Wow, impressive display of your movie making skills. What many fail to do in a short is tell a story with beginning, middle and most importantly an ending that makes sense and connects emotionally with the audience. Loved the ending and it broke my expectation where I thought someone would die. Beautiful ending that is both emotional and true. Keep going Gearmark.

@@pantarei8382 So a bad prop automatically makes the film junk? A bit narrow-minded. It is not the look and appearance of a film that should define how good it is, but the quality of the storytelling.

"The Mercy of my enemy"makes me often question war, question why they sent us here, and what it is we're fighting for Over me the constant sky, over him the constant stars we share an insignificance, beneath the bloodshot eyes of Mars Perhaps we'll make it back to home, silent `neath the coffin flag and of our great heroic deeds the glib elite will boast and brag As he makes a slow retreat the bitter thought won't leave my head If leaders were to have their way, we would both be honored dead Flying Paladin 13 Jan 18

Not only were they stupidly large, but they were obviously incredibly light compared to real weapons... E.g. when the orc throws the sword on the ground and it bounces...
@aknightthatsaysnee5259

What got me was that the sword had three levels of angry: 1st level: enemy; 2nd level: mad at enemy; 3rd level: REALLY mad at enemy. Why not just go to level 3 right away? You have more energy and a finish is more likely.

So much work into this, and it looks like something out of the 80s that you rewatch to see how far we've come. that is the bad part.. the amazing part? The part that I whole heatedly encourage? The is an example of potential. You guys are putting good use to skills that will only get better, and if it has an ounce of story this vid had it will all be amazing if for the hard critique I've offered.
@editedcopycat9939
@editedcopycat9939 5 лет назад
Just stumbled onto this vid the other day, and for a 9-10 minute film, I found this very endearing. To have someone in a situation as intense as a battlefield and coming to the realization that your enemies are just as human as you are is tricky to pull off without being too in your face about it, and I think you guys did a good job at it. (at least in my smol opinion anyway) The only thing that made me cringe was the weapons, especially the sword. The way that it was textured made it look like it was carved out of stone rather than steel. Plus the size made it look very clunky and maybe somewhat hard to maneuver in a fight. (but maybe that's just my own bias, I just like practical weapons) Either way, I enjoyed myself with this lil gem, keep up the good work!

WOW! Gearmark this was different but just as good. The ending, thats what really got me. After the orc puts on the necklace i thought he was gonna kill the soldier and it would be over. I was thinking i was gonna comment how i thought this ending implied that the orc himself had a lover and maybe like connected with the soldier in a way lol. Anyway you actually did it! When the monster pulled out his necklace i was just stunned, like i was literally just thinking what his necklace or other accessory looked like and then my thoughts became real. So yea thought that was kinda cool, maybe i can tell the future :P. Another great video gearmark and i was sure the orc was 3d but then there was a actor for him so guess i get to see that interesting bit in the BTS.

The other problem with the sword was it took him getting mad, to change it to what looked like lava filled lol. Then only when he was furious, did it turn into the cutting power of a light saber and the color blue. Last problem with sword, was the user. He pulled the sword during an attack, like pulling a punch. He didn't make it look heavy as it was obviously supposed to look, except on 2-3 swings lol. And the only time he followed thru on a swing, was on his final attack, which showed

