Chandler Municipal (CHD) is a medium-sized primarily general and corporate aviation airport located approximately 14 miles southeast of the larger and busier Phoenix Sky Harbor International (KPHX) Airport. Its location makes it an attractive alternative to the more congested larger airport. CHD has its own Class Delta airspace that is immediately adjacent to the Mesa-Gateway Airport located 8 miles to the east. It also underlies the KPHX Class Bravo airspace. Understanding the requirements to operate in these areas before you arrive at CHD is essential.
1:08 - The traffic mix at CHD.
1:23 - The runway configuration consists of a single set of parallel runways with staggered thresholds, labeled 4L&R/22L&R. The risk of wrong surface landings and departures exists at CHD. In particular pilots that are cleared to land on Runway 22R sometimes line up for or land on the more dominant-looking Runway 22L.
2:39 - There is a robust helicopter training community located on the field. They primarily do their pattern work utilizing taxiway Charlie on the east side of runway 4R-22L. Details to avoid conflicting with the wider and higher fixed wing traffic.
4:16 - Hot Spot 1 is located at the intersection of the approach end of runway 22R and taxiway November.
5:12 - Do not taxi on green islands.
5:48 - In the hangar area located on the southernmost end of the airport, be advised that once you turn off taxiway Alpha on either taxiways Golf or Foxtrot, your aircraft is not visible from the Tower.
To address wrong surface events where an aircraft lines up to or lands on the incorrect runway, taxiway, or airport, the FAA released Arrival Alert Notices (AAN) at various airports with a history of misalignment risk. View the CHD Arrival Alert Notice here: www.faa.gov/airports/runway_s...
The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses aircraft-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at www.faa.gov/FromTheFlightDeck

I live in Gilbert and plan on getting my private pilot license. But waiting for the hourly prices to drop to a good price again around $165 hour for duel flights

Pro-tip: don't ever expect anything in aviation to get cheaper. The best you can hope for is that prices remain stable.
