To be honest most Australians hate it! They prefer the old days of Richie Benaud and Alan McGillvray where the commentary is more mellow and understated. Harsha Bhogle is really popular too when the Indians visit.
Plenty of other bowlers took more wickets, and few others were even faster than him. But Johnson is the only bowler I can think of who made such an impact on me in a series. That combination of fierce attitude, crowd support, speed, and wicket taking ability made him electrifying to watch and probably terrifying to face.
It's interesting because Johnson wasn't consistently this fast over his entire career. In this series he was red hot but 2 years prior he was bowling mid 130s.
I'm 52, I've watched Aussie quicks from Lillee to Cummins and Mitch Johnson is my favourite. His mongrel was exactly what Australia needed after the loss of Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Martyn, Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, Lee in a short period of time. On song he was beautiful to watch.
English and Aussie fans are so passionate about their cricket. I kept a keen eye on this ashes series. Very thrilling. Showing some love from Jamaica ♥️💚💛
Everyone knows he's good, but hes not a good bloke. So he's hard to give credit to with his massive ego, unlike the other legends of recent times, Gilchrist, Ponting etc.
@@Weisyyy He was an absolutely fantastic captain in my view, but we didn't like him. Not entirely unwarranted, but I am biased towards Aries. He still has that, arguably, punchable goodness.
@@craigedwards2940problem was he was a bit expensive when he was under pointing, i think under Clarke he improved on his game. But hey that is just my opinion
@@craigedwards2940No, he’s right. Clarke and Johnson worked out a new system where he wouldn’t open with him and would bring him on for short spells as a strike bowler to keep his pace up. It worked.
In that series down under, Ryan Harris-Mitch Johnson duo ended the Test careers of Kevin Pietersen, Micheal Carberry, Jonathan Trott and Matt prior.....
Thank Dennis Lillee. Johnson trained under Lillee during the preceding Australian winter and got his mojo back. Line, length, swing and control he hadn't had before, while still maintaining good pace and hostility. I think "Fot" may have also given him some tips on the care and maintenance of a moustache, lol.
Accurate analysis. DKL turned Johnno around. And that mo...look up the online image of Fred "the Demon" Spofforth and tell me Johnno isn't his reincarnation. Look at the Demon's record too...
Those few months in early 2014, the Ashes and the test series in South Africa (Destroyed my boys) Johnson was ethereal and absolutely terrifying. It was awesome seeing batsman scared and requiring regular underwear changes again after decades of flat tracks and short boundaries. Brought back memories of the 80s and early 90s.
@SyphorX I only find Indian crowds are terrible. They cheered hard for their team but will never appreciated the opposition. Just look at Australia vs India T20 at Bangaluru, once Kaul almost finish his 3rd over they already left.
In tv , when I see indian crowds they can't see others team good performance. if the opponent team' s has done century atleast they should clap their hands that also they don't do but England crowds does that 😊 and other team also expect India
@SyphorX what u meant to say that Australia crowds give sledges others 😳 my comment is based on Australia but I don't tell wrong things any player of any team
Johnson was fearsome in this series. 145-150km/h thunderbolts with deadly accuracy. One of the best Ashes series to watch, every one of his overs brought fear to the poms.
Kp is not salty enough to dispike,he acknowledges Johnson, and moreover only in this series did Johnson actually not get smashed by kp,in any other series,kp absolutely dominated Aussie bowlers
Their career is far bigger than that kid Johnson. Only 1 good ashes that's also at home. You know Cook, KP, Trott & Anderson destroyed Johnson several times in 2009, 10-11, 13 & 15 Ashes ? Then he took retire early🤣
There was a time when Johnson suffered a bad injury and was out for over a year and almost everyone thought he wouldn't be able to bowl as fast as he used to but when he came back from thereon he went on to become the Mitchell Johnson the one we remember.
@@Amaan_Zargar And the same bowling attack couldn't take enough wickets to atleast bowl out their opponent in the following test matches. Well yes that's wht you call as a destruction👏👏👏
@@Amaan_Zargar here im talking abt test series,if they had bowled india out completely then the match which ended in a draw (3rd test match) would also been won by Aus...but eventually they ended losing the series....
Ashes 2005(summer) in England and Ashes 2013(winter) in Australia were the Best in all respects ... The Crowd ... The Commentary And The Battle between 2 teams ... Greatest ever🙏🙏🔥🔥
A fast bowler like him or Shoaib Akhtar are always a pleasure to watch. More than pace, I enjoy their intent and the go for kill attitude. Don’t recall any recent fast bowlers having the same intent and scaring batsmen. From India, I can only think of Zaheer Khan. He didn’t have same amount of pace but the fearless attitude and go for kill intent was always a treat to watch. That’s what you call someone a bowler.
@@strikerbowls791 , is their anything left to destroy know ??😂😂😂 , Even indian C team destroyed u in ur backyard , but irony is that u can't defend urself by Speaking about the absence of smith and Warner😂😂
Johnson was at his potent best in the 2013 ashes. Finished the career of Trott, Carberry, Swann, Pietersen, Strauss and Ians Bell in a single series. Never saw this kind of lethal in the 80s windies bowling pack too. The fear he caused, you can see it the Batsmen's eyes. Sadly, he was mostly inconsistent throughout his career. If he were not, fast bowling would have a modern great
One thing I have understood : in Aus you need to have good reflexes to face high pace and bounce (apart from having a good technique) and no team except India (and SA between 2008-2014) have more than 3-4 batsmen in the same lineup with that capability (Eng in 2010-11 also had that ability). Indian batsmen in 2011-12 series were old and had lost their reflexes and got hammered 4-0. Otherwise they (and SA between 2008-2014) are the only teams who have done well in more than 1 tour to Aus.
This Clarke-Hussey-Haddin-Johnson team was unlucky. Despite having many world class players they were sandwiched between two much greater eras of Australian cricket. They will never be remembered so fondly. Ponting's invincibles and Smith/Cummins' gentlemen. These will be remembered!
@@madhavanulaganathan relax dude.....i m also an indian and happy for team india but this is not the way we represent our country.....be like RAHANE not Tim paine!.
I remember the days when Johnson and Starc used to destroy opponents batting order by lots of yorker and bouncer they were complete bowling couple which someone can have I love those day
I've watched cricket for 50 years and Johnson that series was something else. And for mine it completely came out of the blue. I must admit id written him off as being a consistent bowler, but wow, that was some scary stuff, completely destroyed a number of English careers.
Well many of these were not wicket taking deliveries, many were going down leg side but johnson had made such a scare with his furious spell among these english batsman that they were bound to do mistakes. One of the best exhibition of fast bowling I have ever seen in any series.
I think Trott was damaged. But its a stretch to say his England career was ended by Johnson, as he played more test matches. Nobody else comes close to fitting the bill@@bomberwarren