What a blast that was to watch! :-) my only neg on it is that the weapons had no sound effects when they needed them! And The combat seemed a lil flighty like they weren't trying to hide the fact that their weapons were made out of cardboard and styrofoam or something but some good sound effects would have went the extra mile, imo! Thanks for the feedback! Good to know when things look / come across that way as it helps us develop an eye for it. Very impressive, good visuals, and good props, although I did find it slightly confusing, not extremely, but kind of “who is this” “what are they” “what position are they in this war” “why is there a war” “when does this take place” “where did these monsters come from” and “does the war chief understand what the guy is saying” these are things I thought while watching, and I believe should be explained a little more, but overall it was very good. Now I try not to go super nerdy and and huge critic when it comes to swords and armor, because I know it’s fantasy, and people don’t like when I do it, but as far as swords and weapons go, I’ll break it into sections. The sword is to big, it would be to heavy to lift and swing, the weirder could have super strength, but imagine if they had a smaller blade, and how quickly they could swing that alternatively, the best way to hit someone is to pick it up vertically and then drop it one their head, but by the time you do that, they simply won’t be there anymore, and since it’s big, it will just get int the way, blocking your own vision and not being much help at all. Second thought is about it’s thickness, and as thick as it is, that will sooner beat someone to death than cut them, because of surface tension, if something is spread in a small area but with a big punch to it, it will puncture, that’s why bullets work the way they do, or if you’ve seen it, that’s what Wasp was explaining to Ant-man in the 2016 movie, but if something is spread out, it won’t cut, that’s why people can lay on swords, but if you remove even one of them, they will feel it...and by feel it o of course mean they will be cut by them. Also the sword seems to be made of stone, not something like steel or iron, which stone of course doesn’t make for a good material for making swords with, since swords need to bend, and stone doesn’t. Although it might not be made of stone, that’s just what it looked like to me. The armor looks pretty good, although the shoulder pads are a tad to big, and their arms and legs are unprotected, as well as a lack of helmet, those are some pretty important things to protect, since they are well...your head, and no fight will end well if you don’t have arms or legs. Now I know that Orcs are supposed to be rugged, tough, and primitive, but going to battle naked isn’t a good idea either, I would suggest either clothes or Gambeson, which is a folded cloth material worn along with chain mail, that has the defensive ability to stop arrows, or chain mail as well could be a good idea, since they are pretty primitive, worn as early as 4th century BC, so I believe that even an Orc could figure how to make either of those kinds of armor. Now o know it is a fantasy, and it was extremely well made, and I’m sorry if you thought I was rude, I just like to critique this sort of thing, and I’m kind of a nerd about this sort of thing, it congratulations on a very successful film, I don’t remember the exact amount of likes, but it was quite the large amount, and the CGI was very impressive, good job mates, and I will provoke y watch more of your films, and I will try not to rant about them as much as this one. :) ~Sir Ocelot

Its a great short film but I don't know if it's just me but it gives off vibes of world of Warcraft mixed with warhammer with a little of the Nemesis system from Shadow of war. The human feels like a mix of Alexandros Mograine wielding ashbringer in wow and the human Emperor Karl Franz in warhammer. The orc feels like a mix of doomhammer from wow and the orc overboss Grimgor Ironhide from warhammer. Ps. The hammer the orc used looked like a bigger spiked doomhammer.

Very impressive people!!! Excellent. My only problem was the sword. Looked and sounded like styrofoam, wrapped in cardboard, wrapped in really thin spray painted black, old rusty tin. The other pron

Short Film Review: Overall: I found the concept and the idea of the story enjoyable. Everything was clear. Something I really commend you on is the makeup. It is clear you guys have a good makeup crew (however many people that maybe) working alongside you. I will have to check this channel out for more recent videos to see how things have progressed for you. Though, like any good film, there are a few notes that stand out for improvement. Though, considering how old this is, I am sure much of this has changed. 1. The Dialogue: While I give you credit for the dialogue being clear, a few bits of it felt jarring. The biggest failure I believe comes in the cast who acted in the film, as I just was not feeling the same emotion the dialogue would suggest. A notable moment would be between our heroic knight and his (I assume) wife. I know and understand what the scene was meant to do, but I was not feeling it from the actors. This was my biggest letdown. 2. On a less than notable note, the knight's sword and it's magic. The sword looks like stone but I am not going to rant much on that. A prop is a prop. My only confusion with this weapon was that I had no idea why it was glowing or what that glow did. In either case. The best assumption I have is that it sharpened a rather blunt blade to be more effective, but beyond this, I really have no idea why it was glowing, what made it glow, and what the intent was. I could sit here and guess it was magic but was it him using a spell? Was it some divine power be channeled from a god/goddess he is devoted too? This left me confused and I really had no idea what importance it played to the story. I think I see the orcs hammer do something too but I am not sure, it glowed for what appeared to be a moment and that was it. Overall, I give it an 8/10. Regardless of its few shortcomings, the quality of the writing, in general, impresses me and this is where I see a lot of shorts fail hard.
