The band's name is a combination of the word "Front", which is the same in many languages and "242" refers to UN Resolution which renounces war. The band started in 1981. Their first video was shot in 1982 for the song "U-Men". It was done on a small budget and filmed in Daniel Bressanutti's bedroom. Because of their military appearance and use of war movie clips in their shows, the Belgian music press saw them as a pro-fascist group. In 1983, Luc van Acker joined the band and Richard 23 joined in 1984. In 1984, Al Jourgensen of Ministry signed them up to Wax Trax and had them as an opener for Ministry. They also joined forces and created The Revolting Cocks.
