Awesome video Pontiac engineers did not design the front bumper and grills to go on easy I would recommend to people who are not familiar with this to put together before paint for practice John is a pro this video is a perfect demonstration thank you John!

Totally agree a test fit prior isn’t a bad idea at all. Especially if it’s a reproduction bumper

My '68, Pontiac 350 non-A/C car has had a silver grill 400 bumper since at least 1976 when my dad bought it. I have always assumed my car had the wrong bumper, but I was unaware the '68 cars had black grills. Thanks for the information! Love the channel, good luck on you vynil top install!

Your videos give me confidence to tackle my own project. I have 67 LeMans in process. Question, I have seen several videos of using Rustoleum semi-gloss black in a spray gun with an added hardener for firewall/engine bay. Would you recommend this? Thanks!
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
Good deal. I had a 67 lemans really cool car they just look tough sitting still. I traded it for a 1969 Gto convertible that’s a fun story…. Anyway rustoleum with added hardener i haven’t tried it personally but my friend in Pennsylvania Luis has and I will say when I helped him Install his engine and transmission it was a very durable finish we bumped it a few times and it help Up well.

When doing restoration, how did you clean up all the fasteners and hardware for putting things together? The little bits and pieces that can't be sanded or sand blasted.
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
Small parts I used a media blasting cabinet with black beauty media. Now the small hardware that is visible and zinc, black oxide, or like cadmium plated I purchase a lot of it new as a kit from Ames performance. Relatively inexpensive.

Appreciate the video! How similar is this process to the 69's? Mine has always been off a bit from the body shop and it drives me nuts. Low on the driver's side and shifted to the passenger side a bit.
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
Sorta the same. The bumper bracket to subframe is identical. you can adjust the bumper assembly up and down in and out. Side to side is a little more tricky
@pontiacontap
@pontiacontap Год назад
@@VinylVillageGarage That somewhat confirms my understanding that the 69's have little to no left/right adjustment. I know my car was hit in the front end at some point in it's early life. Could account for some of the mis-alignment.
