For reference, the two caliper nuts need to be tightened to 95 Nm or 70 lb-ft

Good video bro, just be safe placing your legs under the rotor while the cars up in the air. I usually place an old tire/tim under just in case. Maybe I watch too much final destination!

I will most likely change my breaks on my own as well just because it is a simple job. And I can make sure I clean the caliper as well. Mine are squealing like a stuck pig now after 15k miles

Yes the squeaking is so annoying, i ended up selling the car for a few reasons, that was definitely one of them. They still squeaked with the ebc yellow pads. I hear the carbo tech ones are the quietest

My G80 oem pads have been squealing like crazy since car was new. After 6,000 miles of ownership, I discovered -- the brake squeal completely disappears -- after pressure washing the front and rear rotors/pads for a few mins per corner...be sure to concentrate the nozzle where the pad mates with the rotor. Blowing out the rotors/pads with pressurized air every few weeks could help too (Results may vary.) My theory is the oem pads are very aggressive, they wear quickly due to the cross-drilled rotors, the accelerated dust build-up of metal particles (from the rotor) fills in the grooves of the pads, and the iron deposits rubbing against the rotors cause the screeching.

U gotta go 80 90 and hit the breaks hard and repeat the process then the rust and squeal will go a way for a bit

so a couple of questions: 1. Why did you switch pads? Noise, dust or performance. 2. Please confirm you had jack stands underneath the car and not just the jack? 3. What other brake pads did you consider? 4. How many miles on the OEM pads? Thanks for your response.
@FLManGarage
@FLManGarage Месяц назад
1. I switched pads 90% for noise 10% for dust 2. Yes definitely had jack stands, just couldn’t see from the camera angle 😃 3. I originally wanted ebc red stuff bc i heard they had less dust and noise than yellow stuff. These pads still squealed really bad. I hear the carbo tech brake pads are the only ones that are actually quiet 4. I had right around 300 miles on the oem pads Thanks for your comment! I hope this helps!

I'd strongly advise against putting grease on the edges of the backplate. If any of that migrates onto the disc you'll contaminate the pads and that can lead to all sorts of problems: judder, noise, you name it. You should never need grease on the sides of any backplate, and especially not on a brand new vehicle such as this where everything will slide perfectly well and does not need 'lubrication'.
@everett333
@everett333 Год назад
I assure you that if you reset the pistons even a little, the pads would be easier to align the pins instead of prying on them with a flat head. I understand you said the original pads were like new but resetting the pistons would make it a breeze and less chance of damaging pad material

@@berzerker4998 good question, safe to just press them in, like in a single piston 335i caliper? Maybe use the old pads as the pressure plate...

video was good but u skipped the whole plate pressing against the back of the pads at the end. If that clip not line up correctly the caliper presses against the clip causing the brakes to not work and feel like air in the system . Happen to me i bled 10 times and and abs flus and couldnt figure it out until i checked the calipers for leaks and saw the clip bent

can you elaborate more? what timestamp part should he have started explaining it? I can see at 4:09 it's not fully resting against the caliper, is that what you're talking about?

I have a G80 and the brakes drive me absolutely crazy. The constant squealing is insane. Why did you decide on the yellow stuff pads and do you still have no squealing after a month or so? Do your new pads create less dust? Thanks for the videos.
@FLManGarage
@FLManGarage Год назад
Yess the squeal is so bad for oem. I went with yellowstuff as there are not many options available yet and i read good things on the forums. These new pads still squeaked like crazy for the first 500 miles. Now they are much quieter than oem. Still squeal occasionally. I hear carbo techs are better with the least dust and noise. But more expensive. These pads id say are 70% better in the noise category. Maybe 40% better in dust category. They still produce a lot of dust. However, they do provide more braking power compared to oem, if that is important to you
