Your team is down and out. You're opening the innings and go at run a ball, against the world's best team, against the world's best bowlers in their den. And you end up scoring 167. Only a Very Very Special man can do that.
@@baqir560 not really. Who’s average is better in test cricket, go search it up. Mohammad Yusuf averages 52. Laxman averages around 46. I’m not saying that Laxman was a bad player, I’m saying that both were very good players.
I still remember when India has been thrashed by Aussies in the first two tests, Captain Sachin said to media "look our team is very inexprienced ,look at vvs Laxman he is very inexprienced,he pointed Laxman's name, in the very next match Laxman played this gem, To me this is the best innings by an Indian in Australia.
I was shocked to see the stats of this match. India scored just 261 in this inning. Out of which 167 was contributed by Laxman. Really a classy batting from a new comers prospective.
Magician with his wrists, his stats doesn’t justify his talent. Most of the time in his career he had to play with lower order or tail, if he was sent up the order may be his stats would’ve been better. But watching him play was an absolute treat.
Not exactly....Even his stats are impressive 8781 runs @ average of ~ 46 ...n that too when u bat with tailenders most of the time.....A man without whom some of greatest wins were not possible.....However, only God knows what would have been the case had he batted at 1 down ( his preferred position) ....We had the Wall at 1 down, God at 2 down,Lord of offside at 3 down, so a player of VVS's genius had to bat at 4 down....
Lazy elegance , his shots were like a poem, a flowing stream, calm but serene..his off drives, his wrists ..my my..one of India’s biggest test match winners ever..very very special!
The reason why VVS is a legend is because he thrived in adverse conditions: The more difficult the conditions, the better he played; this innings he played in conditions made for Lee, Warne, and McGrath and looked like the local. So when enthusiasts start that tedious conversation about averages in different eras comparing Kohli, Smith, Warner et al., to Bradman, Sobers et al., I remind them VVS averaged painfully shy of 46 and those young gents do not come close to him.
a highly underrated player never got enough opportunities to play ODI's one of the very few players who have played more than 100 tests but never played world cup!
he didnt make a place in ODI due to his fielding & his slow batting from 2004 onwards it cost India & hampered his prospects , But in test he was the best
He played 86 odis other people were just cementing the place , he was more known for test match skills beyond 2004 his game hampered india in ODIS more over his fielding wasnt upto the mark his drop catches cost india very badly in TVS victor cup and i still remember him Diving to catch kirsten in the 2001 tri series final would have been a sitter for Sewag !!!!!
Sweet enchanting sound that comes out when the leather touches his willow is probably the most gratifying sound for a cricket lover's ear.his wristy strokeplay like an elegant artwork of master craftman is equally magnificent and a treat for eyes. Take a bow Mr.Very very special of cricket.
All the time I love watching Ganguly,Sachin,Dravid and Laxman's batting in the late 90s and early 2000s ❤️ They are beyond comparison They all are living legends for a reason 🔥❤️ Love and respect from Bangladesh 🇧🇩❤️
One of the most stylish batsman, a legend of the golden era of cricket.A brilliant person on/off the field. on the same league as Sachin, Ganguly and Rahul. And most importantly a nightmare for Australia(best cricket team of that era). India has not yet found a replacement for him sadly.
A stylish courageous player who matched the flamboyant flair of Mark Waugh matched with an incredible 👏 defensive capabilities, that is what made him versatile...
Amazing batting - it would have been good to have included the shot of Brett Lee calling to him and applauding his innings after he got out. Good spirit of cricket there
Everybody hits the ball so hard, cruelty, and revenge. Only VVS hits the ball with love and carves every shot beautifully which is above class all I can say. If you watch beautiful gal and we will see them again n again. lly, VVS Laxman’s shots and damn they are such beautiful.
Laxman had made miserable the life of an entire generation of Aussie bowlers which includes McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, Johnson etc. Its the Aggression in its purest form.. Whenever he was down on form, an Aussie invite took care of everything. The Very Very Special..!
Laxman is one of most technically sound batsman one can see in world cricket. Very talented, gifted player. I feel he didn't do justice to his enormous talent!!!
Debut Hundred against this sorta attack is no joke. VVS was not blessed with the athleticism, the strength, but none of that seemed to matter when he was batting because he was blessed with magical wrists and his sense of timing.
When you are tall like VVS or KP you always have the chance to play those cover drives with elegance and power to any outswinger because of long legs and long extension of arms. I love his batting more than his Hindi.
On that era.. When fab Four were there boundaries were very long.. V tough to reach to boundary.. With so many slips loved to watching cricket those days
Such a stylish batsmen really played well against australia many times and he played 132 test matches the greatness of laxman was even though he is having a chance to play for another 20 to 30 test matches he retired and given chance for another batsmen and for his talent he would have played 175 above test matches very easily and he played well in odis also many match winning games
Most of his innings resulted in India's victory or in saving the game. But unfortunately they went unnoticed. My kudos to Very Very Spectacular Lovable Laxman.
One of the best to ever come to Australia. In my opinion he is underrated compared to his contemporaries. As good as Tendulkar and as pleasing to watch as any I’ve seen.
