Spektrum NX-8 is a great popular radio and you wont have to upgrade it for a long time. High wing planes alway ballon up when engaging flaps so you make the Flap channel your master and your elevator your slave channel and you would start with about 22 percent down elevator mix with full down landing flaps. 1 position take off flaps you would program about 11 percent down elevator in your mix

They’re both good, but I’d recommend the 1700mm. The larger size is more fun imo.

They’re going to be similar, but the The timber is going to be a little more aerobatic overall I’d say.

If someone's been flying a Valiant without issues but is still a new flyer who flies roughly 2-3 batteries 3 times a week, do you think they could handle this plane?

Would this bird fly ok on a 3s? I've got 3s 5000mah for my RC cars, and 3s 2200mah for my RC heli's and drones - would love not to need another option of 4s on top of that (my batteries dies of ago before use since time is a little limited / too many hobbies). Would 3s with a inch larger prop work? 13*7.5 / 13 x 8?

I think it would probably work fine as it’s a pretty forgiving model and doesn’t need a lot of power to cruise around. Stepping up the prop a little should help gain back some of the lost power. Will probably do just fine with the stock prop even.

How much of an issue would it be to place a Spektrum AR630 or 631 in this? I'm fairly new to the hobby and like the idea of having SAFE there in case I need it.

Physical Installation is the same, and then there’s the added step of setting it all up in the forward programming menu. You just want to ensure the receiver is secure in the airplane so the gyro doesn’t pick up any extraneous noise from the receiver moving.

I know this vid is a little dated but, I just received one of these and when assembling it the horizontal stab and wing are not level with each other, as looking from the front or rear of the plane. I noticed at 4.59 in your video it looks like yours is the same way, lower on the right and higher on the left, looking from the rear. Questions are, did you have to add any wing weight or induce any extreme aileron trim to compensate for this? Does it have an affect at all on straight level flight that you notice? Thanks in advance and thanks for your videos, i really enjoy the painting tutorials.

Thanks! A small tilt to the tail doesn’t change things notably. This airplane flew straight from the get go.

This particular one does not. Fms has a smaller version as a ready to fly that comes with a transmitter and a battery.
