Russell Reilly I’m pretty sure Punter had a higher winning streak as captain with his Golden Eleven then Bradman’s Invincibles. There’s no doubt though that Bradman is the best batsman ever.
@@psnayak4314 Cmmentators often brought up Viv Richards similarity when Ponting played pull shots. Both didn't care for the helmet too much when playing them too
@@ssk58607 started off so well but like many other Indian bowlers from around that time, their progress stagnated and they did not develop as the current crop of quickies are doing. Thankfully BCCI have sort outside counsel on fast bowling from coaches, existing cricket greats and invested into facilities to develop and harness the talent coming through. Huge opportunity has always been there for quality fast bowlers. Notice how NZ, Australia and co are ALWAYS competitive no matter the pitch, no matter how bad the team may be in team cycle because of their fast bowlers and fielding.
Other then The Don, this man is the best batsman that Australia has produced. He was absolute class. I remember watching him countless times on the tv as a kid he was the reason i played cricket as a youngster. Ricky Ponting you are one in a million.
Myself Ayan, Indian, understood the cricket matches from 1999. Since I started to watch cricket, always support the aussie. R.ponting is one of my favourite batsman, captain and also a greatest fielder. No one as him, in past, present and future. I also respect all Australian cricketers. They prove that they are the world champion... Sachin Tendulkar, M.S.Dhoni are also legend from our country...
@@keppyf4829 do people even have Bradman and everyone else in the same conversation any more? I think it's pretty obvious he's the greatest but whenever someone calls someone else the greatest it's usually exclusive Bradman that's how good he was
In this series Sehwag 195, Ponting 257, 242, Dravid 230, 91, 93, Sachin 241 were into runs like never before. They were at peak. McGrath and Warne were away and Agarkar, Nehra, Zaheer bowled short. By the last test at SCG Aussies were saving test match... 2007-08 Dhoni era , Ishan Sharma outfoxed Ponting like none could.
Why his record as captain dropped after 2007?When you have players like Gilchrist,Warne,McGrath,Hayden,Gillespi,Lee,Langer your skills as a captain hardly get tasted.
Ian Chappell made the point and he's right - leadership, not captaincy. Anyone who can play a bit could be a captain. Knowing how to control however many other people, that's leadership. Imran Khan was an example of that, as was Chappell, Ravi Shastri, Mark Taylor.
He was in top form here.. had cricket coaches trying to teach his technique to us batsmen.. not possible. He was unique. Ruthless on anything short of a length..
Possibly the most aggressive and confident puller in the game ever. He aways backed his eye/hand coordination on the front foot. He must have had incredible eyesight
Joy Roy Bullshit. Stop pulling useless stats out of your ass to try and undermine Bradman, his scores say it all. If Ponting played as good as him he would have an average of 100
@Joy Roy it's one of those arguments where there is no wrong answer. The reality is that the Don has the superior batting average. But he had fewer opponents and they didn't have video analysis back then to find weaknesses in your game like they did in Ponting's era. So if he had to play more games against more opponents more frequently, could he have maintained the same high standard? Probably not. Ponting was a better fielder for sure and his tactical nous as Captain was better in my opinion. So I would say he's a more complete player but not as great a batter individually. But that's just my opinion. So why not just settle it with they both were the greatest Australian batters of their time?
Australia won WC 3 times in a row. Present Indian dhoni kohli fans should remember that . Even to this day Aussie cricket is a mountain in front of us.
@@katurivivek My wife is Indian, from Kerala. This innings, and the obvious passion both teams had for the game, turned her into a 100% cricket fan. Thank you, cricket, Punter and India. My summers are so much more fun now! She's a great cook too. Winner all the way, this lad is!
Besides, most of the ponting runs and centuries came post 2003-05. A time when almost all the greatest bowlers from other teams had retired … India didn’t even had permanent 3 fast bowlers.
Followed his 242 at Adelaide with a career best of 257 here... what a run fest that series was with India in the end managing to retain the Border-Gavaskar... It was probably Ganguly’s 144 at Brisbane that set the tone for India and Dravid turned out to be a star for India yet again in an overseas test series. With the series being contested till the very last day of the 4th test... arguably this was the most keenly contested India-Australia test series.
By far the best batsman than anyone in the modern era and a successful captain too. 4 odi world cup finals in a row, 3 WC wins, two as a captain. Demolished England in ashes many times. Heck of a test record. Take a bow sir. 🙌

Ricky pointing was really Nemesis of India His 40% glourious innings comes against India 140 in 2003 final 242 in Adelaide 2003 221 in Adelaide 2012 N many other centuries etc
Yes India were in a dominant position. Australia had neither Warne or Mcgrath the entire series, and Bret Lee joined the fray and jolted the Indian batting lineup. Great match with two great innings by Sehwag and Ponting.
My favourite batsman as right hand batsman not like over hype tendulkar when you got bad form you gonna leave your favourite shot (cover drive),in cricket language he was slapping every world class bowler (pull or hook)shot ,Lara’s late cut and for spinners against the spin and that dancing down the pitch kallis cover drive ,dravids defence, ponting pull sangakkara straight drive and tendulkar s leg glance or paddle sweep .
even if you will look ...at 29 virat had 5400 test runs with 20 test hundreds ..remarkable similarity ...virat's innings played was less i guess 106 ..ricky's 119 .... i guess virat will play till 40 in test matches and achieve what ricky couldn't either break sachin's 15921 test runs record ..... and also 51 test hundreds record .....
