great content! Very clear exposition and very musical. Nonetheless, I think a relatively important part is missing: KiNK uses the TR-8 not only for drums, but also as a mixer. In fact, the monologue and minilogue are connected directly to the external inputs of the TR-8. This enables him to sidechain the synths with the EXT IN effect on the TR-8. I also think he uses some compression/distortion on the mix out to glue everything together and give some punch to the drums, but I am not sure how.
Brilliant video, really inspiring. I have a Maschine+, Maschine Jam, Volca Fm/Keys, my question is, what’s should I buy next, korg Minilogue Xd or Monologue ?? Thankyou
Can anyone provide a link for that actual live session which is talked about here? I found different performances of his but because I am, as you can see, a bit late on the subject, I am not sure what video is mentioned. And it is interesting for me especially because I am picking up my minilogue xd in a following week or so and I hope on buying tr-8 machine later this year. This setup looks great to me. :)
I have to say I really don't like Roland for what they are doing/not doing. took TR-8 off the market and replaced it with TR-8S. Which has all the features I don't need and is, of course, even more expensive. Gah! Another reason to go Behringer... Btw. I've watched the video until the end to see the most important part of it - but: nothing. You said KINK uses looping to arrange the sequences/sounds. Will this get explained in a second part? I knew already that my Korgs can make sounds ;-) Is there some looping software on the laptop providing the midi clock? a secret Boss 505 under the table?
couchcamper i simply mix with the volume knobs. They’re all plugged into my audio interface ... but of course if you’re playing a few instruments you need to plug them into something !!
The looping is simply the sequences on the synths looping themselves. There are no drum loops or samples to loop. Just press play and let them run. Watching him again on another video he uses the TR8 as the MIDI master with each of the synths using the clock from the Roland.I was using the MIDI from the laptop via a MIDI box as I showed near the end of this demo. So to clarify he doesn’t arrange the sequencers or loops, just plays and records it all live... all very clever :)
@@StarskyCarr well that's advanced or shall we say old fashioned, for sure :- ) do you know if he uses a mixer or any controller to mute tracks? or solo? I can't imagine doing that with only the instruments.
@@couchcamperTM He really does it all with the instruments!! If you watch closely he turns them down when changing patches, and switches the drums in and out as he plays. Occasionally he stops the drums... everything stops then he starts again. when I was putting this together I realised it's not an issue as long as you've prepared the levels of each instrument and patches in advance - so know what gain setting each of the drums should be on so once the fader is full the mix works. Same with the synths, although tweaking changes volume, its easy enough to pull it up/down. It's not actually something you focus on, as you're rehearsing and creating stuff you level it without thinking,
