Irregardless, of first world or third world. The quality of life is very important. So what, you are in the first world. If 90% have to work like a slave and serve the master like a dog. Even going through nightmare, you have to say it is wonderful life. Ask yourself, before you choose to be in one. To be able to sustain in the first world you need to stay to be sustainable all the while. Which is going to be more difficult to attain as you go along. If not it is going to a free fall. In Singapore it is going to be very very difficult with the situation we are in and the new generation that is try to rely foreigners. That is trying to strive rich and dissapear to the next pasture when they fail.

Not so fast. Singaporeans only have First World per capita GDP, infrastructure and cost if living. They do NOT have First World wages, productivity, work quality and standard of living. Where is the Swiss Standard of Living?

Singapore First World? Really? Where is the Swiss Standard of Living? Singapore is First World only in terms of per capita GDP and COST of living. It is NOT in terms of real wages, productivity, work quality and standard of living because Lee Kuan Yew focused on the wrong KPI, annual GDP growth instead of productivity. Sustained productivity growth is the only way to achieve real wage growth and a higher standard of living. Sadly, he followed the "soft option". Increasing productivity is not easy because it requires well-educated citizens. LKY and his party limited to a small minority the percentage of each cohort that can have a local university education - LKY's 2nd biggest blunder. He believed he can "pick-the-winner" and accumulate reserves. LKY did not invest enough on Singaporeans - the only asset of Singapore. Singapore needs more local graduates even if they are a threat to the ruling party's political dominance. Singapore has massive reserves and perennial Budget surpluses but it cannot buy time. It does not have global companies like Taiwan and South Korea which have Samsung, Hyundai, Asus, Kia, TSMC, etc. Singapore only has an over-hyped airline and airport. LKY's biggest blunder is likely self-confidence amounting. He thought he knew everything and did not allow dissent. He got things done but not the right things. He gave Singapore first class infrastructure instead of First World citizens. Singapore needs regime change.
