Coming together with Australia in serious trouble in the fourth Ashes Test in 2006, Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds both scored 150+ to put the Aussies into a powerful position
Definitely the most complete team till date Best batsmen , best bowlers ,best all-rounders best fielders And all of them match winners Probably this team is irreplaceable
And also the commentary box which was full of legends. You could hear to people like Richie Benaud, Tony Greig and Bill Lawary. Everything was so perfect about Australian cricket.
what monsters they were, look at their height, physic and the right left hand combination. People fear the mighty tall bowlers from the west indies or Australia but batsmen like this are very rare..
Check out Haydens record that comes up onscreen at the start. At that point 88 tests, 7530 runs at 52.29. As an opener. WOW. Magnificent. Hussey was something like a 65 avge until 30 odd tests. Ponting near 60 till 100 tests coming in at number 3. Martyn 50 avge Langer near 50, etc etc etc. Was a heck of a team to choose from around this period.
They were the best mates ever. Went fishing, camping, crocodile hunting, together .. so this day was more than just saving Australia, to these 2 men, much more.
Re-watched this after Roy's death last night. Hayden and Symonds put on a party on December 27 2006. 150 in two sessions for Roy, 4 at lunch, 154 at stumps. Man of the Match performance but for Shane Warne taking a five-for in the first innings including his 700th wicket.
I’m not certain of the actual team this day but here’s a general idea from memory Hayden Langer Ponting Clarke Hussey Symonds Ghilchrist Warne Lee Gillespie McGrath.
I frankly don't know how much respect Hayden has among Aussie fans...but for the people of Chennai he is a legend...we can't forget his contributions to CSK 🦁🦁🦁
Are you kidding me... He's an absolute legend and great bloke to us Aussies. A humble man who always would rather be talking about his teammates than himself.
You kidding??? Mathew hayden will probably be an opener in a all time test 11. He was a sheer beast. Probably the best player in the aussie line up of 2000s in terms of the impact of the runs scored and the manner in which he scored runs. He was a bully with a touch of class. He used to demoralize a bowling attack right at the start of a game.
We’ve been so lucky in Australia to have so many phenomenal cricketers. The team from 1995-2007 was truly a golden era, and the teams we’ve had even in the last few years have been truly brilliant at times
This current team we have now is pretty damn good. Warner looking back in fine form, two batsman in Marnus and Smith who average over 60 which I don’t think has been done before or very rarely and now Travis Head is coming into his own and I think will be averaging 50 by the end of the summer, Cam Green who has shown he can bat last year at the SCG and now do it with the ball as he proved at the Gabba, Carey had as good as a debut as you can get for a keeper, Cummins obviously the best bowler and now captain in the world, Starc who was still a bit iffy at the Gabba, but that first ball was the stuff of dreams, Lyon looks like he can get now as he’s put the journey to 400 behind him and Hazlewood in the last two years has arguably been the best bowler in the world. Jhye Richardson coming into the team for Adelaide will be a fine replacement for Hazlewood as he’s been in just about as fine form as you can get for a bowler. In a few years with Pucovski and someone like Henry Hunt hopefully opening I think we will be without a doubt the best team in the world and one for the history books.
He may not have had the test record of Ponting or Warne but damn it Roy was my favourite cricketer. The man made every game he played in special in some fashion. Bowling, fielding and batting… he is one of the few true allrounders !
KK Matthew Hayden wasn’t included in the ODI squad from end of 2005 to 2006 champions trophy, Phil Jacques and Simon Katich were included instead of him
That Aussie team was a death squad . Victories against them were hard earned and if you do win against them then that victory would definitely get labelled as one of the greatest match of all time.
RIP Roy. 6 months later it still feels awful. Video starts showing Hayden's stats. 88 tests, 7500 runs at 52.3....against the new ball and far superior attacks to those today, on all manner of wickets all over the world. Stunning. This may have felt like the highlight of both their careers.
And Haydos had to wait 5 years to get into the team, a second time. The blue selectors had an almost total nsw team .. slatter and taylor holding matt out for those best years of his life, scoring 1000s in the shield. Given the chance, Hayden would have been rated far higher and would have had fantastic figures. And, yes, Roy is sadly missed.
To think that Hayden started his career off so shaky and then turned himself into one of the most feared opening batsmen of all time. He could make the best bowlers in the world look like amateurs. Miss watching the Big Man. Symonds was fantastic in the field, rolled the arm over well and was a solid all rounder for the Australian team. Great to look back on.
2great friends had a day to remember against the poms at Mcg I miss haydos batting will always be his fan Tons of respect to the kingaroy queensland man from India Miss u mate
hayden, punter, hussey, symo, gilly, each one a match winner. and australia had so many more match winning batsmen over that period they were leaving out guys who would've been high scorers in at any other time, it was almost unfair. then to have some of the best bowlers in the world, it was crazy.
On of my favourite teams is west indies bro but I don't know what is going on with the west indies cricket team and the fans are not attending the matches what is going in bro can you tell me
@@muthuchelvam6751 Well the team has undergone some structural changes with a new coach in Phil Simmons. This is his second stint at the job. Keiron Pollard is doing a good job as Captain with the limited overs teams. Jason Holder is trying with the test team. He is a good leader but he needs better batsmen at the top. The openers are poor, the number 3 batsman is not reliable, however, the middle and lower middle order are pretty solid. They just get exposed too early because of the top three. Our bowling attack is among the top 5 in test cricket, so that tells you that we can compete once we get our batsmen to produce the runs that we are sorely missing. As for the crowds bro, I honestly hope that one day soon when we start winning again consistently, they too will return in their numbers. Hope this was helpful bro. Take care, Muthu.
Imagine being out there with one of your best mates and just pummelling the poms in the ashes in front of 80k+ people. Surely that’s just as good as life gets. Hope you’re doing well up there Roy ❤️
That picture of Hayden and Symonds side hugging each other is one of the most iconic pictures from Test cricket. The two players at their best were beasts and that sight was just scarry
Was dying to see this partnership in good quality video !!!! Thank u so much for uploading this....... One of the most entertaining, destructive & bringing the sport alive batting pair ever !!!!!
aussies of that era were not only talented but they had the champion mentality they never gave up and always thought positive even in worst of situations , that is something which is more important than talent , there were lot of other talented players in the world at that time but none were as confident and mentally resilient as aussies ( especially players like ponting, gilchrist, hayden and symonds) . At five down most teams would have crumbled under the pressure but aussies of that era were different class in terms of mentality.
One of the two greatest cricketing sides of all time. Only a packed Windies side of the early 80's could come close. Even then, this Aussie side were tough as nails.
Holy Smoke ! Did you see the names in that batting attack. . Bowlers might have a great day out and get 5 - 6 wickets . Then you still have to deal with Symonds and Gilly . . . Wow ! ! !
Such was the quality of this Australian team. I believe this all started from 1999 world cup victory in England. At one point of time in probably 2005/06 or may be in 2007 that Australia could field 22 players who were individual match winners and had some serious talent. There was a match was wherein Australia even defeated the World XI boasting of World Class players like Lara, Pietersen, Sehwag, Akram, Shoaib, Murali, Vaas, Pollock and many more.
