From working with Amazon in America to setting up multiple businesses in Ghana
In the mid-1950s, there began a new era in which African Americans began to migrate to Ghana as a result of its independence. African Americans, especially civil rights activists such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Julian Bond, went to Ghana to aid the country's development and escape the racism of the United States.
In this video I share with you the story of Joshua who moved from the USA to Ghana. He has started a number of businesses in Ghana; a cleaning business, a salon, a barbershop and a bar / restaurant. Today he shares his story about the move to Ghana, the challenges he has experienced in running a business in Ghana as well as the perks of living in Ghana.
0:00 Intro
1:33 How did you end up in Ghana
2:34 Was that you fist time away from your parents
3:13 How long were you in America for
5:59 How long has your cleaning business bee running for

My name is Jasmine and I have relocated from Sydney Australia to Ghana in west Africa as of the year 2020.
My parents are of Ghanaian descent and so am I although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what it’s like to live in Ghana, from the Ghanaian food, to the Ghanaian culture, to the Ghanaian lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and help inspire to explore Ghana.
My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.

This guy understands very well the American concept of keeping prices down to attract a larger customer base. Ghanaians on the other hand increase their prices with attainment of a larger customer base and that’s foolishness at its zenith

It's crazy It doesn't make sense to charge exorbitant prices just to attract a few well paying customers & not get a full house. From hotels to restaurants & other businesses. I don't know whether it's greed or bad cultural practices. Why charge someone a year or two years rent while ignoring inflation rise in the future.

Never heard of such a heartless thing to do from citizens in Tema or Ghana capital Accra where tourists come in their airport. Then many businesses are not properly licensed by Ghana Revenue Authority so the citizens lack in revenues for better infrastructure, sanitation waste removal. So when does educating the seniors to train their children going to start. How much does the church help with this 1,000 , 1,000’s of building , new structures being constructed for these preaching pastor, bishops and the muslins. All that church going , dancing, shouting Jesus, Allah for hundreds of years and to see youngsters in their 20 ish & up to 40 ish years of age create a eco friendly environment to feed their babies. Amazing circle. Ancient ancestors turning in their graves in shame of colonization of her children today characterization as single church goers still starving. May our ancestors bring the babies food in justice, peace.

You just have to budget for a good school for the kids, a nice place to live in and some money on the side to fun the kids lifestyle. Don’t expect them to easily adapt to the Ghana lifestyle. They may adapt to playing with other kids but food and amenities you will still need to maintain a descent standard of living for them to match up a little to what they are used to having abroad. Stayed in Ghana with my daughter for a year for her first time being in Africa. She copped very well with friends and education but still wanted to live her life like a true American kid visiting American fast food and top restaurants with amusement parks. God help you!

This what helping people in Ghana is all about… individuals establishing their own jobs the right way. Loved this video your content is by far the best on RU-vid. I'd be really interested in a video exploring maybe a family with a SEN child. Sen stands for special educational needs for anyone who doesn't know. It would be interesting to see how they manage the child's needs/disability with perhaps limited resources etc. Just a idea. I am half Ghanian,half Jamaican I live in Sussex (UK)and have 2 children. Initially the plan was to move to Ghana when my daughters completes boarding school at age 18. However my toddler has autism and this has totally made me rethink and decide against a move to Ghana as with no national health care and only 1 school for children with autism I worry that my son wouldn't recieve the support he deserves. I'd love to see a video on a family with children with additional needs one-day if possible. Ps you look great Jasmine.

I really love the info, I’m just curious as to how all of the bureaucracy will effect the long term level of difficulty in starting and maintaining a business in Ghana, my idea to escape the bureaucracy of the US is to deal with less hassle if I decide to leave, but with every interview I see about the diasporas; we’re adding problem on top of problem for ourselves and other poor Ghanaians who don’t have the resources to pay for all of the licenses, “alliances”, and hush money I’m sure… the ideas of the west will ruin the diaspora as fast as it’s growing if we don’t create a different honor system and formulate some type of common ground with the people who are already there, to not create culture shock for both sides.

There is no country that can run without regulations. Governments need to license business so owners and customers know the MINIMUM STANDARD OF SERVICE to provide/expect when money is passed. Joshua talked about his associates ( family and friends) scouting out locations for him to set up business. I didn't hear him engaging in bribes or other underhanded practices. If Joshua paid associates, then it's for work that they have done. No one in Ghana should be working for free. Citizens are taught good ethics at home and religious training. The government should enforce the law by fines and/ or confinement in prison.
@raydrew201
@raydrew201 Год назад
@@karleinegraham446 the term free trade was made because trade used to be free, there is regulation and there is over regulation, what the world had descended into is over regulation and we have the data now to prove that it is not good for free trade, look at how their ruining the tomato market in ghana, leaving thousands of people poor and causing farmers to leave the country because the big canned tomato companies on the world markets are blocking ghanas fresh tomatoes from entering the market place, ghana had a bustling tomato market after winning independence, but now has factories sitting dead due to over retaliation, I am not for politics like this, people aren’t given choices, choices are being provided. Now ghana themselves, with Rich soil is being forced to eat canned tomatoes from other countries, with deadly preservatives. So I disagree with the premise that government is there with the intent to oversee good practices, history teaches us that they only pick who lines their pockets best. Since people are taught good practices in churches and at home, that’s who should regulate free trade the most, according to your logic.

Minimum wage in Ghana is $1 a day? That is so unfortunate! I understand now why locals try to upcharge foreigners. In their minds, those of us from America are indeed rich. I would love to come to Ghana and start a business, just for the sake of giving back. At MINIMUM I would pay workers U.S minimum wage, which is $7.25 an hour.

Good intention, very welcome, just that the market is not as big as in the US and in effect the returns. Of course unless you intend serving the international market or operate in industries that pay international rates for goods/services. That said, running an efficient system can help. Good luck on your journey.

Bro! They saw you coming. The POS System was too expensive. You can get the same full compete touchscreen POS system with cash drawer, printer and software all for 4000 GHANA CEDIS not dollars.
